I'd just like to know why Dunn is ever, let alone always, given the ball in crunch time.  Champagnie's the best shooter, has the best hands, and is 6'7.  Inbound to him.

Because Dunn is the only guy who can create his own shot. I love Champagnie and he is a terrific player.  But creating off the dribble (other than his step back) is not his forte.  Wusu can get to the rim and is becoming another option.  I had hoped Greg could be that guy but right now he's not.

Tough loss for the Johnnie's. I think Posh had 4 fouls? That limited him in OT. The refs called several offensive fouls that I questioned. They need to let players drive to the basket.

Coach Anderson has to fix the holes in the half court game. Butler showed everyone how to exploit them.

The Johnnie's 6 game winning streak is broken. Maybe that'll take some pressure off the team. I still expect at least three more wins. That should get them into the Tournament.

I'm glad the team has a week off to rest and regroup. Come back strong to finish out the season. Go Johnnie's.

As for the inbound play at the end of regulation, I presume Dunn was the first guy to get open.   Champagnie is clearly the best free throw shooter on the team, but he is not the guy you want dribbling out of the press.  Dunn could have and perhaps should have caught the pass, but it was low and even if he had caught it, he was in a bad position.  As others have said, we wouldn't have been in position to win the game had it not been file some clutch shots by Dunn.  I'm not sure why he is so maligned.

Fix the holes in the half court offense????

There is no half court offense! Remind me of a half court set that got Champagnie an open look. These guys are on an island playing street ball in the half court

It was funny today. As a St. John's fan I was starting to feel myself. I was confident going in to tonight.  Then the only people who actually know anything brought be back to reality...oddsmakers. I went in thinking we should roll Butler but then seeing we were a +1.5 dog really put me right.

I think CMA has done a heck of a job this year.  That said, why not have Williams and Roberts in the game at the end of regulation?  Put Williams on Thompson and have Roberts in the game as a rim protector.  Outside of Posh, Williams is our best on ball defender and he's at least three or four inches taller.

Take away whistle and a few missed shots.....Team collapsed. Anderson did not adjust well and guys were not on same page.

Coach gets the L tonight.

Team is just not there yet..  Confident teams win these games.

Everytime we get a big lead, they always collapse, you gotta adjust after the other team adjusts.

Brutal loss. I’m sure it’s all been said in this thread. And like a lot on this board, I did not have a good night’s sleep. Brutal.

Just goes to show you that we can't not win big games without a rim protector.Roberts is really not one. This probably will not be addressed until next yr Game should have been one but let's but some of the blame on coach  and all on the players
going dancing is slipping away

Agree completely    brutal loss
up 2 with 8 seconds left with the ball.    It came down to that but we have no inside presence

Needed the game to keep the momentum going

Funny how naysayers come out of the woodwork.  This was a tough loss no doubt.  Plenty of opprtunites, and loss of a big lead.    But, we have bad history in that arena and we were due for a loss, espcially on the road.  The lack of a defense and rebound minded big was again a fatal flaw, so hopefully in the future, coach finds an answer to this long-running problem.

The next gane is key as we will see if we have bounce back.  Don't necessarily need to win to recreate the buzz/mojo, but need a good performance.  NCAA may be hard frm this pioint on, but NIT would have benn a good goal at the begining of year, and is so now.

Very tough loss. Oddsmakers clearly a lot smarter than me lol. Lots of things to point to but allowing easy ball penetration and offensive rebound after offensive rebound is what beat us imho.
Still love this team. We have 5 left, 4 at home. Need to go 3-2 and we'll be in the picture to dance. Would have taken that at start of year and  I will take it now. Kids have a lot of heart but a number of them picked the same game to be  a little off. It happens.

Great run and win streak has turned our season around. Never have a good feeling going into Hinkle, regardless of how good or bad Butler is. Im happy with the win streak and knew it wouldnt last forever.

CMA has done a great job righting the ship and turning the seaosn around but the one gripe I do have with him this year is his ability to counter other teamd adjustments. On this streak we have gotten out to some big leads and in control for a while and the teams seem to go on a big run to get back into the game. He needs to make smarter substitutions at key times (which is easier said than done by us the fans). We really need to counter punch better and not panic during other teams runs.

A big flaw in this team is a lack of a big presence on defense. Sure Josh Roberts can block some shots but any decent big can consistently score at will downlow against us. Once we go up big teams just dump the ball down low on us to get back into the game. Its so frustrating.

All in all we are in a solid poisiton that we thought there was no chance to be in to end the seaosn. lets hope they can close out strong and be in the convo for a tourney bid.

I hate to blame the refs because there are always a lot of reasons besides the refs.   This is a team short on talent and long on desire and hard work.    No doubt though, that Posh is the motor on this team.   Last night, there is no question to me that on fouls #2 and #4 that they were clearly offensive fouls, and #3 was a very questionable touch foul in the middle.   I don't know if the same ref made all three calls, but it looked almost like a deliberate attempt to bring him back to earth.

As soon as foul #2 put Posh on the bench in the first half, it took the winds out of the sails that appeared on its way to blowng open perhaps an insumountable lead.   Yes, it's the Big East and there are always swings, but that foul put Posh on the bench for the rest of the first half.

Without Posh and Champ playing 30+ minutes, we are a below average team.

Bitter pill to swallow, since we had a W in our control and lost it. Tough to win without Posh playing like his usual self. And tough to win when teams slow it down and pound it down low. The addition of Hodge and Thompson playing well makes Butler a tough team, especially at Hinkle. Still thrilled with the season. Let's bounce back!

Goes to show how important Posh is to our team. Sub-par game, but in 33 minutes on the floor, the team was still a +5. The comfort level is apparent. Not to crap on Dunn, because he did make some huge shots, but in his 38 minutes, we were a -5. Only 1 turnover stepping out of bounds, but it was crucial and unforced. Dunn also tied Champ with team-high 13 field goal attempts, not a recipe for success in a one possession game.
