Based on the way SJU has been playing and at the arena where they never win this was a major win.

Missed the game live because of family here in Florida.  Just watched the DVR'd game as I followed the Game thread.  Really good effort tonight across the board.  As I stated in the Anderson thread, I still don't understand his reliance and faith in Wusu.  However, his use of Coburn tonight was big.  Wheeler, Posh, Mathis and Soriano had real good games too, and it's great to have Champ back, hopefully.

So a real good win on the road.  But anyone really believing this team has any chance for the NCAA tournament is a bit nuts.  The only way in is to win the BET, and this team gives me no reason to believe it has 3 or 4 successive wins in it over a like number of days.

Still, a nice win.  Can't wait for Friday.  Need to grab a home win and maybe get on a little roll.

Interesting couple of weeks coming up.  Should be the favorite in the next 4 games.  I'm wondering if they win 4 of the next 5 and win 2 games in the BE tournament would that be enough.

You would like to think so but we’ve put ourselves behind the 8 ball. I still think we might need to win the Big East Tournament. The good news is that if we keep playing as well as tonight we have a chance.
I don't think they'd have to win the BE tournament if they finish 4-1.  If that scenario happened they would have a 22-12 record, and added at least 3 more Q1 wins.  In that scenario they'd probably be anywhere from a 6th-8th seed.

The remaining games...

Butler - Q3
Creighton - Q2
@DePaul - Q2
Xavier - Q1
@Marq - Q1

If BE Tournament started today
Butler - Q3
Providence - Q1
Marq (most likely) - Q1
Villanova (most likely) - Q1

I think a 20-13 record should be on the right side of the bubble.

Coburn has such a smooth looking stroke you just wonder why he doesnt have more nights like tonight.

For potential reimbursement reasons since I have Stubhub bought tickets in limbo, I'm still trying to get official answer if December Marquette game is going to be officially canceled.

would stink for team if we went on a run,, got close and another potential W would help us but didn't get rescheduled.

Hoping for update from ticket office tomorrow.

Since Anderson gets his share of criticism, he does deserve some credit for getting the message across to Mathis re shot selection and knowing his limits:

Per @JohnniesTape
Montez Mathis shot 3 of 22 with 7 points combined against Georgetown, Butler, and Villanova. The last 2 games he has shot 10 of 14 with 24 points. Great to see him attacking the rim and improved shot selection.

Glad we won. Frustrating year. We are capable of this win and yet we lost to Pitt at home. Champ played like he should. Coburn played like we all expected. Mathis should only drive and never shoot 3s. Wusu floor iq is just up and down. Needs to limit his poor decision making. Glad posh is back, he was disruptive. Soriano has been solid.

hope we can build on this. Any at large chances are non existent so need to build for a run

I don’t agree at all. Anything but a BE championship and it’s the NIT at best. The lousy OOC schedule made sure of that. Last year they finished 4th in conference but again the OOC schedule kept them out of the dance. And I don’t believe that 7 teams from the Big East make the tourney at all.

Cragg and Anderson made a big mistake with the OOC schedule. You would think they would have learned from last year.

If you look at both teams schedules, I cant see a spot where they can get the game in.  And with a game at carnesseca not benefiting Marquette at all, they will be just fine not playing that game.

There's no way a team that wins 10 games in the BE this year and have 4-5 Q1 wins would be left out of the tournament.  There's teams like UNC on the bubble right now with much less than that.   And just about every major bracketologist has 7 BE teams in the field, so not sure where you're coming up with it couldn't be a 7 bid league, any expert  will tell you if season ended today it would be.

Also, people keep pointing to last year.  Last year was an anomaly with a shortened season and cancelled games.  And the Big East wasn't as strong last year, it was only a 3 at-large bid league.  You can't compare this season in the Big East to last season because it's night and day.

Agree...but if league wanted, I could see them playing on 3/7...2 days after their 3/5 game, 2 days before BET.

I just wish they'd make official decision so I don't get burned on $. (I paid a decent amount for three seatbacks....lol)

Discussion regarding whether St. John’s makes the NCAA tournament if it wins out the regular season  is meaningless if they don’t even Butler on Friday.

Agreed we played really well today but we have to carry the momentum over to the rest of the year. I think one more loss and we’re cooked barring a miracle in the BE tourny.

Half court defense very effective in second half. I also believe the pace of play on offense and the stronger half court defense tired the X men out down the stretch. Nice job boys. The productivity of Coburn and Mathis was very strong. Mathis open shot air ball from the corner was unwatchable!!!! Nice job coach!!!
