NY YANKEES - 2021

Whatever you think of the team this year, you have to admit, these were three exciting games with Toronto.

My ideal Yankees game, is when they score 10 first inning runs, and continue to add on the rest of the game.  But, my second choice are exciting back and forth games, with lots of lead swings, and changes of momentum.  We certainly had a lot of that this week.

We came back in the late innings, made big plays defensively, hit some big home runs, and took advantage of Toronto's mistakes.  We also had some dumb luck on our side, but frankly, this team needed that.

Great catch by Judge.  Even when he jumped, I didn't think he had a chance, because I thought the ball was just hit too far.  Then, two batters into the next inning, we take the lead right back on a no doubter by Stanton.  Sequences like that were the key to this sweep.  Every time it looked like Toronto would take command, we grabbed it right back.

game 69.
it must be in taillon's dna to give up a getty every time out.
the game turned on one at bat.
lefty peralta versus lefty kemp. kemp is down 0 and 2. a few pitches later , a 3 run homer.
you could turn your emerson radios off then.
gardy covers as much ground as anyone in baseball, but must have the weakest arm in mlb.
the ump took the game away from all the hitters, it was one of the largest strike zones ever.

thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhe yankees win. down 3 at one time.
beat the hottest team in baseball, the hottest team in june, the al west leader, the best record in the al.
clutch hit by dj. getty by kraken - cbpoy.
boone gets tossed watching 2 crappy ball calls on same batter by the hump in the 9th.
yes. yankee ace gets rocked again.
yes. 3 innings in a row, a man in scoring position is stranded.
there was 11 hits and 5 walks and they beat a very good team.

Another Yankees starter can't get through the 5th inning. Finally get back in the game and they give it right back. Such a bad team, and so difficult to watch. They had leadoff runners on early, and hit into a DP. Frazier leads off the 5th with a double,  Gardner strikes out, and DJLM ground out. Judge strikes out. Nothing. Pathetic. Next inning, again. They can't get a hit with a runner on 2nd. Another leadoff double by Frazier in 7th. Gardner pops out. Just move a friggin runner along. Ground out by DJLM. Finally a hit by Judge. Such a winnable game. Stanton with a big chance and he comes through. Finally. Torres does not. Gio with the 8th inning homer. Can the Yanks hold on? DJLM with the hit for addon runs. But bad baserunning once again getting picked off. More drama with Chapman. Yanks survive. Cortes the MVP.

game 71.
kraken = cbpoy.
theres one, theres two, theres three.
thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhe yankeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees win.

How many triple plays have the Bombers turned this season?

Here is this team drawing us back in after a good week, and some less than stellar play from the Red Sux and Rays. Will they disappoint us vs. the Royals?

Red Sox and Rays play each other this week.

I think it would be better for the Yankees, if Boston takes two out of three.  The reason is that we still have 16 games left with them, so we can still make it up head-to-head.  We only have 6 left with Tampa, which was why this past week was so important.  Not only that we won, but we did so while the Rays were losing 6 in a row.  We gained 5 games on them in one week, though Boston is now in first, but like I said, we can make that up head to head.

Who else was surprised the learn that the MLB record for turning triple plays was three, by several teams, including now the Yanks.
I would have figured it'd be higher than that.

Just another in a long line of frustrating losses this season. 0 for 10 with RISP. That is the number 1 reason this team is going no where. Some suspect defense as always, especially from Wade. Loiaziga was awful. What is up with Torres? He knew he struck out in the 9th. So at least run your ass to 1B. But he doesn't, and Gardner does what he does best, popping out. Once again this team is teasing all of us.

Torres not running was irrelevant.  Once they ruled that he swung, with a runner on first and 0 out, he's out automatically, so that was no factor in the outcome.

The press didn't ask Boone the three questions that needed to be asked, postgame.

1.  Why no Britton in the 8th, again?
2.  Why Odor for Wade in the 8th?  With the tying run on second, you just need a single.  I'm more confident in Wade getting that, then Odor.
3.  Is it bothersome that they put the winning run on to face Gardner in the 9th?  Because that should tell you the lack of respect the league has for him right now.

The Yankees have lost 34 games this year. I think you have called 30 of them frustrating /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

Also Lasagna was bad but he’s been simply amazing all year. Guys have bad days. Unfortunately tonight was one for him.

I believe the Yankees have the least number of 5+ run losses (by margin), so yes, most of them have been frustrating.

I believe they also have the least number of 5+ run wins (by margin), so there have been frustrating moments, even in the wins.

Run differential is -1, and that's having scored the least amount of runs of any team in the American League (Detriot has scored one more).  We're also #2 in runs allowed (meaning we've allowed the second least, which is good).  Chicago is the only AL team that has allowed less, by a margin of 20.

All losses are frustrating especially when you are expected to win the division! /media/kunena/emoticons/wink.png

game 72.
wow. the responses to this tough loss have all been written in this thread with what i believe. stealing my red thunder..
ri(s)p. gardner. torres. wade. loaisga.
i will just add - welcome back voit. bravo voit, the starting pitcher, dj.

Another loss with their ace in the mound. That's big considering that King and Taillon are the starting pitchers today and tomorrow. Feeling like this series will become Tigers Part 2. The issue I have with Torres is the lack of baseball IQ in that moment. At least get your ass to 1B in the event it's not called a swing. He knew he did not foul the ball off, but chose to stand at the plate instead of hustling and perhaps making something of it.

You are correct. The 8-7 record with Cole on the mound as a team is tough to swallow.  One of those statistical anomalies though.

Lots of factors in why Sanchez gets walked in that scenario, lack of respect for Gardner is probably last on the list.
1) Never let their hottest hitter beat you.
2) 2 outs, open base.
3) He's slow and they can't run for him.  Will take two hits (other than a HR) to score him.
4) Gardner had two hits in the last 7 games and only two HR all season.

Sanchez gets walked in that situation 100% of the time unless he has Judge, Stanton, Voight or (maybe) DJ hitting behind him.  More about respect for Sanchez than disrespect for Gardner.  Even if he doesn't scare anyone these days.  He's still a lefty with some pop in Yankee Stadium.
