(POST GAME) #10 Creighton, Sun. Mar. 1, Noon, FS-1 / 970 AM WNYM

The Johnnies can earn a NIT bid. They need to finish the season with at least another W and win a couple in the BE tournament.

Great job today against Creighton. Shooting is always the deciding factor in basketball. Today, the Johnnies had hot hands. I hope it continues against Butler on Wednesday.

I'm so excited for this hard working team. They've had a couple heart breaking losses and still keep on fighting. It paid off today.
In order to win a couple of games in the BE T we would have to beat the top seed in the second game. Not impossible but a tall order. Hope we can get an NIT bid with one win in the BET and a record of 17-16.
Sounds like a successful first season for Coach Anderson. I'd be thrilled if we do that well and get into the NIT.

Let's see if the Johnnies hot shooting continues Wed against Butler. I'm hoping that it will.
Big congrats to the team! Also happy to see there is still a shot that MA’s .500 streak has a chance to live.
Just remember, 1 win in these last 2 does not automatically clinch it. If we do that, and lose to Georgetown, that would make us 16-16. The NIT took Butler with that exact record last season, and they lost in the first round to finish 16-17, and that was in a weaker Big East. If we're 16-16, it would probably come down to how many automatic bids the NIT has to hand out (for those who don't know, they go to regular season conference champs, who lose their conference tournaments, and are snubbed by the NCAA, so the number of auto bids is wide ranging).

Just confirmed that a team must have a 500 or better record to be invited to the NITs.

The 500 record is possible.

With its Net rating a 500 record may get St.John’s in the NIT.

StJohn’s is now 15-14 with 2 regular season games remaining and at least 1 BE Tourney game.

The regular season games are (away) against Butler, and (home at MSG) against Marquette.

Kenpom gives StJohn’s a slim 23% chance against Butler but an encouraging 45% chance against Marquette.

Winning one of the next 2 makes us 16- 15 heading into the bE Tournament.

Bottom line the Johnnies need one of the next 2. If it wins one of the next 2 it will guarantee at least a 500 record regardless of the BE Tournament.

Keep hope alive.
I have 6 words to say: Abandon the ‘beer and piss arena’. It’s the main reason SJU can’t win a home game. Bad enough they’re forced to play the BET there (where they always lose first or second round). The garden is nothing but THE CURSE OF THE WOEFUL KNICKS!!! Carnesecca Arena forever!!!!!!!
I’m sorry but I can’t get behind this. I’ve seen too many wins at the Garden (of course, back in the day) against the likes of Duke, Pitt, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Seton Hall, etc that when we’re good, that Arena is ours and it should always be ours. When this whole thing finally turns around and we’re winning 20-plus games a season the Garden will be an asset and you know kids want to win on one of the greatest stages in all of sports. This city always gets behind a winner and when we become a winner, the Garden will rock in red.

Just so delighted for these kids and coach! Showed real character with the way they played today, aided of course by some unbelievably hot shooting.
Win 1 of next 2 and the play in game and we'd be in NIT which would be a very successful season. Frankly, even if we don't do that, I am very optimistic going forward. Dunn, Williams and Champ are flat out BE starter quality guys and Earlington is a keeper bringing great energy off the bench. Add the newcomers to that core and things are looking up.
I'd also be happy to see Caraher back next year. Although he is often physically overmatched, he does so many basketball things the right way and when he hits shots he is a very useful guy.

Happy for the team as they have battled all season in Big East with very little results.

Really happy for Greg Williams. If he finds some confidence and swagger he could be a great player for us.
This is the best I have felt about the team since the Arizona game. I have been having a hard time personally and have missed some games but I plan to be at the Marquette game hoping for at least a .500 season.

I also agree that Anderson will recruit players that will make us more competitive.
Hang in there Andrew. I have been there. All you can do is fight through it. A game like this is really great medicine.

Key guy for next season steps up, happy for him;

Seeing those flashes of quickness and athleticism, with the ability to hit a 3, reminded me of a Felipe Lopez type of player. He has shown the 3, and the athleticism is in there. As he gains confidence, it will happen for him.

Wow, missed the game but GWill for 7 treys? Where’d that come from? Was waiting to see something. Hopefully this version of Greg is here to stay. He’s a keeper for sure.

Just got home from the game. This was without a doubt THE most satisfying win I’ve ever seen live at CA. I must admit, though, when Creighton went ahead, I was beginning to worry. I thought for sure they would get hot and we would start forcing errors. But our guys kept their cool. It may have been discussed already, but I was very surprised McDemott didn’t press us more.

As decrepit an arena as CA is, there is nothing like beating a team like Creighton in our building on our campus. Reinforces in me the thought that I want all of our non-MSG games to be at CA. A place like Belmont could never replace the atmosphere of an on campus arena. Proud of our guys today!

Great day for the Johnnies! Congrats to the kids and CMA.

As frustrating as some nights have been, I'll still say this is an easy group of kids to root for. They're scrappy, they put in the effort and the coach seems to be teaching them to represent the program well in the classroom and on the court.

Good times ahead...

@BrandonTierney

One thing about St. John's this century: too many players failed to match hype and the few who did left early for the pros, w/mostly negative results.

Gregg Williams is different.

Under-the-radar, slowly blossoming and poised to be a key 3rd/4th year player.

Nice change.

Just a friendly note for Knight: you may want to edit the score in the first post on this thread. it shows Creighton winning 91-71. We all know better, but I did a double-take when I first saw it... ;)

Great day.

Terrific crowd for a 3 win team in conference.

We shot a crazy % from three, and got great games from those aforementioned.

Creighton is a very good team.that shot horribly from 3.

R-w was mobbed. We need more of that. Many were alums of the womens program as invuted guests.

When you go through a drought you forget how good a win feels. Winning at CA feels different - campus is our home, and its our place.

Big plus - a CMA bobblehead. I hope its the last ciach bobblehead for a long while.

Sometimes you are not as smart as you think. Last week I posted that if SJU didn't press and create some offense off their pressure they would struggle to score fifty. Today they played very little pressure defense because Creighton handed it very well in the games first few minutes and SJU scores over ninety.
