Orlando Sanchez

nothing yet i give up . he wont be elgible i am beyond pissed there no way this should take this long. i mean they must know its a done deal or we would have heard by now. oh well at least it looking more and more like lawrence is ours. but thats it im done looking at this thread truly frustrated.

I think the school already knows that he is ineligible and will never play for us. I further think they have taken the position that they will just not say anything and as each day passes, the story will quietly go away. I don't pretend to understand it, but there are too many people, not to know something.

Then why is he sticking around? He's a SR. The school is trying to reverse the decision. How long before he gets fed up? Anyone's guess.

Could be he'd like to get his degree (for free, no less). As a 24-year-old, he might very well value an education more than some 18-year-old who's fixated on the NBA.

the point is why was the media not told he was ruled inelgible in the first place . for all we know he was probably ruled inelgible again and we are here hoping for something that already happened based on how it went the first time .

The longer this goes on the more I think St. John's is just banging its head against a brick wall,
Nov: NCAA rules Orlando ineligible
Later in Nov: St Johns sends in some paper work and says "what about now?" NCAA: "no"
Dec: St. John's sends in more paper, and asks "what about now?" NCAA: "no"
Jan: STJ sends another package. "What about now?"

... And I have a pretty good idea what the NCAA is going to say this time (if they haven't responded to SJU already)
I'd bet there is an office in Indianapolis laughing every time they get a FedEx from St Johns, and thinking "What part of ineligible do they have trouble understanding in NY?"

I never really understood what Orlando's problem was.. Whether it was his age, and being too far remove from HS, or if it was his status as an amateur bc he may have played on a semi pro team..... But whatever it is, I think it's obvious he's ineligible.

I hope I'm proven wrong, and tomorrow there is a 20 page thread about how he's on a flight to Chicago, but I seriously doubt that's the next chapter in this story.

Well he's a SR in eligibility and needs 2 yrs at least I'm willing to say more being that he's a foreign student. So not like riding out the year will get him a diploma.

Not trying to suggest anything unethical, but, in the event he (or someone like him) was given an academic scholarship of some sort, could he "walk on"? In that case would he still need to be declared "eligible"?

He would. It's all about being eligible to play collegiate sports, pass the clearinghouse as they say. Walkon, scholarship player, doesn't matter. He needs to meet the same requirements as a nonscholarship player , say the last girl on the women's cross country team who pays her own way to go to school.

At least that's my understanding.

Thank you Miguel, and welcome aboard! Every now and then I try to say something that makes sense. You'll see though that more often than not I fail lol. Nice profile picture, congratulations.
