I feel the opposite, so we’re screwed. ☺️

We’ll be praying to the hoop gods this weekend, that Shamorie’s mother and grandmother agree with his dad, for sure.

Thanks for that info. Based on that I would think coming back to SJU develop his game gets his stats up etc might be worth it. That is if he does not get injured, seems like a good bet. Outside of an injury, the G LEAGUE will always be there but coming back for a yr gives him a better chance making the NBA .MHO

Yes, with a great year, he could position himself to being drafted in the late 1st round / early second, or the CBA becomes an option for him--if he can handle the octopus and the 'distance' from home.

I've been correct about three times in 15 years, so . . .

You should be praying he makes the best decision for him and his family regardless of the decision he makes. We have no idea what a mistake would be, it's his decision not ours if he leaves that's his right SJU will move on. If our season hinges on him than the staff is to blame not him don't forget that he owes SJU and us nothing

It appears that Ponds has showcased enough of his workouts recently and in the Combine Tryouts to get feedback fron the Pros on his chances . That feedback has been that he could benefit from another Season in College . He and his Family now have the necessary information to make a decision . Anything posted on this site regarding that Decision is just Speculation and opinion of the poster .

I'm sure there are some success stories of guys who have played themselves into the NBA after leaving college and playing abroad, but I feel that once you do leave college and go down that road, you've fallen into a large pool of guys not good enough for the NBA. The bloom is off the rose, so to speak. If Ponds wants to make money now, or college academics aren't for him, if he chooses that road I hope it works out for him. However, if he aspires to be an NBA player, it seems to me that the most pragmatic move would be to stay put for one more season.

The decision is his. That we hinge our season on one guy at this point simply points to how much work our staff has to do to build a formidable roster.

We'll find out in 5days tops with what he decides, glad it's almost over.
I think he's he's the diff between the ncaa and 8/9th place in the B.E..

How much better is Ponds over DLo if at all? Is DLo in the NBA? and DLo played all 4 years here.

Ponds and DLO were different types of Players . DLO was a Scorer and he put up some nice Career Numbers . A very Good College Player and he played hard and well during his 4 years . A few blips on the Attitude and Behavior side but, he seemed to mature and grow from those mistakes . Ponds, on the other hand, is a Player capable of taking over a game , dominating it with his skills and leaving opponents and their Coaches scratching their heads . He has single handedly won Games for us and gone off for big numbers against some highly touted players, Brunson, Machura, DiVinsenzo , Allen on Duke , etc . He is very hard to defend , one on one . And , remember , he was only a Soph last year and led the BE in Scoring . Teams devoted their entire defense to stopping him . Mostly , it didn’t work . Sure , he had some off games but, he put up some huge numbers on Ranked teams . He was asked to do a lot and he did alot . Great Player! We need to value seeing him for the rest of his Career here . He’s a Special talent . And , great kid and teammate .

NY Post says players have until June 11 to withdraw from the draft.

NCAA rules state that they have to withdraw by May 30 to retain their college eligibility.
June 11 is more for international players who only have to follow the NBA rules and want to put off their eligibility for a year or two.

There are really only 5 players in my memory that I was confident would become NBA players for certain - Mullin, Berry, Sealy, Artest, and George Johnson.

I thought Mark Jackson was way too slow and he proved a lot of people wrong. Jayson WIlliams was a revelation before he broke his leg. Felipe Lopez played 5 years but I didn't think he was sure fire.

Making the NBA as a smaller guard who isn't a deadly shooter is a really tough proposition. You just never know if he can take it to the hoop against bigger, better players. Iverson had incredible quickness and could just about do whatever he wanted.

I really hope Ponds reaches his dream of the NBA, in fact I'd root for a 1st round pick is he stays in the draft. But right now, I don't feel that's a strong bet, and I hope he sticks around not for us, but for Shamorie.

I also thought Erick Barkley had what it takes to be a very solid pro. If memory serves me well, he had some personal issues that held him back.

I saw Sonny Dove play 3 years for us . Despite a slight frame and only about 6’7-8” was a first round pick of the Pistons back in 1967. Sonny was a elite Player and while he did not have a long Pro Career he was clearly a NBA talent . I thought Mark Jackson was under utilized by Louie in his first 2 Years but, turned into a NBA Rookie of the Year. By the time Mark was a Senior , you could see he had NBA Talent and smarts . Pitino used him perfectly with the Knicks .
