(POST GAME ) #16 Arizona (Chase Ctr), Sat. Dec. 21, 10p, ESPN-2, 970 WNYW

One thing that I want to add about this game before I start
my year end wind down from Redmen.Com(I will be at the Butler game with my son and really hoping for a strong game) was that we need to give Steere a little runway. There wasn’t much to judge in his four minutes on the court except his free throw stroke looked great. I am sure there will be at least one game that we sing his praises hopefully more. He needs time to get adjusted to the team and college basketball. He is a transfer but he has never played a college basketball game before so effectively he is like a Redshirt Freshman although unfortunately a Sophomore. MA will figure it out.

It looked like he missed a few defensive assignments and Coach Mike decided not to go to him again in the 2nd half. Remember in Dunn's first night back he played a ton of minutes. I do not think Coach Mike was happy with Steere on D.

That may have been the case but again you can’t compare Steere to Dunn. Dunn is a mature player who played two seasons of college basketball. Also his first game wasn’t against Arizona.

It's going to be difficult for Steere to get very many minutes in close games. Mike will use his most dependable players in the BE games.

Steere had the deer in the headlights look in the Arizona game. It's going to take some time to get accustomed to Mike's fast paced press.

I think he will be a valuable starter next season.

Reopened guess we get to stay up later.
Still not sure why we need 3 threads for each game.
It's more organized IMO having 3 game threads. It's much easier to read through everything if you don't frequent the forums often.
Agree that it’s more organized and easier to navigate posts. Don’t mind ending the pre-game thread and starting a game thread. Don’t like ending the game thread, especially after a huge game like Saturday while we’re all still analyzing the game and reveling in the W. Nice to be able to quote others’ posts. Just my 2 cents, no disrespect to Paul and the mods.
Agree, I wouldn't mind having the game thread open after the final buzzer. It lets everybody soak in what happened and contribute.
When the buzzer goes off, it feels a little to much like “last call” on the board. And I hate “last call” almost as much as my buddy Mike Maher lol.
agree about keeping game thread and then it continues as post game thread and agree that mar call sucks and they should change the name to what it really means “ go the fuck home “

A team that is scrappy, in super shape & defends will compete v anyone in BE this year. Add some scoring from Heron, avoid injuries & get that shooting % up a bit & Johnnies will give us a hell of a season.

As noted by Monte, the cultural change is palpable; an AD who sets a professional tone & communicates effectively, a HC who promotes & practices a grade A work ethic, established a no BS family first philosophy and put together a staff who work well together. All in all a “sea change”
And a HC that adapts on the fly...when he saw that that Caraher was struggling and Sears was adding value he adjusted the PT. Also, it would have been very easy to force Steere into the plan but he didn’t take the path that might seem obvious.
Caraher seemed very nervous when pressured. Threw up a few forced shots.Even though he sat most of the first half coach started him in the second half. Just shows Anderson's basketball smarts, give the kid confidence, don't punish him. Gotta play your heart out for this coach!

Agree and to judge a player on 3 minutes of play is ridiculous.

Steere will be fine after a couple of games getting acclimated to pace. Great thing is we truly have 11 guys who can and will play and contribute at the BE level.
Going to be a fun ride the rest of the year as it has been up to now.
Add me to the list of people muting the TV. Tried the volume in the second half for a second and he was harping about the electoral college. Good grief!

Who knew, Sears was just waiting for the competition to improve before he stepped up his game. Even knocked down two free throws. Totally changed his routine at the line, actually looks at the basket before shooting now. I think Roberts has the crown as the worst shooter from the foul line no

Nice the see improvement from so many players just a dozen or so games in. Huge credit to the whole coaching staff for getting it done. Rutherford, Williams, Sears all look like different players than they did a month ago.

Funny to look at it this way, but it's true, LJs underhanded flip ended up being the difference in the game.
Don't like Roberts' over the head foul shot, needs to be softer. His is hard to control.

I think we should have just 1 game thread, Not a pre, in game and post.Sometimes I read the game thread right after the game and want to respond, but cant because its locked.

Not to mention thanking a poster for a good post.

You could still respond, just c&p.
I agree though, why is it so hard to read if just one thead? Just before you leave look at the page, so when you come back you could start the thread from that page, shouldn't be to hard to do.

To add a little clarity to this discussion one of the main reasons this was instituted was because of long threads being hard to navigate on mobile screens. There were also some occasions where the threaded replies became ridiculously deep and then on small screens they were very hard to read physically. When I moved the forum to a flat version with no threading several years ago, there was a lot of complaints from people that didn't like the flat format - which is generally easier to navigate on small screens. But this current version does have nested quotes where similar issues can cause a problem because of the nested quotes getting too deep.

I appreciate the postgame thread as it is nice not having to figure out where the game threads end. Some of us have zero interest in making or reading in game posts which tend to be less analytical than other threads. It’s there for those who want it.

Since a new thread exists for post game I don’t understand the difficulty in the existing format.

Paul I’m somewhat illiterate when it comes to this kind of language, but here’s a suggestion if it makes sense; continue the game thread and when the game ends and change the title to include the page signifying where the game ends. This way anyone who doesn’t want to read the game posts, and doesn’t want to have to figure out where the game posts end, can pick up on the page denoted in the title of the post. And those of us who tend to post a lot during the game can continue the conversation. Not sure if that solves your other nesting issue, since frankly I have no clue what you’re talking about lol.

It's Mullin's loss that he didn't show up. I'm sure his former players would have been thrilled to see him and Greg St. Jean.

The victory celebration including Chris afterwards would have been special.

Anyway, it's best to look forwards to the CMA era. I expect a lot of good things will happen for St John's. Mike took UAB to the Sweet 16 (2004) his 2nd year. It looks like he's on track to have similar success at St John's.

Or keep the 3 seperate threads, but keep the game thread open until people start posting less on it.
Maybe late that night or the next day. Have the game and post threads both open would be ok?
