Matt has shown he can recruit decent big men, so not stressing over a kid who never would have considered us other than for the fact that Manute and Mullin were buddies. OSNA seems like a decent pipeline, and we've shown a willingness to recruit Jucos, Europe, and the grad transfer market.

Maybe he's too tall for the uniforms. :)

Now I can breathe and be calm Knight, as if it we're Day...no rejection of our staff or school, no reflection on SJU's desirability as a destination, none of the "BIG BOYS" sweeping the recruit off his feet...
It's only a lack of uniform size
Whew
There is simply not, a more congenial spot, then Queens and kings and Knights...
Tis now, after your poignant post, that I can breathe and be calm - by the way not so easy for veterans of abuse - about our recruiting both day and knight.
Camelot! We are the Camelot of the recruiting cycles.
Reassuring post My Dear Knight!
I can smile once again, smile more often as the Course in Miracles shares...
:)
There's reason to smile not just fret

My dear General,
How goes the health battle? Hope you are kicking butt!
Good health to you.

I've a nice happy grin reading your post on my health...
I was going to drop my health thing (though was good to share w/all about skin damage from sun) and to "recap" - First surgery under left eye size of a quarter removed but still positive biopsy for melanoma; Second surgery larger rim removed negative biopsy; onto plastic surgery which went well - I was impressed with both the surgeon and his ocular plastic surgeon colleague Stony Brook U Med Center - now the healing...but no eye patch, driving, fortunate!

Keeps sports and other important and fun activities in perspective...
Thank you all for your concern and prayers!
:)
Even optimistic people can be realistic and WE WILL lose some recruits and games however...
What a great time to be an SJU fan!

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear some prayers get answered the way I had hoped. :)

I'll say this about Pecora and I was his one of his biggest detractors when he was lobbying for the SJU job years ago because we would have had the same result as he did at Fordham. I actually don't think he would be a horrible assistant and I do think he did a really good job at developing guards at Hofstra. If for the 3rd asst job I'd rather have Richmond unless he doesn't want it.. If it was for the job as special assistant then there is no downside to it

I hope Pecora is not a done deal.

Pecora? Is Richmond not being offered the position? If not, why Pecora?

The only rationale by Mullin would be that he identifies with Pecora with their similar records in their first year of college coaching. Pecora won 7 games total at Fordham and one 1 conference game in the A10. His coaching record at Fordham didn't get much better than that over the remainder of his Fordham Fiasco.

There was definitely a poster here a while back who asked the board how they'd feel about having Mullin as coach and Pecora as assistant. I'm pretty sure it was someone with connections and not someone just throwing crap against the wall, so it's possible something like this had been discussed years ago.

Sense Mitch, as noted by many, will move up & Pecora may be a candidate for his vacated slot. We'll see.

Coaches records are greatly influenced by the school and program So I take their win loss ratio jsu as another factor when considering for a position

That would not go over big with The Maven
He "kills" Pecora on a regular basis on Twitter
What's Maven's beef with him besides the fact that he didn't do well at Fordham?

Pecora is not my favorite either. That said, Fordham is just an impossible job. He did have some quality seasons at Hofstra.

Not to mention, he would immediately become the most experienced college coach on our bench.

Tom Pecora is an all-time genuinely good guy who at one time would have jumped at the chance to be on staff here at SJU in an asst capacity. He is by all means a relationship guy, who is still very close to Jay Wright. He coached Hofstra for 9 seasons, and won 19 or more 5 times (no NCAA bids). Since he only left the area (for one year at UNLV as asst) is his entire career, he'd be a good bet to not be sniffing around for another job. Queens Village guy, Adelphi grad, great friends with Ed Manetta (another QV guy - hmm). Not a prayer that we'd have another Slice situation, and no question he knows X's and O's.

We could do much, much worse.than Pecora. This makes a ton of sense to me.

Meanwhile in Howard Beach.....
