Off-season talk

Ouch. Really liked what he gave us the last couple of weeks.

something went wrong during that last regular season game against seton hall and I guess it went off the rails from there

The NCAAs ridiculous plan of allowing everyone to transfer with immediate eligibility will have hundreds of college coaches pulling their hair out and if they go through with the plan they better put a reasonable ending date of this stupid idea or coaches won't know all summer who they will have suiting up in the fall.
eventually this will likely be true but this rule change was delayed again

If true about Moore, it's unfortunate for the team . He contributed significantly in his time here , had good skills , could shoot and was a spark offensively .. Never seemed he and CMA were on the same page .  I'm sure he didn't like his banishment to the Bench during last Saturday's win vs SH . Good luck to him . He's from Columbia , SC. where Univ of SCarolina is located ., I think he wanted to get Starter minutes and Mike didn't think so .

Techically when the thread was started it wasn't offically offseason because we were going to accept an NIT bid. /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

Somebody needs to tell barstool to credit Making Plays with being first on the scoop.  I knew something was up with Moore's situation it was just getting too weird.  He gets bench and only plays 3 minutes, no explanation, then all of a sudden he just happens to be the only guy affected by contact tracing with no other details.  Yea right...  As my father-in-law would say that dog don't hunt.

Not sure it's "unfortunate" if he wasn't a team player and flaked out when we needed him entering the Big East tourney.  How much did he help us this year? I liked his skill-set for sure and thought we really needed him entering the BET. That said, he wasn't there and we lost.  Didn't help us much get to our goal and now is transferring.  Hopefully staff uses this to bring in even bigger talent. All we can hope.

As disappointed as I was with the SH loss, I was looking forward to possibly watching the Redmen play some meaningful postseason games in the NIT.  So I get on this Forum late on a Saturday night, and all hell seems to have broken loose.

Possibly no NIT, with Coach and AD maybe not on the same page.

Hundreds of posts about kids leaving and transferring from the program, core kids we need to keep, getting off to a slow start again next season, etc., etc.

Players tweeting and IG'ing and fans trying to understand what they are all really saying.

So disheartening.  All the good feeling I had ending as quickly as it began.

Such is the life of a St. John's basketball fan!!

We had a player decide to transfer. It is what it is. Our fanbase has a tendency to be a little dramatic though. Gonna be a long offseason of fans begging for us to get every big man that announces he's transferring lol

definition of purge
"an abrupt removal of a group of people"
"remove (a group of people considered undesirable) from an organization or place in an abrupt or violent way"

Your choice of words, not mine, I'm just reading what you wrote. Glad you didn't mean purge!

Again:

Remember that the purpose of this site, as spelled.out in the site rules, is to support the school and the program, which includes the players and the coaches.  Posts that call for players to transfer or that speculate about whether players should transfer and why, etc, are directly contrary to the site rules.

If you want to discuss potential transfers IN, or team needs, or what development you hope/expect to see, go for it.

There are many outlets where you can put the rest of your thoughts if they are not consistent with why we are here.  There is absolutely no question that over the years some of the negative commentary here has had an adverse impact on the program, and since we all want the program to succeed, retain good players and bring in more, it is important that such a situation NOT repeat.

Thanks

With all due respect.  As a former moderator I know how difficult it is to keep everyone in check.  We all can fly off the handle at some time or another.  I also know as a private site we owe a great deal of thanks to Paul, yourself and the other mods for having this place we can discuss something we clearly all love.

But I know if we can't talk about possible departures this place will become boring and stale pretty quickly.  Also as someone with ties to the athletic dept I think any adverse effects are very much overblown. There are staff members who post here and others who use posters as a medium.  At minimum one site exists like this for every big time college basketball/football team.  And yes now the wild west of Twitter exists.

While I'm not advocating someone should be starting a thread entitled Player X Should Transfer ASAP.  I think Stevie Wonder can see where certain players played so few minutes or limited roles that it's fair and civil to have that discussion.  If I'm off base I guess we agree to disagree but I would ask that then maybe the Game Threads be monitored more closely or even abolished.  They are a cesspool with constant rips on players in the heat of the moment sure.  But just because the game is over and the thread is locked does that change what was said within?  Some food for thought.

That's totally fair, Moose.  The issue is the situation you point to in your last paragraph - it is not useful to have a thread or threads that begin with "these 5 guys should transfer or be pushed out."  That's just not useful.

Seriously? A bunch

i meant at the end of  the season when we needed him most.  We were 1 and out in the BET, and probably IMO would have advanced a round or two with him because we needed him.

As a Player , there should not be any doubt that Moore contributed to the performance of this team and the success it enjoyed .  His  not playing  in the BE game against the Hall was felt . .  Whether he would hsve made a difference in changing the OT loss is the unanswerable question .  He had a knack for getting the lob for dunks in many games and he could hit the jumper  from the Corner . And , despite our weaknesss on the offensive boards , he might have grabbed a few rebounds for put backs .
