Orlando Sanchez

people are now expecting him to be Walter Berry or something.

Hyperbole.... I think several people who has seen him play believes he can help the Johnnies, at some point, this season. He is a skillful player, as he'll probably be one of our better ballhandlers and, possibly, the best passer (on the team) once he hits the floor.

Ok, but even so, say he is a 15 and 7 guy which would be awesome! Does it warrant this much specualtion 17 games into a season in which even with him we will be lucky to make the NIT? At this point you have to joke about this no?

Actually, I'm not even sure I would call him a 15 and 7 guy. Maybe, a 12 and 7 guy.

By the way, the joking of the situation doesn't bother me. The bigger joke is the NCAA, but that horse has been beaten to death.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sanchez averaged something like nine points a game last year in JC, rIght? What makes people think that he'll be a consistent double digit scorer at this level, particularly given that he's already missed over half the season?

Please post me. The NCAA has taken heat on this board for lack of verdict regarding Sanchez eligibility. I thought I read a while back that they had ruled him ineligible. True or not. Thanks.

He would have a positive impact like Justin Brownlee did a few years ago. JB was not much of a scorer as a Juco either, but was a multi dimensional player like Sanchez. Probably a moot point though.

You make a good point. But here is the counter.... He played with a backcourt who never met a shot they didn't like (I saw this much from the two games I watched Monroe in the NJCAA Tournament). He also played on a fairly, deep team, and seemed to often defer.

I also believed it was newsman who spoked with either Sanchez's head coach or assistant coach at Monroe, and the coach felt Sanchez was capable of scoring more, but played within the framework of the team. He was very unselfish.

I remembered his numbers at Monroe, and figured he would be asked to score more with the Johnnies, hence why I felt he could, possibly, average 12ppg. Unfortunately, we may never get a chance to find out.

True on Sanchez, he is an excellent all around player and an outstanding passer. Very unselfish.

In one of our early season games the color play by play man said he talked to a high ranking member of the Utah Jazz who told him Sanchez would be the starting center for the team if he was a pro already.

Who cares how much he would average?

He's a matchup nightmare and has an 'adult' frame which many Big East players wouldn't be able to guard.

Earl Watson.

And he didn't say starting "Center".

He said he'd be a starter but that's just Earl talking him up. Something UCLAers are good at.

Adding 12 and 7 would be fantastic as he would be trying to fit in on a team mid season and would have to play like 30 minutes per to achieve those numbers which would be pretty tough joining the team this late.

Isn't Sanchez like 6'9? Seems awfully small to be a starting NBA Center. I wonder if this was the same "high ranking" executive who expressed interest in Nuri.

In all seriousness though, I hope Sanchez plays for us and turns out to be phenominal. Given his JC stats, and more importantly, the fact that most of the signs are pointing to him never playing, I think we're all pipe dreaming. Hope I eat my words big time!

Or drafted Frederick Weis as the Knicks #1 draft pick

Think we should stop all the silly posts about Sanchez If we know somethong post it or if we.have something constructive to say about this important issue Otherwise the other junk serves no purpose We are all at the tips of our seat on this

Don't click the thread then. I guarantee that there will be a separate "Sanchez Eligible!" or "YES!" thread if it happens. You'll figure it out pretty quickly if he's cleared. Now stop being such a tight-ass and get off the edge of that seat.

My gut tells me a separate thread will be started tomorrow just in time for Chicago.

Did the team leave or we gonna pull a Marco and fly Orlando in after the team leaves?

For all those who had "sources," and said today will be Judgement Day....any word? Any news?

I'm going with tomorrow 2:30 p.m. EST.

Looks like you're as good as the Mayans at predicting the future.

The Mayans never claimed to be predicting the future.

Let's not get academic, LJSA. I think you know what I meant.

I work from home and lost track of the day. I meant Friday at 2:30 p.m.

There has been nothing but tea leave reading on Orlando from day one. And there aren't may leaves to read. So I may as well add my completely uninformed, non-insider opinion. The fact that the coach and staff are saying nothing and staying on their best behavior is telling. You keep quiet and hope for the best if you don't feel you have a strong case. Maybe they are hoping they catch a break. Maybe I am completely reading this wrong. Then again, no one seems to know anything anyway.

It's not entirely clear; because SJU has never gone into specifics about it publicly (and its possible they can't bc it's confidential). But from the Post and Zags stories, yes, he was ruled inelligible in November,

Orlando and SJU have been applying for a waiver of some sort based on hardships he faced.
And apparently the NCAA has asked them for more documentation and is taking its time ruling on the exception.
