Pitino

He publicly admitted to paying for an abortion with a woman he had an affair with. We are a Catholic school. He is not being hired.
And Catholic priests have been molesting children for years and the Catholic Church has hidden it and swept it under the rug. Which is worse? If Pitino wants to come here and promises to run it clean for the time he is here then get him here.
Using your logic we can also start a major for prostitution. This way Pitino can use student interns instead of more expensive hires.

So are you saying that you are in favor of hiring priests that molested children to work in a parish? I don't think your analogy works here.

John, as you noted, we are a Catholic university, and the administration would likely be more disturbed by the abortion and the extramarital affair(s) than the cheating.

So I guess Tiger Woods coming here to coach the golf team would be a total non-starter.
Phew.

Are you saying because of this he won't be or he shouldn't be ?

My point is that even though what the Catholic Church has done is horrible, Catholics forgive and still go to mass on Sunday and support the church and understand that people are human and that no one is perfect and that people make mistakes and use poor judgment, even priests. That being the case, why should Pitino be ruled out? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I have no issue with bringing Pitino here as long he runs it clean while he’s here.

Gene, forgiveness sought is different than denying any wrongdoing and pointing fingers at others. I may have missed Pitino Sr. owning his actions.
I would not accept a priest back into a parish even if he sought forgiveness for molesting children. My best reply to him would be "go away to prison and ask later."

Keep saying I’m not going to get involved in this conversation, but just can’t help myself when I see some of the insane comments made here. For starters, for those of you mentioning “foregiveness”, when exactly did Rick apologize for anything and ask for foregiveness? Second, for those of you who think this is just about Catholic morals, UCLA wanted absolutely nothing to do with Rick, and to the best of my knowledge that had nothing to do with Catholic morals. Let’s face facts, wherever Rick lands(it ain’t gonna be here no matter how many family friends want him here) he will be under the watchful eye of both the Feds and the NCAA. No school needs that one-two punch up thier ass. Although some school, out of sheer desperation, will be willing to accept that. To that I say: better them then us.
I will never understand the satisfaction any intelligent person could possibly get from winning by cheating. Just root for Duke or NC or Kentucky or Kansas, etc. Me, I would rather lose.
I would love to win by not cheating nor do I endorse cheating. All I’m saying is if the NCAA doesn’t give a damn about clear cases of cheating why should I (if our coach does indeed cheat).

I don’t think this is over for Wade but if it is then his case as well as the whole North Carolina case just proves that NCAA doesn’t care.

My point, exactly.

Only one he should ask forgiveness to is god himself, aand no one else.
He had sex in a restaurant and the waitress wanted it, the only one he has to apologize to is his wife, and not society.
The college scandal, yes he's out at but if guilty then he'd be lock up with the others.

Him saying sorry would say he's guilty.

Quite honestly, I am blown away by some posters who are willing to accept a cheater to win. That's crazy and WRONG!

My opinion is that he should be and I will continue to state that until we have a coach and probably long after if it doesn't go well.

Some of us -- like myself and, if I understand him correctly, John Mar -- aren't saying Pitino shouldn't be hired because of the abortion issue. The point is, a Catholic university would no doubt put more far weight on those issues than a non-Catholic school like UCLA would. Not saying I agree with it, just saying it's likely true.

Unlike other cheaters, he never actually needed to cheat to win, though. Maybe he can fight the voices in his head telling him to cheat and he can be clean for five years . . . and ride off into the sunset after having brought us our first national championship.

Totally understand thinking that and appreciate the clarification. My statements continue to be about what I feel should happen. There seem to be other "holier than though comments" bashing Pitino personally.
