(POSTPONED) Butler, Thur., Dec. 23, 6:30p, FS-1

With students done with finals on the 18th, there will be many less of them.

I like Paultz' take on the game, but am wondering who will step it up besides Posh to be a go to guy in this 2nd game without JC.  Having a week to prepare for no Julian is much different than a few hours.   If he can't play, let's see how they respond.

Looking for strong games from

1. Posh
 2.Wusu
3 Mathis

I have faith that Stanley, Pinzon, and even Smith can play important roles on this team

Soriano, Wheeler and Nyiwe still have to prove they can play productively vs. The big boys of the BE.

Iimportant to win this at home but not a season ender.    The key in the Big East is to win the games you should win.  At home vs. a weakened Butler team, we are supposed to win this.

If any of you guys going to pregame and game, let me know.

I will be very interested to see how Soriano looks against Butler's big Golden. I am more satisfied with Soriano than some. I expect him to be a solid two year contributor for us. He's already shown three good things for a big - soft touch from the line, shot blocking ability underneath and nice low post game. Needs to get tougher and doesn't have great hands but hopefully he improves on the former as season goes on.
To me he and Mathis have been only transfers in who haven't disappointed to date.

My wife wants to watch a couple of movies newly available on Netflix this week. I've strategically suggested tonight and Christmas Eve to leave open Thursday for the Butler game. I agree with Paultz that this is one we can and should win Champ or no Champ.

Home court is so big. Knew Nova is a tough place to play but was surprised to hear that they have only lost once there since Big East realignment - to Butler.

W Champ out I was thinking the same thing that Fuschia questioned. Maybe Wusu could play the 4 allowing us to play more of Smith, Pinzon, Coburn.

Only 7 D1 vs D1 games on a normally light Festivus schedule, with this game being the only one featuring two power conference teams. This is one of those standalone games that all the CBB diehards will be watching. Would be nice to see the team step up here.

I like Soriano too. He's by far the most skilled of our big men. Not the most athletic, but I believe he brings the most overall positives of our big men. He should be able to give us 15-20 solid MPG against most Big East teams. He's hurt by not having anyone around him, while he's on the floor, to take some of load off his shoulders.

Chatter that Soriano and Coburn are out.

Zach BSt. John’s won’t just be without its leading scorer in Thursday’s Big East opener.

Following Julian Champagnie’s positive COVID-19 test last Friday, two more unidentified Johnnies tested positive on Wednesday, sources told The Post. And so, St. John’s will have only eight scholarship players available against Butler unless Mike Anderson chooses to burn the redshirt of freshman forward Drissa Traore. That would give it a ninth player.

This makes this game all the more critical. Need to get this one, since who knows how many guys are going to be good to go next week. What a mess.

Zach B confirmed rumor

“St. John's will be without Joel Soriano and Tareq Coburn,”
