We should have hired Pitino back in 92 with Calipari, donovan, and Jay Wright as assistants. When pitino left elevate Calipari, and hire danny Hurley as assistant. When cal left elevate jay wright. If jay left elevate billy donovan and if billy left elevate hurley. We would by now have 6 or 7 ncaa championships, plenty of sneaker money for recruits, enough hookers to use as freebies for students coming to games, and enough cash to buy indulgences for puritanical alumni.

We always miss opportunities.  /media/kunena/emoticons/smile.png

Quote...We have another option now.  It's time to use it, or at least leverage it to try and get a better deal out of MSG, although I don't know if that can be done.

We're playing Fordham quality basketball and we have leverage?  Have another hit.

Crowd was great today.  Probably 60-40 st johns and nearly all game outcheered uconn fans.

I met a grad student from sju who bought tix next to mine who said his dad is a big supporter of sju and was friends with Belson.  Nice guy

I am sorry, but playing a home conference game in front of a 60-40 crowd should not be acceptable.  I agree that St. John's fans were great today, but so were the UConn fans.  The strong "Let's Go Huskies" chant in the closing minutes was embarrassing.  It can't feel good for our guys and it's something a recruit should never witness.

If we have any self respect, next year we will move this game to UBS or CA.  We need to stop checking our pride at the door for money.  Move the game back to MSG when we're winning and can attract enough fans to flip the dynamic.

we lost $$ today,  only 6600 in attendance- believe we need 10k to break even

Attendance listed at 6,567 on espn.

I agree with a previous poster who mentioned, at 6,000 fans, we might as well play at CA.  We would make a little money and enjoy an actual home game.  We can return to MSG when we are able to put a better product on the court.

I am already shaking my head about this and now I have to read quotes from UConn players about how much they enjoyed the atmosphere at MSG today.  It's become pathetic.

I'll see you guys in Queens on Friday for a real home game.  One where our opponents won't be expressing thanks for the crowd in their postgame comments.

Essentially that means uconn bought 2500 tickets compared to 1000 sju tickets purchased. Considering we had about 600 students our fans came out poorly. (The balance are season ticket holders)

I know posters were very high on Wusu coming into the season, but imo this has not been a great year for him.  His stats from today's game look decent and many (including the TV announcers) have mentioned he had a strong first half.  Personally, I think we need an upgrade.  A guy of Wusu's ability should not be playing 30+ minutes, nor handling the ball with such frequency.   I hope he stays next year, but as more of a role player and less of a main cog.

As a side note, the Johnnies' 11-0 run came when Wusu went to the bench.

totally understand what you are saying but respectfully disagree. They aren’t put in a position to succeed.  How does Mathis Not get a cut to he basket last 6 minutes how do we not have more than one really good look last 7 Minutes
We had good looks. We missed a lot of shots.
The last 6 minutes ? They didn’t serve beer then so I definitely was in my seat and I saw a lot of motionless offense

I think game time is TV directed.
In the case of today, and the Georgetown game (which was at 4:30 because of football playoffs) yes, but a lot of times when our schedule comes out, you look at the MSG dates, and they usually correspond with a Knicks or Rangers game already scheduled for that evening.  MSG probably thinks that is the easiest way to schedule us.

We're now 0-4 this year and 4-8 in the Mike Anderson era at MSG. I get how MSG plays into the 'We Are New York's Team' thing but at what point do we cut down on our MSG games? Do recruits actually care about it? If so, why do we never get high 4 or 5 star NYC kids ever anymore? It seems like the opponents and their fanbases care more about the MSG games than we do. I'm not sure about the economics of it but it's gotta be a steady money losing proposition for the school, especially since we haven't been good in 20+ years.

We've lost more games at MSG this season than we did at home all of last season when all our games were at CA.

I for one am sick of peaking early when we've been good and flaming out in tournament, so at least this season is sparing me that.

I'll continue to hope Posh gets back and Pinzon's heart is OK, and we somehow string some games together in the BET despite too frequent less than stellar coaching.

I’d like to see the +\- for the full game. I noticed the uconn run came with him on the bench in the first half. But did also point out the 11-0 run in our favor with him out in the 2nd. But that also included Soriano on the bench who if you ask me was the much greater culprit to our issues yesterday.

Completely agree we need to upgrade the roster, but IMO he is far from the bottom. If 10,4,4 were easy there would be more than 5 guys in the BE doing it.

With Wusu, it is a matter of playing within himself and not go outside the box.  With Posh benched with the injury, he probably has ot do more than he should have to.  He will continue to develop and hopefully eliminate the sloppy ball handling at times and the rash drives to the basket.  All in all, he beings tough ness and is probably best suited as an energy and defense guy off the bench, with a deeper rotation.

Damn is that what the issue has been? If so I hope the kid can play again.

People keep referencing our poor record at MSG in recent years, well it should come as no surprise. And it has nothing to do with home court advantage.

To put it simply, we haven't had a good team in recent years, and typically play teams who are better than us at MSG. So the record is to be expected.

I think you make a very good point but there is no question of the validity of home court advantage in basketball.

The simple reality is that even with several thousand season tickets, visiting teams with a strong local presence buy more single game tickets than our followers do, eroding our home court advantage.

I also think our coach isn’t a huge fan of playing at MSG from what I hear.

When Lavin was coach the team practiced there all the time and he really emphasized  MSG- he fixed the locker room to have Johnnies branding and he held an open practice.   As of right now, I’m not sure if it even feels like a home court for the players

Unless we have a top 25ish team,
we're not going to draw much more than opposing teams at MSG. Especially Nova and UCONN, since they  are in relatively close proximity and their fans travel well.  Leaving the crowd at somewhere around 50/50. All the marketing in the world wont
change that, only winning will.

When Billy Singleton graduated I figured his record of getting his shot blocked would never be broken. Then a few short years later Anthony Glover broke it. In fairness Glover played one more year. Thought that record was as safe as Cy Young’s most wins in a career. But in just under 2 seasons Wusu has broken the record. Much like Cy Young the record for most shots getting blocked should be called the Wusu. If stays 4 years record will be untouchable

Bingo. I know we all remember being at games at a packed MSG, with the majority being our fans, and the atmosphere was electric. Sure, it was a long time ago. But as it's been discussed on here, having a winning team brings out the college basketball fans to the Garden who maybe aren't St. John's fans, but pull for us when we have a good team.
