(POST-GAME) Marquette, Sat., Jan. 16, 12 NOON, FS1 / 570 AM WMCA

Lots of BE teams could get 3-4 possessions out of 20 seconds. You shoot, you miss, you foul immediately, rinse and repeat. We see it every week. No excuse for what happened this afternoon.

Today's REFEREES-Jeffrey Anderson,Mike Stephens,John Gaffney

Some things can be fixed with better execution and better effort. Other things, like having rebounding woes, will require bigger and stronger players.  Maybe it's just a fan's persepctive,  but it does seem like 90% of contested rebounds go to the other team.

Cole has been a big disappointment ,he should not start .did not see the game today so do not know if he started or not, just mo he is one dimentional

He did not start but played way too much.  He was atrocious.  I said the first game of the year that he was a one trick pony.  What  I didn't know at the time was that he would not perform his one trick well.  33 percent from behind the arc.

What did he say?

When he came down hard on his hip / back, i was surprised not to see any trainer attention and trip to back rooms.

It was like a body slam on the wood floor.

Playing the rest of the game seemed irresponsible to me, no matter what he may have told coach.

At his size , if Posh could develop the famous Hardaway Cross Over dribble , he could get his shot off in the key , instead of always going to the hoop .  His handle is pretty much right hand dominant and could work on getting the left hand stronger .  I'm sure the Coaches are looking at ways to develop him further . Making him more valuable than he is already .

This team just finds new and creative ways to lose games.  It's a unique ability at this point.  I mean just this season, we have:

1. The "hold for one when you're down 2" loss (Marquette)
2. The "get annihilated when the other team's best player doesn't even play" loss (Creighton)
3. The "opponent plays their worst game in 5 years and you still lose" loss (Xavier)
4. The "gifted overtime against worst team in conference and then still lose in overtime" loss (Gtown)
5. The "get beat by one guy when the rest of the opponent plays like utter dog crap" loss (Hall)

Watch we'll hold UConn to 45 points tomorrow and somehow score 43.

I was happy with MA as our new coach. Now, after watching every game for the last 2 seasons, I've come to believe that I was wrong. The only thing he seems to coach is the trap defense and he has not recruited well. A few observations:
- There is no half court defense. They switch too quickly, which often leaves a mismatch underneath or a wide open three.
- There is no half court offensive scheme, no set plays, no pick and roles, no back door plays.
- There are no coherent inbound plays.
- There no special plays after time outs.
- The wrong people seem to have the ball in their hands at the wrong times (the last play of this game for example).
- Nothing has really changed from the first game of last year until now.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see this ending well.
I hear you. But realistically, a lot of these things would look a lot better if we had talent here. It was always going to take a few years to upgrade the talent and for CMA to bring his guys in. Unfortunately, the holdovers from the Mullin era are not star quality talent, because otherwise we'd be in much better shape right now.

I find it hard to believe we do not have an end of game play that we have repeatedly practiced.
I don't know why we have so much difficulty inbounding the ball from the end line.
I wonder why it is so hard to box out,  a skill a non player can be taught.

All good questions and IMO, the only one that can be answered is the box out. It is much more difficult to do when you are constantly switching and scrambling. One of the reasons I don't like the defensive approach. We have one player who fights over picks, Alexander.
The other questions are mysteries to me.
