Possible Coaching Candidates

FWIW, spoke to a good friend who knows Boynton since he was young, and said he'd be shocked if he came back East. Remember, Boynton played college ball at South Carolina, and immediately started taking coaching jobs at schools in South Carolina, followers by Texas and now Oklahoma. So it's been over 2 decades since he left Brooklyn. He has no direct info saying he wouldn't be interested, but just his thoughts.
Once you buy Tony Lamas , you aren’t coming back East .

Chris Beard's fiancé did state it was in self defense and that she wasn't trying to hurt him. However could be a loving spouse trying to cover his butt. My vote still goes to speedy Claxton. Successful at Hofstra, young, and shouldn't cost an arm and a leg. Petino honestly I'll pass the guy is 72 years old. However I'll take petino with a head coach in waiting (which one of our own assistants could work as a mentor mentee thing). Mike brey .... I'll keep Anderson at least he never had a losing record lol

Pitino is 70. He’ll be 71 in September. Don’t make him any older! ;) :ROFLMAO:

Never in a million years would this administration consider Beard and I can't fault them on that one like I can with Pitino. My guess is Beard takes the full year off next year with an agreement with Louisville in place once they cut bait with Payne after year 2.

Curious why you can’t fault them with Beard but can with Pitino?

Didn't Beard's girlfriend have enough bite and bruise marks on her that they arrested him instead of sending them to two different locations to cool down? That's way worse than Pitino, regardless of if charges were dropped. I personally think anyone who says a hard no to Pitino but is OK with Beard is insane. And every time I see your screen name, I'll assume that you've beaten women in the past.

My first guess would have been that Texas Tech rehires him and he rehabs his image there, but Adams is on a mini streak at the moment.

Despite the charges being dropped it's pretty clear that Beard beat the you know what out of his fiance. She can and has claimed Beard was acting in self defense (nonsensical if you read the actual report) and she's obviously not pursuing charges now because she wants to stay with him and Beard will obviously make tons of money if he's able to rehabilitate his image and continue on with his coaching career. With that story being so recent and high profile it's reasonable for athletic departments to be very wary of hiring him right now. That said, somebody will hire him at some point and any backlash will dissipate quickly if he has on court success.

As for Pitino, if you ask even some of the more hardcore college basketball fans what his personal scandal was they probably wouldn't even know or remember at this point. If you explained it to them most would say something along the lines of that's kind of slimy but not THAT bad all things considered, especially since it happened over 20 years ago. Any concerns about NCAA sanctions or discipline stemming from his Louisville dismissal have been quashed and he nor anybody else will get in trouble for paying players again.

I personally wouldn't be totally opposed to a Beard hire but I understand and accept why it would never happen. I can't wrap my head around this level of contempt the school has for Pitino.

Looking for some civil debate here.

Anyone know why Iona refused to give Pitino a new contract? Why isn’t Iona doing everything they can to keep Pitino? Surely they won’t be able to find a better coach if/when he leaves. He must be making the school a ton of money fund raising.

Quote from Pitino: “We didn’t necessarily talk about a lifetime contract, we talked about a new contract and it didn’t work out for a variety of reasons. I’m not upset and nobody’s upset about it, it just didn’t work out. There was a changing of the guard with the Board of Trustees and a few other things that didn’t work out with the contract so it’s no hard feelings and we just try to have a great team this year.”

Sure, they’re hoping that Mike Anderson becomes available so they can snatch him up. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

You're assuming SJU has contempt for Pitino. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the other way around.

So for the Pitino supporters do you assume they all are cheaters that are willing to pay for abortions?
