Pace Exhibition

Here's my thoughts on the exhibition (Thank God, it didn't count)...Stating the obvious, being without Joel, Dingle & RJ really put us behind the 8 ball. However, should we really need them in order to beat a D2 team? Joel, RJ & Cruz will be back soon, so no long term concerns. I, like many others, are a little concerned over Dingle's "injury"...we need his scoring and his leadership. Let's hope he's back soon.

Taylor's lack of playing time yesterday was puzzling. He and Alleyne, who was great again yesterday, carried us in the Rutgers game. I hope Taylor wasn't injured. Also, we got an absolute steal in Alleyne!!! Brady & Sim looked like Freshmen, great at one moment, not so great at others. However, they are both future stars here.

Very troublesome was the performance of Jenkins/Ledlum/Zuby. They should have dominated Pace but did not. We are very thin at PG, we need Daniss to bring it each and every game. Ledlum was possibly gassed, he played 34 minutes and did have 12 rebounds but offensively he struggled mightily. Zuby did have 8 rebounds/7 blocks but when you can't hit a FT, then you need to practice, it's all about repetition and muscle memory.

Part of me wants to believes CRP wanted to play end of bench guys (Drissa played 17 minutes, Conway played 24 minutes, Brady played 21 minutes... ) not only because he had no other choice but to see how they would react in a real game situation.

We are lucky to have CRP as a coach. He'll analyze the game, make adjustments and practice/teach them to death this week. Not to worry, all will be well, we'll get healthy and destroy the Sea Wolves.

Onto the real games!!!

Shooting 34 of 40 didn't help. I'm sure if we only shot 30% (instead of 15%) that would have been and additional 12 points. Hitting free throw would have added to that......................But the point been, they should have handled Pace.

I remember that one and it shouldn't be lost on anyone that Syracuse played man defense for that entire game, which goes to show that these exhibition games are where coaches experiment with different lineups and ideas instead of treating them like actual meaningful games. It doesn't necessarily excuse the poor play yesterday, but it's clear he was definitely tinkering with some things instead of just trying to win the game.

Also, while their opponents were clearly a step above ours, both #1 Kansas and #4 Michigan State lost exhibition games yesterday to Illinois and Tennessee, respectively.

As others have stated. If we look this way against Stony Brook, then I'll be concerned. That said, to get so many players to blend together and play as one unit, it's going to take some time. We definitely have the right coach to do it, but this is a team that's probably going to be all over the place the first couple months of the season.
Thanks for the comic relief. Illinois and Tennessee are a “step above” Pace. LMAO

If this game counted, I think the team would have pulled out a win.

For example, maybe Zuby doesn’t play all those late minutes because he could not hit any free throws. Pitino may have kept Zuby in as a way of allowing him to work through it in a game situation.

Another, there comes a point in a game where the more talented team just plays a few minutes of “street ball” and lets its athletic superiority win a game. Everyone is aware nothing within the system is working, so they just do what is required to win.

Even though the team wanted to win, there is a natural tendency not push as hard because it is ultimately an exhibition.

Things will be just fine. And if Stony Brook takes us lightly because of this performance, even better. 😉

I’m sorry, but This maybe one of the most pathetic 10 page stretches of posts I may have ever red here.

Wasting any time analyzing a meaningless scrimmage is a bit much.

The only two takeaways from someone who was in attendance is the end of bench got some minutes and thankfully NOBODY else got hurt. When Zuby fell hard on his tailbone, it was scary.

Can’t wait for Stoney Brook on the 7th.

Most posters were very sensible and humorous about Pace game. It is a message board not a sanctuary lol On to the regular season!

LOL...An analysis of your misuse of the English language might be more appropriate...red or read? Stoney Brook or Stony Brook?

Just be happy the game wasn't televised. Then the rest of us who live in other states could have been chiming in with our 2 cents worth of knowledge as well.
