It is amazing to think that last year our players were probably not vaccinated and did not miss a game while this year our fully vaccinated team is sending many into quarentine.  I guess this is an example of how contagious this Omicron mutation of Covid really is.  A lesson for us all to be careful.

Yes you are right, need to still be super careful. Last year most people were wearing masks indoors and for a while there weren’t even many gatherings indoors with friends and family. Aside from a few places that still required masking, so many people have been unmasked indoors the last several months with each other and with this variant that is super contagious apparently without masking it spreads so fast even with some vaccination. If people still mask up it will prevent the spread. Its almost like the beginning. This variant changed it all.
Just realized this is the butler thread. Sorry about continuing the covid talk.

It doesn’t seem to matter what we do, mask, don’t mask, stay away from crowds or not.Look at Florida vs NY it’s crazy. Their rules are less restrictive and their percentages are much better than ours. Go figure. All I know is that our first two BE games have been cancelled with no end in sight.

As tough as all these cancellations are for us longtime fans, imagine how tough they are for the kids themselves, in particular someone like Julian who came back to refine his game and show the scouts he is NBA ready. Hope for their sake powers that be are able to find a way to play most of the games with or without fans.

you are 1000% correct ncjohnnie, very tough for the fans but brutal on the kids. My son was miserable last season at McGill when the entire season and all practices were w cancelled. Since he has been very young Bball is his life and identity. The kids were devastated when no US schools came up to play in August / September of 2020 and 2021, that is their chance to shine , to be able to play against and beat a Division 1 school. They were dévastéd when  practices were stopped. Yes there are those who aspire to play pro but remember the vast majority of college players know they will never play pro but love the game, the comradeship, of being part of a varsity program and representing their school. They play for the love of the game and the fact that their college career, which is the very end of the line for most, has ended prematurely is very hard for them to accept.
hopefully this pandemic will end sooner than later.

for what it is worth, Florida has continued to lag NY in timing of spread in Covid cases.  Covid began in NY and then spread so right now Florida is lagging the NY spread number; however,. since the beginning Florida has had nearly 800,000 more cases than NY and based on population, 2,000 more case per population of of 100,000.  When NY's surge ends Florida's begins. Thus while things seem dire in NY now compared to Florida, best to wait and see what happens as historical numbers have shown--as they say "history repeats itself".  (info based on state and local health agencies.)
