Just watched the game. Great first half. Not worried about 2nd half. Yes we were a little undisciplined and careless, but with the game out of reach, kids have a tendencies to take risks that they wouldn't in a closer game. Also, as others have said, CMA experimented with combinations. I see the rotation coming into focus. The top 8:
Champ
Posh
Mathis
Wheeler
Wusu
Coburn
Soriano
Smith

Next 3:
Stanley
Pinzon(apologies to those of you who had him pegged as Naismith award candidate)
Nyiwe

Of the top 8, Smith most likely to slip to bottom 3. Of bottom 3, Stanley most likely to move up to top 8.

Maybe coach goes with a 9 man rotation. We'll see. No way I see him going for a 10 or 11 man rotation. I still say we could have a problem, against better comp, getting points after Champ and Posh. I love Coburn's game and shot, need to see him do it against Indiana, etc before I anoint him the next Bootsy, who he reminds me of from outside. So far so good. I'm cautiously  optimistic, as I almost always am. .

Great post but as president of the Omar Fan club I gotta insist he’s part of the regular rotation. Whether that means he takes one of the top 8 guys spots or coach goes with 9 I’m not sure. In two games not only has he yet to take a poor shot, he hasn’t missed one. 10 for 10 and I’m a little surprised more guys aren’t talking about it.

Fwiw Once Roberts started getting minutes last year we went 9 deep for the most part. Went 9 deep his first year too.
I like Stanley too Amase, just need to see him do it against better comp before I move him up. Regardless, if he deserves the minutes he'll get them. Whether that's part of an 8 or 9 man rotation.

And don't worry, Bama - I was very nice about it. Besides they moved down a few rows so in the end they had even better seats than mine.

Also, one observation about this team is that many of its skill sets come in twos.  Here is a short list:

Wheeler / Stanley
Smith / Coburn
Mathis / Wusu
Soriano, Champ and Posh are all obviously one-offs tho I assume the hope is for Nyiwe to eventually be able to fill a similar role to Soriano.

Agreed on the guards but I think Stanley will do most of his work in the paint. Not sure Wheeler will be the dirty work guy in the BE.
I love Wheeler's length and athleticism on D. Not sure I'm a fan of his offense. I know he hit a couple of 3s yesterday, but I don't see that being his strength nor where we need him. Especially when he and Champ are on the court at the same time.

Great win. This team looks like it really enjoys playing together. Agree with the cautious optimism. If Coburn and Soriano can maintain close to this level of play when we get into the Big East schedule then we can challenge Villanova for the league title. Unfortunately we’ve seen guys in the past who light it up in the soft OOC games and fade once there’s a step up in competition. So while I’m loving what I’ve seen I’m not totally sold until we see them against high majors. Interested to see who steps up away at Indiana.

I like Coburn coming off the bench! It’s really nice to have a clear #1 scorer on the “2nd team.” In the post article Holloway mentioned something about how difficult it was that there wasn’t a big drop in talent when we subbed.

I also agree with a lot of what’s been said about Mathis. He’s really perfect for this team. He won’t be a star but he plays our type of defense and (so far) only seems to take shots in the flow of the game. We have enough guys who need the ball. Having someone who we can plug in to be a dog on defense, run the floor and not have to worry about “getting his touches” is exactly what the team needs. Also what I like about Wheeler and Stanley in the front court. Hard workers who seem to understand how they fit in without needing to run any sort of offense through them.

Good win. Nice to win by 20 and never really have to sweat against a mid major that isn’t complete trash. That’s what I was hoping for.

As I mentioned in my post to Amase, I see Wheeler thinking his game is more like Champ's. Obviously not at the same level. I trust CMA will utilize him based on CMA's assessment of his skill sets, not Wheeler's assessment, Nyiwe has high level athleticism. He runs the floor like a gazelle. Has great length too. But, and it's a big "but", I don't see him having any skills sets that will have him on the floor anything more than during garbage time.

To be clear, I’ve said from the day he signed with us I don’t want wheeler to be a three point shooter. I just don’t think he’ll be scoring in the post/paint the same way Stanley will. This is a nice way of saying I don’t imagine him scoring much once the season gets settled but I don’t think we necessarily need him to. Pick your spots selectively on open 3s and use your athleticism to be a threat near the rim.

Thanks. I'm just pissed off because I accidentally taped over one of my favorite Robyn Byrd episodes

Great analysis. Even yesterday Pinzon's playing time went down. Don't sleep on Smith though. He doesn't seem comfortable right now but he has played a lot of good teams over the years and been successful. There will definitely be games this season where he gets hot but right now Coburn looks like the better player. I definitely see Stanley getting some minutes. The better he plays the more minutes he gets and it probably would come at Wheelers expense but that could be later in the season.

I watched but wasn't paying enough attention. Who was our primarily ball handlers when Posh was out? That was a concern I had, and it might be tough of Pinzon is the only other one who can handle PG and he isn't ready for minutes yet.

Posh wasn't out that much. It seemed like Wusu at times in the second half.

Pinzon played some PG, but it seems like it may be "back-up PG by committee". The reality is that unless he's hurt, in foul trouble or the game is a blow out, Posh must be on the floor. Champ also. The drop off when those 2 are on the bench is huge. And they should never ever both be off the floor at the same time unless the game is no longer in doubt.

I'm definitely fine with Coburn coming off the bench. The one thing with the Knicks is that second unit with Rose. Coburn will definitely get time with the starters but when you start putting in the reserves Coburn's ability to score takes pressure off the other guys. Also think Stanley moves up in minutes eventually as of now he is looking like a real skilled player with potential

Attendance reported at 3,795.  No need for an enlarged arena.

Winning usually will inc attendance ,however school could give an incentive say 5 pts on your finals if you attended at least 3 games. LOL

attendance is a lagging indicator. Start real winning attendance will pick up dramatically. All starts with Indy

Agree completely
Attendance lagging indicator

up until the topsy turvy  years.   Carnesecca (alumni hall)  arena always has a very good crowd

I wouldn't draw any conclusion from yesterday's attendance.  I am sure there are plenty of guys like me that will be at every home conference game but not driving from Jersey (or wherever else) to see St. Peter's or Mississippi Valley State.

Lets face it, Carnesecca Arena is not a comfortable place to sit and watch a game. Can't tell you how annoying it is to have someone behind you knees in you back all night. and barley being able to fit in the seat you overpaid for. I've had season tickets for years and finally just said enough and just attend the MSG games. Not to say they are much better but a big improvement.
