Obekpa Suspended

I have said it on this site before, and have received criticism for it. But I am saying again today. Obekpa is an idiot! Suspend him, cut him, let him go wherever he wants, just get him and his dopey "I didn't do anything" smile the heck out of here!

That same smile applies to the coach ech time we lose and he cracks a smile to the opposing head coach who just drilled us.

Clean house.

Name one alumni of this university that is not steaming at this moment.

Get rid of all of them.

Give the committed recruits and current scholarship players a chance to look of for their best interests for a change.

@ Avon re #1: Does anyone really think SJU without its only big body is one of the best 68 teams? I don't. And, the few bubble teams that are at full strength have all worked hard and have kids deserving to go.

Happily for SJU, it is probably too late to take them out, so I will be rooting for them to win, but it is possible that they could be embarrassed. Or, they could rally. IN any event, it doesn't change the embarrassment of the state of the program and this drama that continues over and over and over again.

Does this all but seal it, that Obekpa is gone after the season?

I wouldn't say the door is completely closed, but close.

It could conceivably result in his return. Rather than finish his college career under an ominous cloud Obekpa may have to come back ( à la DLo) to vindicate himself and clean the slate before attempting to move up.

What a f***Ing joke this program is, from the AD to the coach to the players. So much drama, so many poor performances when it really matters. Who cares what happens at announcement time. This team was going nowhere for sure. Time to clean house on the Men's BB side and start over. It's the opportune time to since next year is a wash anyway. Give someone else a chance to clean up this god awful mess once and for all.

He's done.

He embarassed the university on one of its proudest days.

He's not getting a free trip to Maui.

not sure of the answer if we end up winning a game. Regardless I'll be rooting for Buffalo as a backup plan just in case

Lunardi on ESPN2 just said they may drop at most 1 line if at all.

I had a pretty good feeling it wouldn't cost us a bid, I mean the bubble is extremely weak this year, and we weren't even close to being on the bubble. So I can't see us being booted altogether. It's also not like Obekpa is widely considered our best player or even one of our best. I know he's our main big guy, but not sure if the committee breaks it down that deeply

But what does it matter really? We just dug another big hole & brought more negative attention to ourselves.

Of course it's horrible news, but would you rather just pack it in and not go to the tournament at all? Sure it looks bleak but I still want our guys there and will root them on regardless. Anything can happen
Just venting. Embarrassment & disgust with program trumping NCAA Game frankly. Been rabid fan since Lou C took the job & just don't care much about this now. Sorry, enjoy the announcement & game.

Hey man, I totally understand. I took days off from work and had a road trip planned with my brother, cousin and close friend to our first round site. Now, after this news, that trip is off. I'm extremely disappointed. However I try to just take these things in stride and just make the best of it. That's life, out of our control, have to find some way to just be happy
No gun to my head man. Life is good.

Win a game? They should give our spot to a team that can compete with more than 5 players. i love SJU but I am disgusted. They will rank us 11th-12th

I'll be the first to admit I wear rose-colored glasses when it comes to SJU hoops.

Ever since the Pittsburgh incident, we seem determined to err on the side of caution - holding our guys to the highest possible standard of behaviour.

If anything, we seem to want to be the NCAA's model of good and right and self-discipline. Tough for them to punish us in the tournament seedings for that.

And, yes, I believe even without CO we belong in the top 64.

why because the Hurley family has been so loyal to the johnnies over the years? Please, let him go coach Rutgers or wait for a Duke opening. No thanks, pass.

They are in the field. It doesn't matter if Chris is suspended. Are they one of the best 68? Probably not but the bubble is so bad I can make an argument against all of the teams there getting in.

I really think this is it for Lavin, and that is fine with me. I didn't care either way with this program. Sadly, apathy set in last year.

But let's not forget to slam Obekpa for being an absolutely gigantic piece of garbage for doing whatever he did to get suspended on the eve of the most important day of his college basketball career.

I think this increases the odds that President Gemepshaw decides to "clean house", and install an athletic director that he has vetted, and a coach whom he has signed off on.

I have no inside knowledge, but that seemed to be a possibility all along. This can only increase the odds. But, I imagine, all options (including an extension) are still on the table.

I don't think Hurley would be high as some think on the next Duke coach depth cart. He's not directly part of K's coaching tree, although he could slap the floor with the best of them.
