Off Season Tidbits

I do not know how to attach files, but there is a picture of Willie Mays playing stickball with the kids in Harlem during his time with the NY Giants that is absolutely amazing.

2011: With a roster that featured 10 seniors, @SteveLavin64 led the Red Storm to its first tourney appearance in more than a decade. #SJUBB defeated six top-15 teams, including memorable MSG wins against Duke, UConn, Pitt and Georgetown.

Bobby Thompson and The Miracle of Coogan's Bluff!!!
Was also the last game of the regular season not a playoff.
Ashburn was not known for his throwing arm. My dad talked about this loss often.

Fun Facts:
Just came across this baseball nugget. In 1968, Bob Gibson made 34 starts and had 28 complete games. He was pinch hit for 6 times. He was never removed off the mound. His ERA for the season was 1.12.

This explains why baseball has lost my interest. Fair to mediocre players are getting paid 10 million a year.

What's a complete game? :)
Just an amazing season. Pitched 8 (!) shutouts in June and July and followed up with a 17 K performance in Game 1 of the World Series, but lost Game 7. Maybe the best World Series I ever watched that did not involve the Yankees.

He and Denny McClain were so dominating that it led to rules changes to favor hitters in 1969.

And , he wasn’t bashful about protecting his idea of the Plate and Strike Zone. He had 251 wins in his career and was a 9 inning Pitcher who also had over 3000 strike outs . You don’t get those stats by Pitching 6 Innings and taking a seat in the Dugout . Tom Seaver , much like Gibson , was a 9 Inning Strike our Pitcher too! Tom Terrific has 311 Wins and over 3000 Strike outs too! You have to throw a high pitch count to be 3000 strike out Pitcher . Hank Aaron said , Nobody liked to go up against Seaver or Gibson . They made you look like you didn’t belong at Bat . Nasty ? Both had Stuff that could make you cry !

interesting that he could have star potential even though he wasn't a 4 star. didn't think that was possible
Not possible. Fake news. ;)

Brings back memories. In my senior year I went up against a kid named Hughes from Power Memorial for the Catholic High School foul shooting contest and lost. It was held just before the Catholic High School Championship in Brooklyn between Power Memorial and Bishop Loughlin. No excuse but Hughes did have a few fans to cheer him on..

Chris Mullin
Walter Berry
Mark Jackson
Sonny Dove
George Johnson

Honorable Mention: Malik Sealy

All worthy

Those who saw Tony Jackson play (he was just before my time) might argue he should be on that list somewhere but I agree all 6 mentioned very worthy.
