Obekpa's Next Move

Passport time

I agree with you completely but wish to state, and I am unaware of the reasons for his requested transfer, his best move is to crawl back on his hands and knees and ask Coach Mullin and the AD to be part of the team going forward and be kept on a very short leash. Both parties could benefit.

I happen to agree with you. My biggest concern in that scenario is whether or not CO has the maturity level to accept the error of his ways and to actually follow through on whatever commitment he makes to Chris and his teammates. Granted he'd have a very very very short leash, but the last thing we need is an episode during the season after CO has an established roll on the team. Guess I'm somewhat on the fence.

I completely agree.

No risk for the staff, as they will hold all the leverage and can cut ties if he ever falls out of line.

The risk is that he can be toxic to the rebuilding effort. Something doesn't smell right and I'm not talking about the mary jane. The fact that none of his initial suitors took barely a sniff at him (pun intended) is rather strange. After all, he is a rim protector and guaranteed to be top 5 in blocks in the country. I doubt all college coaches found religion this summer. Where there's smoke (pun intended) there's fire. Even if he begged on bended knee, I wouldn’t take him back. I do hope he learns from his past transgressions and develops into a mature and productive man.

Mullin was involved with the pro game long enough to know that it doesn't take much to poison a team and its locker room.

Absolutely the right move. He is too unpredictable and not a team player.

Why are we still discussing this guy? He's not coming back. After what he said, and after what the fans think about him, why would Coach take him or want him back? Who wants that loser and his distractions? Further, who the hell cares what his next move is? As long as it's not back here.

What did he say? I must have missed it.

Actually, what I meant was what it said in that New York Post article, where he alluded to the fact that he didn't want to have anything to do with Mullin's strict rules, and holding people accountable to their actions.

We are still discussing him because like it or not, he was still once part of our program, and had a very big impact on our program....

How many times are you going to let a guy quit and come back? He's already quit 4 times at least by my count. Announcing he wasn't coming back for his junior season, quitting on teammates during the BET and not caring if we won or lost, not caring that drug use could cost us the season, and quitting again now.

Pass.

His biggest impact was a negative one -- he quite possibly cost us the game against SDSU.

The sad part about Obekpa is that he will be at the top of many SJU and Big East statistical categories for decades--perhaps forever. His blocked shots stats were out of this world. All he had to do was man-up and be a mature team player in 2015-2016, and he could have won everyone over and would have been remembered fondly. The kid had Harrison to emulate. We couldn't play a single game without that story being mentioned three times.

Sima, for as good as he could be, doesn't seem to have the type of game to even threaten those #s. Perhaps Bol Bol in 2019 :) Not a single letter in either of his names is not found in the word block.
