Of our last 6 possessions from the 3:00 + mark, 5 were horrendous:
1) Dunn drove the middle, appeared to be open in front of the basket but passed diagonally right to a Marquette player, they scored to go up 3
2) Champagnie hit a 3 to tie at 69
3) Dunn took it upon himself, got a layup blocked
4) Williams took a early contested step back 3 from the corner
5) Champagnie took a one footed awkward shot from the side
6) The time out last play debacle

Hard to understand why if the last play was a designed Williams / Champagnie pick and roll, the ball was just not inbounded to Williams
One of the things that got him fired from Arkansas was a reputation for poor late-game offense.

In a year and a half here, I can see what they were talking about.

We shot 9-14 fr FT. Line.
After a great start at the line this year, we've gone south (only 11-17 in the Butler game too, but they were worse).

Sadly, it's probably a regression to the mean.  Our percentage was great through the first 10 or so games, but in truth, we were probably never that good from the line.

In fairness, my son pointed out that I missed the nice Williams to Alexander exchange in that mix; so 5 out of 7 is the real stat.

Several positives: Posh played with a lot of heart, Champ really turned it around in the second half, Roberts may have played his best game as a Johnnie, our defense was much better in the second half

But, that last offensive posession was .................. offensive!!!

1.  No issues with the team's willingness to compete.

2.  Good halftime adjustment by Anderson to get more looks in the paint, fewer bad 3s, get Champagnie going, and improve the pressure D.

3.  I thought the D was much improved, due largely to Roberts defensive presence in the post.

4.  The team continues to play too much low-IQ basketball.  Unnecessary 3s, failure to stop the ball, bad passes, silly turnovers.  That's what cost them this game and at least 2 others.  The end-of-game execution would be included in that.

With another year in the system and improvement at the point and in the post, I think Anderson can get this team to the middle of the Big East. To get beyond that it will need an infusion of talent because the limitation of the system (or the coach) is execution in the half court, especially against a zone or in late-game situations.

That was my primary concern with Anderson from the beginning. For whatever reason run-n-gun teams often have trouble executing in the half court (maybe personnel, maybe habits, maybe it's just too hard to change gears).  But I figure there's time to worry about that once we get to the middle of the pack, which I think we will depending on what craziness happens in the off-season.

That kid on Marquette made some tough shot to win it. How many shots rimmed in and out for us in the first half? 4?

why can we ever get a bounce???? Why????

We came back in the second half by attacking the basket yet, in the last few minutes, we reverted back to the same offensive style that we played in the first half that wasn't successful.

Hard to understand the thinking here.

That one hurts more than any other. Felt like one we should steal. I can't tell you how much I disagree with our decision to hold the ball for the last shot when we were down 2. 25 second is an eternity. Get a good  look quick and then stretch the game out if need be.
Disappointed not because this was a game that could be stolen. But, because I actually thought we were every bit as good as them. We exposed fact that they have no one, outside of Carton, who can handle the ball.

+1000% agree on last possession as it was deja vu from last year. Thought our spacing on the last possession sucked. I know that Dunn has had a few last possession breakdowns, but I would have liked his chances on taking Theo John. He didn't need a screen. He should have taken a drive early in clock.

That said, I was actually encouraged by a few things today. We showed toughness today. Both Wusu and Posh didn't back down that John (who is a jerk).

Cole, who I have supported, made critically bad decisions and had his usual lazy, telegraphed intercepted pass. I would tell him that he will sit for 10 minutes for every lazy pass he makes.

Posh had a horrible 1st half but is tough as nails and I love this kid. Anyone who doesn't think this kid is the real deal is using a very unfair measuring stick.

One final note (and i kid here), CMA (who I support) should be impeached for ever playing Toto over Roberts.

All in all, reading the posts and following at the end on my phone, glad I had to miss this one today, but very happy to hear Roberts had a second outstanding game in a row. That is big going forward this year and next.

You were better off missing the game - saved yourself a lot of heartache

Mike Anderson said the last play was supposed to be a screen and roll between Champagnie and Greg. But they didn't execute. Said Marquette took it away, but ball could've gotten there.
So odd. How does that happen

Everytime we ran bad offense at the end of games last year, Anderson said it wasn't what was drawn up.  So either the players are not getting the messages in the huddle, or he's covering his own butt for bad playcalling.

Honestly, I'm not sure which one I'm hoping it is at this point.
On RedStorm Report Mike is kind of a low talker. . .hopefully, the team hears him during time outs and aren't just nodding LOL

Glutton for punishment, I know...but i watched this play 5 times. Really sad how little movement there was w/ 20 seconds left.  Inexcusable.

Watch it a few times, and it becomes had to give Anderson pass as coach.  Think we'll be lucky to beat DePaul as our last W of season.

Unless major turnover in our favor,  i just don't see much to be excited about next year.

No excuse but a game that we undoubtedly win with a crowd. Marquette struggled with our pressure. Would have been multiplied by 10 with SJU's whitewalkers in the house. Again, no excuse just an observation on the impact of the pandemic.

Don't have to wait. Get a shot off and if missed foul them. Haven't we've seen in the past season with Dunn holding the ball for the last shot.

Cole plays too slow and Dunn too fast!

Disappointing loss, we played well especially Champ, Roberts, Williams and Posh. Got little from Cole and Dunn.

We getting better, this was a tough one.

At least Dunnmade all of his foul shots - 5 for 5.
