Ponds

So SJU could lose both Ponds and Lovett this year. Two great players but not first round picks.

Looking at the other 9 Big East teams, how many are losing ONE let alone two players like this? Govan is coming back to Georgetown. Seriously, who else is still in the draft that isn't a high draft pick?

Obviously nothing has happened yet, I'm just preparing myself lol. Board would get really ugly if he leaves.

If they end up playing in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, no one is going to care about the car they drive other than themselves.
Unfortunately instant gratification doesn't work in pro basketball dreams. Unless you play for a top foreign team or are a first round pick the dream can quickly become a nightmare.

Instant gratification rarely is the best course of action in many areas of life, not just BB. Better to look long term.

That's Shamorie's impulsive 'man cry', probably accompanied by beating his chest.
Hopefully--if the likely outcome is to go undrafted and toil in smoky anonymous towns--his family persuades him to return.

Gotta think we'll know one way or the other by Tuesday (recognize he has until Wednesday to decide). Others are starting to announce their decisions as workouts are mostly all done. K State's excellent junior guard Barry Brown just announced he is returning for his senior year.

I'm thinking 'word' may leak out this weekend IF he's leaving. Keeping that particular decision 'to go' bottled up would be nigh impossible for a 19 yr old kid, especially in NYC, with the likes of Zach querying minute-to-minute.
If he chooses to return, it's my guess it'll be Tuesday / Wednesday.

Ironically, I'm betting that 'no news will be good news' through the weekend.

My opinion is he follows two other former St. John’s guards of similar height who after very Barkley and Cook and stay in the draft. Both were drafted Barkley after his sophomore year was the 28th and last pick of the first round while Cook went after his freshman year and was the 3rd pick of the second round. Combined I don’t think they played more than four seasons in the NBA. Barkley was older than your average sophomore as he spent one or two (I am pretty sure it was two) post grad years at a prep school.

I don’t think his heart is in coming back and is ready to take his chances even if it means less money over seas somewhere.

Really not much point in speculating on why he might want to leave. Fact is we don't know. All we can do as SJU and Shamorie fans is hope he thoughtfully evaluates advice he gets from family and other trusted advisors who have his best interests at heart and makes his decision accordingly. It will be hard for him to get the kind of media attention/adulation he will get in NYC playing for a successful Johnnie team elsewhere.
No point in trying to interpret cryptic social media posts. We'll find out soon enough.
The primary occupation of most on this Board is to tea leaf 'interpret' social media and ALL sources that may impact our roster. Lol.

No, it isn't but unlike Marcus LoVett and his dad, Slick will have wiser advice since he has had workouts with a number of evaluators and his goal is getting drafted by the league as opposed to heading overseas where, for all intents and purposes, he will be forgotten in the states and that may not sit well with his dad or his Brooklyn peeps.
We'll see what the Lovett effect has on him.

Good insight ‘72. From your lips to the way it’ll be. Let’s hope.

Now I’m enjoying myself in Rome this evening with a few glasses of Prosecco under my belt so I may be misreading Paultz’ usual cryptic post. But in my experience, boomerangs generally come back so I’m going to take that as a positive.
