Off Season Tidbits

Well, Sears--adjusting for the 'doo'-- looks as tall as Steere and Roberts and is listed as 6'7" versus their 6'9" postings; and Champagnie looks like a 'shorter' 6'7"-er than Damien, lol.
Let's go Redmen!
My initial thought once I heard that Dunn could play the point was that we'd go with him and Williams in the backcourt, and Heron, Figueroa, and Steere in the front court once second semester rolls around.

But I recently went from thinking Caraher would never do anything here due to foot speed to not being shocked if he starts at SF, with Williams coming off bench. Amazing what losing 25 pounds will do for someone's outlook.
definitely a testament to the kid and the new staff with their conditioning

I have zero doubt that Caraher can shoot it when open. Unfortunately, we've seen this type of player before with Hooper, Borgault, Freudenberg etc. they come in as specialists but rarely are quick enough to keep up at this level and it's very tough for them to get open. I totally acknowledge I have a negative bias on this because of the other similar players I mentioned. I'm sure he will get better and better and truly hope he does, but I'm going to remain very cautiously optimistic with him. He looked like he was in slow motion playing with the other guys at tip off last year. Hope he can succeed where the other guys failed.
I thought a couple posters who saw the STH practice Sunday raved about how Caraher could shoot 'all over the court' and also when under pressure and that he also had a nice touch underneath,
The weight loss and muscle gain may have unleashed his potential for Big East play.
In fairness to Mike’s post, proof will be “in the pudding”. With that said, the 3 players cited were all stationary shooters. Caraher moves and shoots with people in his face,

Feels like some folks are underestimating Greg Williams. After Heron and LJ, I think he plays the 3rd most minutes on this team. I see him playing both the 1 and the 2.

I have a hunch he will shoot the rock better than Dunn, Rutherford, and McGriff; and can handle the ball sufficiently.
Of course, we all know he is explosive to the basket.

I will check it out. I am not surprised.......Dad is a great follow on Twitter. Very positive and patient about the program.

I'm also high on GW's potential but don't know what to expect this season. I'm curious: have you seen him play/practice in the off-season or got word from guys who have? He's also been injured recently. I luv the kid's explosiveness to the basket and his D, but can he shoot the rock? I thought that was a part of his game he had to improve.
Again, I would not be surprised if GW performs as you say JF--I just don't know what to legitimately expect from the kid this Season...and that goes for a few others on the team as well, including Dunn, Rutherford, Sears, Champagnie, Roberts, Earlington, and McGriff.
I am constructive about this team but we shall see.
Let's go Redmen.

What's up CD. No, I have not seen GW at all during the offseason or practice. I was just impressed by the admittedly small sample size during his freshmen year. My perspective is that he is a very coachable, super athlete. Also think he has a good looking stroke and will, ultimately, be a solid shooter. Just my gut.

Fair enough JF. The kid is uber-athletic. He'd be a exciting piece to add to Figgy and Mustapha.
I know the Board will be rooting hard for the kid and team.

Bottom line is, with the exception of Mustapha & LJ, none of us have seen enough of a sample size to know how these guys will perform this year. Williams is the one guy besides LJ & Mustapha who showed real talent last year. No reason to think he won't take a step forward this year.

Love this kid's potential, but apparently he has chronic back problem. We'll see how things turn out ...

I’m with Logen & in waiting mode on any of new guys, knowing all the plaudits are based on practicing v teammates. Love Caraher’s attention to detail, response to coaching and conditioning. That said, playing v real competition is true litmus test. Once fell into trap waiting for Freudenberg to be a solid piece of puzzle and ... The French “shooter”, Bourgault, likewise. Time will tell.

Nothing to do with this years team but didn’t know where to put this one.

New guy I just met at work who is from Hempstead. I overheard him talking ST Johns basketball with one of my colleagues. His brother and His good friend played for Hempstead and went on to play college b-ball. I walked over and said oh yea? Give me names. His brother Played for our team, Malik Stith. I said of course I remember him. And his friend Tu Holloway who starred at Xavier while still in the A-10. Remember him as well. Put up nice numbers at Xavier. I said why didn’t he stay home and come to Sju? Who knows if he was even offered but he said he wanted to go away.
Was pretty cool talking sju hoops with him and his brothers experience there. Says his brother played a little overseas but seemed to always deal with injuries. He is working as a behavioral health counselor now. Tu Holloway still playing overseas in Lithuania.

Agreed...I see him making an impact if they get him off the ball and he's wide open. Unfortunately like we saw with the other guys, they are often not used to how quickly Big East players can close out on them. By the way, at this point with our bigs situation, I'd take Jessica Turberry.

I thought Steere was 6'9" looks like Sears is taller and he's 6'7. and Roberts looks the same height but looks like he put on some nice weight.....
