(POST GAME) Creighton, Wed., Feb. 23, 6:30p, FS-1

A lot of good stuff from QueensBoy. I want to second the Pinzon point in particular. I know he was only in for a few minutes but he is a very talented kid and it shows out. His on the ball defense from baseline to baseline was great, he handled the ball well directing the offense and his shot looks good.

I hope he gets even more minutes against DePaul.

Yeah that is the biggest downside for him having a disappointing season this year is it now puts enormous pressure on him next year.  If he had a good season this year and then had a bit of a fall off next year he could survive that but now next year becomes huge and we'll see how the roster shakes out but right now on paper with Champ gone not sure how we can assume they will be better.

Well, Mike has his work cut out for him next season and hopefully he retains key returnees and adds a few quality pieces.  I assume an experienced guy like CMA has to realize his performance this year merits and requires self examination. Items like game management, especially at crunch time, balanced player rotations to ensure some offensive productivity, staying with guys who may be struggling but fit his blue collar mind set too long (while penalizing others), all seem fair game. This was the year staff expected the team to contend in top tier of BE and dance for sure. Obviously they are disappointed and hopefully learn from this underachieving season.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if they can add a few quality pieces and retain those kids we all see as solid and exceed this year’s outcome? Of course that may not happen, but it is time for this staff to overachieve next year when probably slotted as a lower tier team in pre season prognostications. Solid coaches find a way to do that, just look at the Creighton and PC this year. Anderson seems a proud, competitive guy, so let’s see what he can accomplish next year. If we remain irrelevant re NCAA T participation next season, it seems fair to doubt MA can get it done here.

I agree with the Pinzon posts. It took about 30 seconds of him being involved after a 2.5 month layoff to see he is of course a bit raw but potentially on a completely different level than 80% of his teammates.  Raftery knew it too.  Kid needs to play as much as possible.

He's easily the best ball handler we have, and he brings much needed size to the guard position.

I would like to see more of him, but his stamina may not be fully there right now.  I get the impression that, with a healthy Soriano, he might not have played at all last night.

SEASON NOT LOST IF WE WIN 4 OF LAST 5....WIN 2 BE TOURNAMENT GAMES...PER ZACH...NEXT YEAR= SCHEDULE SOME REAL SCHOOLS=AT IONA;AT RUTGERS..CHAMP NOT NBA READY; POSH MUST RETURN..

After Nembhard went out with wrist injury, we needed to win the next 4 minutes to sap creightons fight. we just have no killers on this team.

also, I think Wusu is great on D, same with Mathis but ill advised shots should always be called out. Defender left Mathis wide open daring him to make a shot. failed once. We all did that on the playground knowing someone can't shoot and it's a good chance of a rebound.

Nembhard was really struggling last night.  Creighton actually played better after he left the game.  Typical Johnnies back luck.

Slow rotation no one blocked him out

Agree this team often doesn't box out. That put back wasn't just lack of boxing out. He was all alone under the basket with no one within 5 feet of him.

That's been a problem this season. Part of it is the constant switching.  We end up with 2 guards down low.  Guards don't have the instincts of big men to put a body on a guy. I know some posters believe Wusu can play the 3 or the 4,  but despite the similar bulk, Charles Barkley he is not.  Which is not a knock, since only a handful of players were in Barkley's league  Then there are the double teams that leave the defense out of position.  But that's not what lost the game. Some horrendous shooting by our most reliable scorers did us in.

The board had 25 pages of comments after the UConn loss.  We're only at 14 for this one.  Not good....fan lethargy is a program's kryptonite.

Wow…Champaigne had the ball, on the elbow, one-on-one, down 1, last possession and PASSED??

Guinness out here "live tweeting" the game the day after the game.  Classic!  But pretty damn accurate observations.  /media/kunena/emoticons/cheerful.png
Haha, I was at a buddy’s house last night and didn’t see a second of the game. I’m on vacation this week and they were re-showing it so I figured, why not? I had nothing else better to do. Still don’t get not playing Stanley or Smith the last 8 minutes.
