Possible Coaching Candidates

If Pitino comes and just brings Clayton and Slazinski (who was a Louisville recruit originally) with him and we have the beginnings of a roster that includes:
Posh
Wusu
Jones
Storr
Soriano
Stanley
Gardner
Lededborg
Slazinski
Clayton

Add 3 impact transfers who can shoot the three and that’s a quality team.

Half the players you mention will not be around by September.

What about Traoré, Keita and Harrison Reede ?
Have we thrown them off the team ?
I understand not including Curbelo.

I'll be brutally honest, if all 12 spots can be filled up with studs, then yes those 3 have to go.
That's all up to Rick, see FSU this year, they sucked because of injuries. Never can have enough top players.

I agree that sucks.

Rick isn't obligated to keep anyone from this team.

Pitino isn’t being hired to coach the current team. Remember what Parcells said about cooking dinner…

IF Pitino comes, everyone is missing the point.
Don’t have to worry about players or rosters. By year 2 he will get players he wants and we will be good. Or we won’t and we can just finally realize we will be bad forever.

While at Manhattan, Fran had a very good player, Heshimu Evans who was from the Bronx. After it was announced that Fran was coming here Evans, who had two more years of eligibility, decided to transfer wanting to play at a bigger school ona bigger stage. Fran would have loved to bring him here and he would have come but Fran had made a promise not to “raid” any of his players from Manhattan.

Evans would up at Kentucky where after sitting out a year was the sixth man on their 1998 National Championship team and being a full time starter the next year.

Let’s grab the coach first. He will then evaluate the roster meet with the team and possibly recruits who had committed. Then decisions will have to be made by all parties.

But they always want it both ways. I have stated that I don't think the talent on this years team was not nearly as good as many on this site think. I was told that it was Coach Anderson's fault for not recruiting better players. If Pitino is such a great coach, he should be able to attract players through the transfer portal and recruiting them from high school without dismantling the Iona program by taking their players. Players who are clearly worse than our own players, or are they.
Wait... So you we believe that players on the team were not very good and then were told by posters it was Andersons fault for not recruiting better players. And you consider that a 'both ways' argument?

First of all, this thread is entitled Possible Coaching Candidates. However, everyone seems to be assuming Pitino is a done deal. If not, there will be a lot of disappointed posters. But I will play along. The beauty of a Pitino hire is we will know, once and for all, if a Hall of Fame coach can overcome the years of mediocrity and the shortcoming in facilities. No other coach that is available will bring that certainty to the program.
