Off-season talk

Wouldn't Justin have to sit out  one season if he tramsfers ?

If so, he would likely never play with Julian since next season may be Julian's last college season.

Not if as anticipated by many (not just on this Board) the free one time transfer rule for next season where you can transfer one time and immediately be eligible.

I'm shocked that some posters expect Roberts here next season.

It seems like I'm in the minority, but I expect a purge. I think Roberts is gone. I think Cole is gone. I think Earlington is gone. I think McGriff is gone. Up until recently I thought Moore was a lock to come back, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm trying to keep a level head, but if Justin actually 1) left Pitt, and 2) came here, I think we'd get a talented big man observing what was forming and decide to come aboard as well. It would be the most talented team here in years . . . but again, trying to keep a level head and not get my hopes up.

Agree Robert's not a Big East player, not an offensive threat. But to think that pushing out 5 players in one offseason from a winning team is a desired result is absurd!

Roberts may have performed below expectations because he had not fully recovered from his shoulder surgery.

Any kid who leaves is likely leaving to play more minutes at a lower level school. Can't begrudge them that, now that the option is being presented to them. At the same time, there will be plenty of kids looking to move up to a higher level. So my feeling is that even if there is some movement, we'll come out better off from it.

The flaw with this is Anderson system takes time to learn so having so much turnover can have us back to square one.

My perfect off season would be one where we don't complain about the players, suggest who should be transferring and who isn't good enough, etc.

The players, recruits and their families read or hear about all these conversations and it doesn't help, in fact it is counter-productive.

I would have liked to see them win a game in the NCAA Tourney. That said, they overachieved and have to be happy w the season. Hope they make the NIT, still want to watch the team play.

The Justin Champagnie talk is interesting. I don't think that it will actually happen but until someone (one of the twins, Capel/Anderson or parents) say it's not happening, it is in play and extremly intriguing. Pitts defections have really harmed their opportunity to have a succesful season next year and Justin is in the position where he's probably a 2nd rounder (maybe late first) who, if he stays would be looking for one more good season to establish himself. He's only 6'6 and not as good of a 3 point shooter as his brother. I can see NBA teams not being too sure what to do with him and it's not crazy to think he could slip down or off the board. We all know it happens to a few guys every year.

The thing that gives me pause is I remember in that interview Fanta did with both of them Julian mentioned how seperating was the best thing for them. Do they still enjoy and see value in being able to continue to thrive on their own and each "be the man" on their own teams or do they want to do something together for maybe the last time? Another thing to think about is Justin's relationship with Capel. They're high character kids and a sense of loyalty could factor in. I don't know anything about Pitt but if he was going to jump ship wouldn't he do it around the same time all the other guys were? So it feels like a longshot to me but the fact that it's not an unreasonable topic of conversation certainly isn't a bad thing.

The context was the split was good so each could develop on their own. Be their own player/person so to speak. Now that both are all league talent respectively, I believe it's not out of the realm of possibilities that they entertain playing together.

I expect Pitt to retool in the transfer market. Not sure if it's enough to keep Justin

Exactly

Kids moving down are more likely to succeed at lower level (ex. Trimble) than a a high performer at lower level moving up (ex. Toro, Sears, Caraher, Dixon etc.).
We had good luck with Dunn and to a lesser degree Rutherford.

Its a crapshoot to me in moving up/down conference levels.

I'll take my chances with 1 or 2 more skilled newcomers

It's all a crap shoot. Whether it's High School, JC or lower level kids coming to play at this level.  Plenty of lower level kids have moved up and had success at this level.

What is remarkable is that Champ did not score a pt for the last 15.25. Mins,at least that what I hear

He didn't score for the last 15.25 of regulation or in O.T. for a total of 20.25 minutes

With transfers from smaller conferences (Patriot, MAAC, Northeast even A-10 really) I prefer guys like Dunn who have put up actual numbers and played the majority of their teams minutes to guys (like Toro) who were injured or had limited minutes for whatever reason but "project" well when you look at their numbers over a full 40 or whatever other mental gymnastics we do to convince ourselves they can hang in the Big East.

The guy can't have just high production (like Caraher at Houston Baptist) or size/strength/potential (like Toro) Need both. They don't need to get the same 17 and 10 that they averaged at Gardner-Webb or wherever but at least you know that when it's actual game time, they have a history of showing up and making themselves part of the action.

Denzel Mahoney a prime example of a kid who successfully made the move up. Like Dunn, another kid who has the size and physicality to play at this level, as well as skills. They're out there, gotta find them.

Moore " says he has a "Big announcement " coming soon then he is going "ghost"....on his Instagram story. Not sure what the means as far as his plans. Hope he comes back. He is also "selling some SJU gear"
