I don’t think ownership is cheap, especially with this payroll and how it’s structured.
This team has no pride. They are playing dumb, undisciplined baseball with an unbalanced and overrated roster.
Time for a change. Well At least there’s the Islanders.
How can any one say Ownership is cheap based on that payroll? How much more do they need to spend as their return on investment has not been good a all. Why, because they don't want to spend anymore. Why keep throwing good money of out for bad. All you they've received is underperforming, repeatedly injured players who when healthy can't even play back to back games. Who is out there right now (and available) that would make this team into a legit contender? They need more than one person and the ones they need are probably not available. Joey Gallo, show another all or nothing hitter who might be able to play center, but he swings lefthanded. Is he really going to move the needle? Schwerzer? If you can get him and at what cost. Does he help give us someone behind Cole. Yes, but really, does he move this team any closer to being a contender? Not by himself.
Horribly constructed, horribly managed, horribly flawed and overrated team from the start. Players are stubborn, have no clue how to adjust to anything (Gleyber does, but fell into that stubborn routine but seems to have gotten out of that at the plate at least) and are delusional as is the Manager and GM..
The blame lay's with Cashman. He brought into the old must have superstars thinking. Not that you can exactly repeat the success of the 96 - 2000 Yankees, but they were a team of good players who meshed and knew how to win. Put the ball in play, made productive outs and knew how to run the bases. Played good, solid defense. Had deep benches.
Cashman has made horrible decisions on long term contracts, keeps trading for or signing pitchers with injury history who of course breakdown because, that's what they do, keeps the wrong players protected from the Rule V draft, hasn't developed any real depth from in-house pitching or for that matter non-pitchers either (while Torres and Frazier played in our minor league systems, they started out elsewhere).
I agree Knight, they have no fire, no pride and no hearts.
