Ponds - 1st NBA game

Like Heron this year?

Ridiculous comparison. If Ponds comes back, hits the weight room & proved he could play the point. He would be in the NBA right now. Can't use injury as an EXCUSE for a dumb decision.

No, he would be playing for the Johnnies right now. And Ponds was never, and probably will never, be a point guard. He certainly can pass the ball but he is no more a point guard than Dunn is. Playing point is way more a mind set than it is your height or whether you can pass the ball.
IMO, neither is Howard from Marquette and it is kind of a joke to me that he is up for the Cousy award, he averages as many TOs as assists. He is a terrific offensive player, no question, but he is not a point guard.

What makes you so sure he would have improved his game and draft stock? How do you know he wouldn't have ended up hurt like Heron? How do you know he wouldn't have lost a potential year of earnings by coming back and ending up in the same position?

Somewhat, although not the same situation. I think Ponds was more polished at the time. But to your point, yes, this crap can happen. I hope he recovers and has a successful career.

Valid points. But from what it seems like he isn't signed with anyone right now. He had a quick stint with the Raptors and that's it. I cant imagine his earnings are what he envisioned.

I think him coming back would of enhanced his stock just on the simple fact of the publicity he would of got. See Powell and Howard.

What has Markus Howard done to improve his draft stock? He was looked at as a mid to late 2nd round pick last year. Current mock drafts have him the same this year. Myles Powell last year was looked at as a fringe 2nd round pick. Same for this year. Meanwhile if both had gone overseas they would have had a prime earning year this year. Just saying.

How could Ponds have come back and be in the NBA right now? He'd be playing tomorrow vs. Xavier if he came back.

If Ponds thought process was strictly to make the NBA he should have left SJU after his soph year. The pros draft on potential and he probably would have gone higher then instead of after his jr year. He could have worked on his strength and shooting full time and while I don't think he would have improved enough to make the NBA I think his chances would have been better.

100% right. Look at the history of recent drafts, and you will see how few juniors and seniors are even picked. The only problem was, Ponds wasn't a lock after his sophomore year to get picked. It's not like he was showing up in every mock draft.

He went to pre draft workouts and told he wasnt ready.

Wonder whats up with him not signing anywhere. Very odd. I think it has alot to do with the work ethic.

Feeling likes he is just going to end up as another could of been.

Despite the BE being a high level League with many very good players , it doesn’t send a lot of kids to the NBA . As many have said , right or wrong , the NBA drafts on Potential and not necessarily College Success . They have their Eyes on Players they want , even in High School .

I know Ponds didn't get picked up on g-league draft a few weeks ago..

Have no idea when international  seasons begin/end, just shocking to me that he's not playing anywhere overseas after trying to make it in both NBA & G-League last year.

Might he still get a look overseas next year at a decent level opportunity, or is it all over?  Any info?
