Off Season Tidbits

Great to hear insight on players from everyone. As Paultz, Logen and others have said, there is absolutely no way of knowing how anyone other than LJ and Must are going to perform this year. We can rationalize that player will be successful in myriad ways(IE he bulked up, he lost weigh, he’s practicing with more intensity, he was a JC AA, etc etc), but at the end of the day until we see a kid on the court in game conditions, there is no way of knowing how he’ll do. Like everyone, hoping Dunn is the 3rd scorer, GW takes a big step forward, Steere is a low post presence and Caraher is the dead eye shooter that we need. I’m still expecting that we’ll finish at or near the bottom of the league. My only expectation is that this team plays hard and unified for 40 minutes every game and, win or lose, we enjoy watching them play.

Yes i actually had to look it up he looked totally different from last year body and hair cut.

I suppose, it is easy to put Caraher in the "deadeye 3 point shooting specialist" role but from what I have heard he is not at all that. My understanding is he is a legitimate 3 point threat but not lights out by any means; but a much more all around player that can create, pass, and rebound. Further, I think Coach was very candid with him that if he expected to get a chance to do those things at this level he better get in seriously better shape, which he did. Will he be able to do those things in the BE? Well, he came here to find out and we will find out along with him.

game video of him is not a guy who runs to a spot to take a shot. I would not call him uber athletic but not flat footed, runs the floor and maybe more athletic than might first assume. He held his own against a pretty good vtech team.

Off an old Evan Daniels tweet, following his decision to transfer from Huston Baptist, Caraher heard from 18 schools--mostly mid major but included TN, Oklahoma State, and Nevada (Musselman). And again he was a Butler commit at one point.
He's my 'gut pick' for Johnny surprise of the year.

I really hope you're right and that he's not Max Hooper 2.0

Hooper couldn't get off the bench at an Ivy, and there were people here who thought he'd be able to make an impact. Up until a short while ago I had zero confidence that Caraher would do anything here, but he's still 10x the player Hooper was.

I only watched fewer than the final 5 minutes of the scrimmage, but from what I of him, I wasn't impressed. But as with everyone other than LJ and Heron, we'll see.

Maybe being dynamic is overrated. Maybe being a good basketball player requires more important skills than being dynamic. Maybe too many fans are enamored by the dynamic. Just maybe.

I don’t think LJSA meant anything bad by using the term « dynamic » to describe Ponds game. He could have used a multiple of terms to describe Ponds. He also could have said the highest rat d high school player since Rysheed. Either way he would have been correct. Bottom line is Ponds is short by NBA standards and that is by far his biggest limitation. If he doesn’t go to Europe finishing college and getting a degree would have been the better path.

His size limitation is an impediment but not a deal breaker. His lack of quickness and outside shooting really hurt him. Chris Clemons is 5’9”, was not drafted as well, but made the team.

Loved the kid when he was here but he's not an NBA caliber player. Inconsistent shooter and a poor defender. Would have liked to see him with a coaching staff that actually coached.

If he had a better cast of players around him he would have shined more brightly but in the end he was not a nba talent . Again , with the right team he would have been a heck of a player on a final 4 team Let’s thank him for coming to our school
