He wasn't hyped as a shooter. That first game was a surprise, and probably a fluke.

That being said, I think he's a scorer who will be able to make occasional outside shots.
He most definitely was hyped as a shooter.

What was the reason why we left their guys open?

Team just not ready to play tonight; one can talk lineups and bad shots, and both are very valid but there was not one aspect of the game we played well. Defense provided no spark, we consistently got beat to loose balls, every time we got close we broke down on either end of the court. Examples, we tied the game, I believe at 43, and instead of cranking up the intensity and gaining momentum, Williams loses his man cutting after he passed that led to a 3 point play, then got beat easy off the dribble and poof, we were back down 5. We got to 4 late with time and Champagnie gives up a offensive rebound on a missed foul shot, just getting out hustled, plain and simple.
Not sure why, maybe a hangover from last nights collapse, but other than Champagnie scoring the ball, no one played a good game. Neither did Anderson have a very good game so all in all a collective loss IMO.
I don't know. I'll go back to we shot 19 percent from three...they shot 55 percent...and we still lost by only two possessions. Everything else apparently went right.
BYU shot 37% from 3 for the game, 55% in the second half. I don't recall them shooting a contested 3 in the second half. As for St. John's, they were the model of consistency from 3. About 20% both halves. BYU will end up one of the top 3 point shooting team in the country. We won't. Yet we only took 6 less 3 pointers than BYU.

After going 6 for 7 from 3 in the first game, Cole is either 0 or 1 for 14. He is much better than that. He can score off mid range turnarounds, and needs to not force the 3. What he hasn't shown yet is much athleticism. I have no idea if that is part of Cole's game.

If you think everything went right other than shooting % we watched different games. If we both took the exact same shots in the exact same rhythm of the game I would agree, but we didn’t. They took good shots, we took poor ones mostly because we played poorly.
5 three attempts by Moore won’t make Paul happy or CMA either

Team - 21 attempts from 3, made 4. BYU must have loved that.
Watching quite a number of Moore's games last season and reviewing his stats if I remember correctly Moore only took 1 or 2 three pointers per game sometimes none. Very surprised he took 5 today. Hopefully he wasn't a more disciplined player at the JUCO level than he is playing for CMA. I guess will shall see in the succeeding games.

Cole’s body language needs some work

We really missed Dunn tonight

Why can’t we box out on free throws?

Why do we miss so many layups?

SJU and BYU are two teams with completely different styles of play. They rely on their three point shooting and SJU relies on its pressure defense and running. Tonight they had us play their style of play and not surprisingly they won the game.

He most definitely was hyped as a shooter.
only 4 games. You want to bet an over under on 3 point percentage starting next game till end of season ? 33% is that fair ?

Every single game we play is winnable, and every single game is losable. We'll win some games we should lose, and we'll lose some games we should win. We were 2 pt dogs tonight, so if you put any credence in that type of thing, we were supposed to lose in a close game. And that's exactly what happened. It's not like we were ahead and blew the game, so I'm not gonna lose sleep over this one. BYU actually seemed in control the entire game. I was hoping for a late run, but that never really materialized. As others have said, we are going to have a lot of problem with teams who dictate tempo, as BYU did. We are not a very good half court offensive team, and we have no low post presence whatsoever. For as great as Posh has been, and in spite of all of the comparisons that have been made, he has a ways to go before he can run a half court offense the way, say, an Erick Barkley could. I expect he'll get there, but it will take time. I'll continue to be patient, and try to enjoy this rollercoaster ride of a season as much as possible.

I didn't get a chance to read all of the comments but the team looked flat today compared to Monday. We rebounded poorly and didn't get to the line at the rate we had in some of the earlier games. On to the next one.
Really no pros here other than Greg and Champ looking good. I knew we would have big trouble with their size. Our guards did not want to drive on 7 footers. When they did they got swatted as expected. BYU shot lights out 2nd half. Seemed like they shot 80% that half. They're simply too skilled for us offensively. They got back very quickly in fast breaks and after their makes. Barcello is the only player that will take over, but we kept giving him nonstop open looks. I also figured BYU wouldn't lose 2 straight. They're a good program. Bad matchup. Could not get inside on them and could not get enough transition scoring. Ball game right there.
Mike - good point about them getting back on D. That was important.

Disappointed in the team’s performance and the coaching. Both need to improve.

The turning point of the game took place in the first half. We were ahead and, with about 13 minutes left, CMA substituted (as Sly Fox noted) and we had 5 subs on the floor. BYU then went on a 12-0 run to take a 9 point lead and never looked back. I love CMA but we should never have had that group playing together.

We are not a good 3 point shooting team. Half of our first 18 shots were 3 point attempts. Unless you have an open look, nobody on this team (with a couple of possible exceptions) should have a green light to hoist them up. The backboards are still shaking from the bricks laid by Moore and Earlington. They both have decent mid range games but are not dependable long range shooters. As someone stated before, these guys have to know (or be told) what their role is and be held accountable for playing within those parameters.

After 4 games, I have seen enough to say that I really like the way Champ, Williams, Posh and Cole play (although the last two guys didn't play well tonight). Wusu looks like he will be a good contributor. I would like to see more of Roberts and less of Toro. Caraher just looks totally lost on the court thus far.

When you integrate six new scholarship players on a team (half the roster), there are going to be ups and downs, especially early in the season. I'm very disappointed because I wasn't impressed by BYU and I truly believe that this was a winnable game. For a team with post season ambitions, every win matters. We can't afford to squander these opportunities.

It's rare to have a freshman guard who is more advanced at defense than offense. That's what Posh is. Barkley was so comfortable running an offense. He had so much on court maturity as a freshman.

Posh is the linchpin of CMA's pressure defense. He will have off nights on offense, but he doesn't seem to let it affect his tenacity on defense. I agree that he needs more experience running a team's half court offense. Likewise, he doesn't have the kind of skilled players on offense Barkley had around him. Since Monte mentioned Barkley, I had to go and torture myself and watch the last 30 seconds of the elite 8 game. I wondered how the ref missed the hard bump by Scoonie Penn. Then I saw that 1 referee had his view of the bump blocked by the screener, who was Artest. So now I don't feel so bad about tonight's loss.
