(POST-GAME) Marquette, Tues. Jan. 1, 7pm, FS1 / 970AM

Great to be at the game tonight. Wonderful crowd. Complete effort. Really good balance. Nice to see Keita on the court contributing. Nothing to complain about at all. Oh, one of the Hausers gets away with traveling on almost every play. This team should be 14 - 0!!
How many minutes did Keita play and how did he look?
A bit rusty as expected. But hustled and very engaged even when out of the game.Watching warmups, he definitely has skills.
In the last 2 games the defence has been fantastic on the 2 best scorers in the BE not named Ponds. Got to give the staff credit for that.
Absolutely! And posting Howard was extremely smart.

simon started slowly this year but is finding his role and is a great team player.

How do you watch that game and this is your takeaway. We just did a great job on one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

And Markus Howard has been the talk of the college basketball world the last few weeks. 2-15 and maybe got 3 clean looks all night
I don’t why I was just thinking about that but that video was gold

I'm sure I probably said it last time but this video is the funniest thing ever posted on redmen.com

Watching it again I'm literally crying with tears rolling down my face dripping off me from laughing so hard. I cant get through the whole thing at once because I cant breath from laughing so much

Ah, you’re just saying that now after this fabulous and dominating win! If God forbid, they had stumbled, you would’ve delayed that retirement, right?!?
Lol.
Congrats Ray, enjoy your golden years that coincided with St. John’s back in the national basketball conversation!
You wouldn't believe how many people told me it's foolish to retire. The line I hear most is" "Won't you be bored?" Nothing could have been more boring than work. Now I won't have an excuse not to watch our guys live in the dance.
I’m smiling from ear-to-ear. Your enthusiasm will get my butt from my retired abode in Hawaii to the BET for sure!

Great team defense on Howard. He is deadly when open open. Anyone downplaying Marquette is downgrading the quality of this win. We beat the best team in the conference. They played 4 teams that are nationally ranked and went 2-2. This was our best game of the season.

Honestly, what planet are you living on? The defense was remarkably improved tonight, and it showed often.

GREAT WIN!
Kudos to coach Mitch Richmond - whom was specially noted by Len Elmore, that Richmond was working with Marvin Clark on his shooting... it's paid off.
He's got an absolutely beautiful shot.
And kudos to Len Elmore for not only being one of the best color men around, but for singing our praises over the last 2 games that he’s called. He almost comes across as a homer, that’s how much he likes our team.
St. John’s played an excellent game tonight and didn’t let up, but Marquette is a bad defensive team
Lol no they aren’t. Before this game they were ranked in the top 25 for defense and that’s with games against Wisconsin, K-State, Kansas and Indiana.

Hilarious! Love the OTIS references " I take that back, OTIS is never right". LOL!

Just got back from the Arena a little while ago. A highly enjoyable and dominating win. Carnesecca was packed and the crowd was rocking.

The defense against Marquette's two leading scorers Markus Howard and Sam Hauser was truly outstanding. Simon really locked down on Howard and Hauser was pretty much a non-factor. Combined they shot 5 for 23, including 1 for 10 inside the arc. Combined they scored 18 total points 21.7 points below their average.

All five of the starters played very well. Heron has really upped his game recently and was a factor offensively and defensively. Clark had a great all around game and scored 22. Figueroa always is a factor on both ends of the floor and Ponds was fantastic (except for missing four free throws).and dominated the action in the first half with 20 points by intermission.

The highlight moment of the night was a monster dunk by Heron followed by John McEnroe and Mustapha exchanging a slapping five right after the play.

On a side note, although some have posted otherwise, I think Trimble is a valuable contributor to the rotation. He does not turn the ball over, defends well and stays within the flow of the game. Typically when he comes in the team does not suffer.during his time on the court. He may never be a star but he contributes in a positive way. Every team needs role players who understand their role and can execute it.

Also it was nice to see Keita back. It will probably take him a little bit of time to get into playing shape but I am sure he will be needed more at some point relatively soon.

The only red flag of the evening was Ponds experiencing pain in his leg near the end of the game. He seemed uncomfortable sitting on the bench with him holding his right leg in a stiff straightened position. Then after the final buzzer he was clearly limping while walking. Hopefully it isn't anything serious.

From what I see, MR is much more involved and animated on the sidelines

He was fine when he was taken out of the game. I think his leg cramped from dehydration. I hope.

Can’t summarize any more concisely nor aptly!

Great game and great medicine for StJ fans. My lasting memory of the game and Coach Carnesecca was his fist pump in support of the Johnnies on National TV with 20 seconds to go in the first half. I met the man first in 1959 and have hundreds of personal memories of him but this gesture of enthusiastic support in a very emotionally needed win night will be on top of my favorites.
Can someone who is smart at those things get that clip of the "pump" and reproduce it here. Those that missed the moment will be touched . He still breathes St, John's.

Now, if he accompanied Matt on some recruiting trips he would get my vote.

Fantastic effort and game from all indications. I didn’t see it but kept up with scores. A win over a top 16 team is big. Need to hold that line and continue effort on the road for next 2. Time for a Saturday smackdown vs Georgetown. They are young and not real good just yet. Young guys have talent but can be rattled. Keep Govan away from the inside. He’s mostly a perimeter guy anyway. Good to have Keita back to get some minutes and fouls. He will help more and more each game. Time to close this series out 3-1. We should already be 2-0...

Agreed. We made their D look bad because we are so much quicker than them
