Paultzman's Avatar

Since this thread is dedicated to Mr. Paultzman's Avatar, does anyone have a scouting report on Marvin Clark. I have read some articles and watched some videos, but that's about it.

MSU doesn't seem overly bummed to lose him. Izzo had previously said he needed to rebound and defend better. On YouTube ( I know, it's far from a thorough evaluation), he doesn't blow me away.

Any thoughts on this player?

Spoke to someone I know at Mich St who said he's like better fit for a mid major level

Makes sense from his stats & anecdotal info. Maybe a shoulder transplant donor for Williams? :)

Heard similar thing from a buddy of mine in Mich. Mutual parting of the ways based on lack of available minutes moving forward.

Maybe so but we are talking about a top 5 program in the country vs a last place BE team. Have heard MSU has had one of their beest if not their best recruiting class under Izzo coming in next year. Plus he had two years of being coached by Tom Izzo. If staff wants him so do I. Has body like CJ but hopefully he knows how to use it as an asset playing the game of basketball.

Only passing along what I heard. I'm also fine if staff feels he's a good fit, but we now seem to be attracting a higher caliber of kid than mid-major types. Hoping that continues.

It falls under the category of rebuild, which we are in. It's been one year... starting from scratch. So Clark is a logical step on the current ladder. Are we talking about a transfer like Clark in 3 years? I don't think we are...

I'm not sure why Clark is considered grasping at straws. He's insurance in case Ahmed and Freudenberg don't acclimate to D1 right away. And if they do and he's not needed at SF, he's 6'6" and 230, which means he can back up Yakwe, but still not be a serious threat to cut into his minutes and slow his development. Clark would be brought in as a (hopefully) versatile piece to move around as needed, yet Salty Dog is acting like we'd be counting on him for 38 mpg.

We have nine guys right now to play with, not including Williams. The staff is just trying to complete the puzzle. I prefer Livingston, but if Clark is the guy, then I'll trust them on this. Plus, this staff isn't like Lavin who would procrastinate to the last minute and pull ineligible kids out of his ass. They are working multiple kids.

Clark would sit a year just to be clear

Sorry, assumed he was a grad transfer. If that's the case, I don't expect to ever see him here. But if he is here for some reason, I stand by my opinion that he's not here as a starter. Might have been this past season, but not going forward.

Still, even off the bench, why Clark? I'd rather Livingston off the bench, or someone better then Clark off the bench.
If Clark is a mid level guy then he's a waste of a ship. Rather Chris holds it for 17.

While you guys are all patting yourselves on the back that we should pass on Clark know that we probably will have 3 schollies and can take Simon, Clark and Livingston. Or the Greek Freak in place of one. Also nice to know we are now accepting poster's buddies ranking of players as Gospel. Clark is a four start with a better body than CJ and 2 years experience being coached by Izzo one of the best coaches in the country and a demanding defensive coach. If our staff takes him I will be happy and you all can say we wasted a schollie.

Another prime example of just shutting my mouth and letting you enjoy the site your way. Clearly if SJU is going after him he's going to be a stud.

Not just because staff likes him, I like him therefore I would be happy to get him. If you can't take someone disagreeing with you and you rather not post obviously that's your prerogative. BTW you never said we would be wasting a schollie so my post in regard to whether he is a take was not directed at you.

No what I can't take is the one way street you and some others seem to have. If I can sit here and listen to some fans treat any kid we go after as the next coming I can also sit here and relay a report from someone I know who is very close and high up at MSU. It's ridiculous how any slight on anything lately is met with such resistance. I have no problem if you and 75 percent of this site wants Clarke here. But the other 25 percent should be allowed to say what they feel without backhanded comments like yours that are backed up with quotes like he has a better body that CJ like that's a determining factor.
