Open Practice this Sunday oct 1

Gotta think first nice Weekend day in a bit- people are going to be doing what they can outside (esp after all the rain)

impressions:
-Ledlum- wow... we got lucky to land him...He looks like he has that innate sense for the ball. We'll be real happy we have him.
-Luis... nice stroke- very smooth.

Other than those two... wasn't really blown away by anyone... was chasing a 4 and 16mo old around so could have missed stuff.

Sidenote... more than enough scares for a season... Zuby casually bumping Wilcher on a break-away dunk... Joel going down grabbing his knee...Ledlum going down hard... These kids will be more than ready for BE play lol.

Just got back

They started with a controlled scrimmage. Lots of stopping and teaching by all the coaches. Finished with a 20 minute scrimmage and a quick drill.

Jenkins is the point guard. He just commands the offense and doesn’t need to score. Luis has the talent to be the best player. Lot of 3 point shooting from everyone which I didn’t love. Zuby was solid. Ledlum is a monster. Looks like Soriano is being pushed by those 2. Wilcher has incredible potential. Potential I don’t remember seeing since Ponds/Lovett.

Team is definitely on the smaller side. Pitino wants to play transition basketball. He wants the big man posting up right away for a mismatch or quick 2. The offense will be a motion offense with a lot of cutting. Lots of talent. The key, outside of staying healthy, is when will the team gel and make the push. Right now it’s a work in progress. Defense will dictate who plays the most per Pitino.

I’d say Jenkins, Dingle, Luis, Ledlum and Soriano start.

Alleyne is going to score off the bench. Wilcher will play a lot IMO. Same with Zuby.
Attendance was on the smaller side. The autograph session was nice. My kids enjoyed meeting the players who were fantastic. I can’t say enough about how nice they were to the kids. Expectations are high. You feel it when you enter the building. Refreshing.

Conway looked good, made some outside shots and played hard- nosed d.
Dingle was a non- factor in the 20 minute scrimmage.
Dingle knows he has nothing to prove in practice, even against Stony Brook he'll probably just have a casual game.

Vs. Michigan @ MSG where the bright lights are blaring, he'll have a big game.

Did Pitino have the players practice full court press ?

Only one practice but Dingle may have some trouble transitioning to this level, Alleyne was basically invisible, Cruz looks like he belongs. Soriano will be a beast, Ledlum is going to be a handful, and Zuby can be any kind of player going forward. Standouts for me were Luis and Wilcher. Jenkins will be just fine at point.

Btw for autographs while I’m not an autograph guy my buddy’s son who is like 8 years aa and the team each and every one of them couldn’t have been nice to Joey not just signing but asking him questions. As we drove home that little 8 year old just became a fan for life

Cruz impressed me. Also side note great to see Idraft walking in with his lovely wife and as always awesome to hang with Panther,Happy,Eric and Redstormrising. Saw Beast and Ejoyce on the other side. What’s great about this stuff is Happy and Panther see soo many more things in a practice and scrimmage than the regular eye

You were walking up section 2 across from the visitors bench ?
Yup. When I walked in at 1 pitino was right in front of me shouting orders. The first hour from 1-2 was really the best part of the event. They should have made it more clear that it would be starting then.

You walked literally right past me . I’ll send you my cell on fb next time we can coordinate

I wouldn’t read too much into one practice. If there is one thing on this team I am confident in, it’s Dingle’s scoring. You have to get get to a comfort level with a new offense and defense where you aren’t thinking and just reacting.

I don’t think Alleyne has the game to stand out unless he’s getting a ton of open looks from his teammates.

Think Dingles biggest adjustment will be getting familiar with his new role, not necessarily the higher competition. There’s a different rhythm when you go from having the ultimate Green light to just a standard green light. An average look was something he probably never needed to pass up at Penn. he knew it and his teammates knew it.

With more talent around him he’ll have to both adjust his own shot selection and get comfortable with teammates expecting more touches themselves.
