Open Practice this Sunday oct 1

Understand that our fan base is trained for disappointment and to over analyze every little detail. However being concerned about today’s turnout shouldn’t be one of them. Per Mike Cragg, Full Season ticket sales are up over 70 percent over last year’s final numbers. Seven nationally televised regular season games on the docket. It’s a new day, don’t sweat the small stuff.
When you factor all the stuff in like 7 days of rain then the next day in 2 months and the fact it’s free I’m less annoyed. If you gave me free tix to a Mets game today I’m blowing it off. St John’s hell no but I get the mindset . Btw it wasn’t hot inside I had a vest on

Jordan will be fine. Neither the step up in talent nor the role definition will affect him. He's trying to be a leader, defer and help with cohesion. A lot will go into product that takes floor in 5 weeks. He knows this.
Agree- was there today and Dingle was deferring most of scrimmage. He will be fine.. Dingle, jenkins, luis, ledlum, joel will be starting 5.. Wilcher has huge upside and will make an impact this year. Need 3 to 4 others to step up.

The following comments/observations are from Zach Braziller re yesterday's practice:

What's up everyone. A few thoughts from today's open practice:

1. Best players, in my opinion, were Daniss Jenkins, RJ Luis, Chris Ledlum and Zuby Ejiofor. Jenkins really knows how to run a team. He had seven assists. Had a few very nice passes, including an assist on an alley-oop with Ejiofor from halfcourt. Luis is really smooth, can create his own shot and has great range. Ledlum had a sweet putback dunk.

2. Rick Pitino told me afterwards that if the season started today, Ejiofor and Ledlum would be starters. Jenkins likely would be as well. He loves Ejiofor's motor and physicality.

3. The scrimmage was choppy and loose, which is to be expected on Oct 1. Team i just getting used to one another. Pitino said they are still learning his system.

4. I'm a fan of Cruz Davis. He was around the ball a ton and has a good-looking lefty jumper. I wouldn't be shocked if he plays some this year.

5. Pitino used a number of different defenses. He pressed, he trapped in the half-court, he played man-to-man. There were a lot of different looks.

6. Joel Soriano had a quiet practice. He did hit a transition 3-pointer. He's going to take them, as we reported this spring.

Stats from the scrimmage: 13 points and eight rebounds for RJ Luis on 5-of-7 shooting. 12 for Sean Conway. 10 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block for Ejiofor. Chris Ledlum had six points, two assists, two steals and three rebounds. Joel Soriano had nine points and eight rebounds. Jordan Dingle with four points and three assists. Five points and five rebounds and a plus-10 rating for Cruz Davis.

Definitely was impressed with Chris. RJ and Zuby
Enjoyed listening to Pitino …..coach

I was impressed with many of the above mentioned but also with conway not just hitting the several baskets he made but overall game seemed more than advertised.
I agree about Conway
I believe Brady was highly touted also

Hearing about Pitino critizing the guy's defense and hustle in practice made me think of Anthony Edwards talking about Steve Kerr last week.

Not surprised that Zuby is a standout in that regard. I'm sure Bill Self requires a similar level of defense/hustle in practice and is a great motivator. But if you're coming from other programs there is sure to be some "culture shock".

Perhaps Rick is just pumping him up but I also noted when he signed that he (RP) really likes Ejiofor. Something to keep in mind when predicting playing time. He consistently mentions this kid.

Let’s agree, that at this point the players are learning what Coach is expecting of them, individually and as a team. Defense is a team sport. Let them learn and grow into the system.

For what it’s worth, we really need a guy like Ejiofor to difend athletic big guys inside. It’s invaluable considering our competition and Joel is more of an offensive post guy as is Ledlum. Soriano and Ledlum are going to be a nasty offensive 1-2 punch at the 4/5 while I suspect Zuby will get a lot of defensive time on athletic PF/C’s at the 4-5. Sprinkle Drissa in there as well.

Joel, Zuby, Ledlum are going to be like brick walls

They're not going to get pushed around.

my starting 5 after seeing them yesterday: Jenkins, RJ, Ledlum, Zuby, Joel

RJ is going to be nice. Has a sweet stroke and nice mid-range around the paint.

I think there’s no way that Dingle doesn’t start.
I was going to say the same. In all likelihood I see Jenkins, Dingle, Luis, Ledlum and Soriano and I think that’s set. That lineup has offensive firepower at every spot on the floor. I have no doubt Zuby will play a ton but he won’t knock Joel off the floor and won’t supplant an alpha-scorer and senior like Dingle who can put up look at extremely quickly. That said, we have an entire second team of guys who could probably start at most of these Big East programs. A second line up with any mix of Wilcher/Cruz, Alleyne, Dunlap, Zuby, Taylor, Conway would hold their own and all will push to get starting games at some point.

I think there’s no way that Dingle doesn’t start.

again, this is based on what i saw yesterday.

dingle was not aggressive at all.

i will also say, that having RP being candid is so refreshing. everything he's been saying throughout the last few weeks about the players has been absolutely true.

PS: Would any of the guys on last year's team crack the rotation?
