Agree, Paultz is the best!
But I (and dare I say more than a few others on this Board) need your advanced class in Tea Leaf Reading!

No doubt, this is a great day!
I firmly believe that while Shamorie's decision benefits St. John's--it's also in his long-term best interest.
Hoping he plays himself into the first round NBA Draft in the 2018-19 season!

Nope.

Yeah, with Ponds it will be fun next year, if Heron comes, it should be alot of fun and should make some noise in the NCAA Tourny.
Now with that said. Ponds and Marvin will be gone after next year. If Heron equals Ponds stats then he'll vprobably try for the nba as well, and Simon might leave as a grad transfer as well.
I'm thinking if we blow up and get 25 wins and something like 15B.E. wins, some top recruits will see this and might take a chance on Mullin & SJU. Next year could change the way recruits look at SJU.
If all this happens and we still can't recruit top HS talent, then no extension for Mullin.
Gotta think bigger then one great season then back to crap ball.

Gotta be good every year.
I once heard an expression that a Jets fan could find a bag of 20s and bitch about them not being 50s. I think this post qualifies for that.

Anyway, thanks to Shamorie for making the right decision and making me a happy guy. How about Bale back to White Hart Lane next? A boy can dream, right?
So I guess you'll be happy making noise next year only to get 15wins again the following year.

The way I see it, a great season next year should help with recruiting, am I wrong?
So if we have a throwback season from the 80s and still can't recruit, then wouldn't that tell you that something's wrong?

Not a good day for the handful of posters who seemingly take glee over program setbacks.

I can't help but feel a little sorry for Ponds. Like just about all college players at his talent level, his aspirations are the NBA. When it became apparent to him that he would not be drafted in the 1st round, and possibly undrafted altogether, it had to be a major disappointment. I'd imagine he weighed all options, including playing professionally overseas, before deciding to come back.

The plus side for any kid thinking of playing for sju is that only in new york can a player get coverage from a major newspaper simply by returning for his junior year.

Like all the kids who play here, i hope he realizes his dreams and that the nba is part of them.

He will have to improve all weaknesses in his game, and hopefully the combines gave him great feedback. I'm pretty sure that both St. Jean and Mullin will push him to improve in those areas. I'm aware of some of the things that the staff had identified and they are not inconsistent with the feedback from the combines.

I hope Ponds returns with an urgent sense of purpose and has a killer junior season
Nothing would please me more for him than to hear his name called in the 1st round of next year's NBA draft. Of course, a trip to the dance would be great also.

Yeah, I love when we suck because I want to see them to get good recruits and continue to build on next years possibly great season???? Yeah, that makes alot of sense.
Maybe we see alot from the JC kid in february and march, maybe Dixon shows he can score in the B.E. like he did in the other conf. Maybe Keita becomes a beast next year.
Add some really nice recruits next year, and just possibly we don't have to have a setback in 2 years.

Wouldn't you agree that being an ncaa team every year is more fun then one year in the ncaa tourny then back to a 15 win team the following year.

As a Jet fan of over 40 years we rarely find 20's. Hoping that Darnold may be our 50.

More importantly welcome back Shamorie Ponds!

I am thrilled I will get to watch you play another year at SJU. You have the talent to play in the NBA one day. Just keep following your dream.

“To get a degree in three years outweighed everything”...... father and son with their heads on right!!! I love ball, admire and respect that intelligence and love way more. Congratulations to the Ponds entire family, Shamorie is headed for great things, NBA or not.

Maybe, your implication is that the coaching staff doesn't want to build a team that is good every year. Maybe, you think the fans have higher expectations than the coaching staff. Maybe, you should try supporting the staff once in a while, especially since you have no idea what they are doing behind the scenes.

I don't think any posters take "glee" over setbacks. It's pure frustration and constantly not realizing our potential...or 1 step forward, 2 steps back that have unfortunately symbolized our program. I'm surprised Ponds is back and that is great news, because we need him next year to have any real shot at the NCAA's. I would urge caution however...this does not guarantee anything as we still have a major depth issue with bigs and we have no idea how Keita will do and has a reputation for being raw. Only having Keita as our true big will be a more significant issue if we can't get Heron for this year. If somehow Heron comes next year to join Ponds and we are not killed with the injury bug, the NCAA's would have to be a given unless of course our coaching cannot do their jobs. It would be interesting, because with Heron next year it's as loaded a roster as pretty much anyone outside of UK, Duke, etc. so if we still underperformed it would be very damning evidence that the staff is not fit for the job. Hopefully it all works out and we actually get some sunshine for a change.

People sometimes forget about the education aspect to all of this. Congratulations to Shamorie and his family if he is able to graduate after next season and then get drafted.

Also, how refreshing is it to see quotes from a parent that actually cares about these things and sees the bigger picture and not just the money that could come with the NBA.

Just looking for a really good yr next yr . If it happens it s good and better things to come. The players we have are what is going on the court next season, lets support them and staff and wish them well.Lets not get negative until its time, then express our opinions in a positive not a personnel way.WE HAVE A LOTS OF TALENTon this team now lets see what staff can do with it.Lets not over hype our situation. There are a lots of great teams out here as well a very great players and coaches. Hope we all just enjoy the journey it has been long but just maybe we will start too see the light.

Not to be a debbie downer, but I find it fascinating that the expectations and potential are always set so high for a program that really hasn't done much in the last 20 years......

Maybe because of all the crap teams I root for, maybe because I’m getting older, but I’m gonna take the good news we got last night and enjoy it, not bitch about it.
