(POST GAME) Creighton, Wed., Feb. 23, 6:30p, FS-1

Insanely disappointing and I won’t regurgitate the obvious reasons.  I will take away some incredibly bright spots in Stanley, nywie and pinzon.  Nothing really else to say.

Positives were great minutes by each of Stanley, Smith and Mathis and good productivity from Nyiewe and Pinzon in his very limited minutes, but great to see him back and healthy. Would have liked to see Stanley get more minutes in the second half. The love affair with Wusu must stop.
Coburn, Wheeler and Champ did us in.
Still scratching my head as to how we can lead by 7 at the half their pg who had 7 assists in the first half breaks his arm and we lose. It just makes no sense.

Coburn played 5 minutes so hardly merits mention with Wheeler and Penny. When you say love affair must stop with Wusu are you referring to CMA or Amase?

McD's strategy was to keep his defenders on Champagnie and Wheeler and let the rest of the team play. He figured that they were the two biggest threats and it worked. That said, the rest of the team played extremely well. One question: Where was Stanley in the last couple of minutes?

Bottom line is you are at home in a must win situation and the opposing team loses its starting PG with about 13 minutes left you have to find a way to win that game.

Champagnie and Wheeler had their share of good looks.  They clanked shots with decent room.

Thought Wheeler had good looks from outside unfortunately just couldn't make them tonight. As for his forays to the hoop they were contested and he comes up a bit short in being able to finish those. Penny started out cold then poor shot selection and doing a lot of leaning on his shot. Towards end of game shied away from shooting and wanting the ball.

They were forcing up bad shots because of the defense, IMHO.

Oye.   Damn.   Oye.

Game is another microcosm of season.  We’ve gotten very few things break our way all year.

if only ONE of the following things happen, we probably win:

Soriano plays and maybe makes their big guy miss a few of the bunnies he made or denied him the ball

We get a decent game out of Champ

We get a decent game out of Wheeler

We shoot more than 56 percent from the line.

Champ  makes a few of the bunnies or short jumpers he missed

Just  one of those.

The team this year is an inch short in several areas hence the close losses and missed opportunities.

Tonight, a few bright spots: Smith.  Mathis.  Pinzon return.   Nywie with some good moments. Omar.   Just can’t put it all together.

Frustrating.

I hope we don’t hear Anderson say the team is finally getting to jell. This scenario started with the Indiana game and has continued thru the Pitt, Conn, SH, Nova, Conn and tonight Creighton. A game that can go either way in the final couple of minutes and SJU has no one to make a play and doesn’t seem to have an answer.

Agreed 1000% Fordham!! You have to find a way to win this game under those circumstances. Forget about us doing anything in the Big East Tournament, our star player doesn’t show up in big spots, so as far as him providing us with some type of Kemba Walker moment, I think we can put that idea to rest.

I don’t know how anyone can say that this season has been remotely successful  as the Johnnies have still not beat a team in the Big East with a 500 or better record.

Bad home loss after being up 7 at the half. The team always looks good in blowout wins but if it’s close and coaching/strategy is needed…… ??????
Creating your own fallacies to argue against again, huh?  Who said anything about the season being successful?

I thought you were done "posting for awhile...."
Maybe you should keep up with the postings as many posters argued with me when I stated the season has been a disappointment. In terms of not posting, I did take a few days off. In terms of your posting, perhaps you should.

How many posters stated this season is a success?  I'll wait.

You took maybe three days off.  That's not staying away for "awhile."  Maybe you should learn to be true to your word and learn the meaning of words while you're at it.

I'd run laps around you, Mr. Fallacious.

I think the UCONN away game was the biggie, of that bunch.

Julian made the big shot in that game, and we still found a way to lose it.

Ever since then, I really believe the losing has become ingrained in this team.  In a close game now, it's just a question of how.

St. John's is 3-11 in Quad 1/2 games. It has blown so many chances in the final minutes of close games. That's the season in a nutshell, an inability to get in done in crunch time.

See you in the Big East Tournament because the rest of the games do not mean anything.

That is the only thing left to salvage the season.
