NY Post: Masiello Would Love St. John's Job

Do you guys think we can get Mas for $250k per year? That would really please the bean counters

Could it be that our primary target, Mullin, declined while the Hurleys went in another direction? Often the vacuum in that instance can be filled by a power broker in a program who favors Masiello. Just thinking out loud.

That's obviously how it could get to Massiello. A big time admin would regroup and find a suitable candidate if it gets to that, however.

I hope we hire the unpopular candidate amongst our fans. Our fanbase is so scarred and used to losing that we have no idea what it takes for a coach to win anymore.

He's done nothing but win at Manhattan. Wins big games. Makes the NCAA tournament. Plays a fun style of ball. He's young, fiesty and will get NY recruits. I don't understand how anyone could be in favor of Hurley but not Masiello. So what if he was 3 credits short of a degree. Dan Hurley quit his team as a player at Seton Hall. Mullin certainly wasn't a choir boy when he was here or in the pros.

True. Massiello even came in 2nd in his conference once. A winner through and through. Great at getting guys who aren't good enough for big time programs to transfer too. If it's Massiello it's because the admin is too cheap to make a big hire. His NCAA appearances are based on conference tourney upsets. Massiello's resume is Kevin Williard's part 2 and it took creative writing to get there. But hey, he has Pitino's endorsement, then again so did Norm.

If our old coach could have pulled a few of those conference tournment upsets he is probably still coaching here right now.

Also, Kevin Willard never made it to the postseason at Iona and had a losing overall record. To compare the two is absurd.

They are or would be both bet getting jobs above their paygrade because of Pitino's endorsement to cheap administrations. Very similar. Chris Mulliin and Danny Hurley should have been the fallback options, not the primary targets. Massiello should never even be considered.

Speak for yourself. I think this fan base knows all to well what it takes for a coach to win. And that's why so many of us do not want Masiello here.

This is terrible news. I don't want a liar. I am no choir boy either. Even if this guy is sleazy enough to be a Calipari or Pitino in the making, he will be gone as soon as we win an NCAA game. Oh well, you get what you pay for. At least Jordan seems to like him. Maybe he is lining kids pockets already.

Please everyone cancel your season tickets if we hire a guy who has made as many NCAA tournaments in the last 2 years as our entire program has made in the last 13. I'll gladly slide right into those seats and go cheer for a hard-nosed winning squad.

That's right. Because the MAAC is just like the Big East.

Final point by me would be would any ACC, B1G, PAC12, SEC or BIG12 school consider him? No. If you think the STJ job is the equivalent (or really slightly lower, due to the damaged goods issues he now has) job to USF then you've got your man.

Please - Manhattan lost to Hampton in the play in game. We might has well have hired Will Brown from Albany. Seems like a decent guy and has been to the tournament three years in a row.

Guy is a train wreck in the making.

This makes me laugh and shows how little you know about coaching.
You can say he has limited hc experience, but he's not a guy who will embarrass the school. In fact he'll work his ass off to prove them right.

Just think about it. If he didn't lie about having a degree he wouldn't have gotten a head coaching job. So I guess the end justifies the means here. Maybe he can coach with Calipari, another guy who will say anything to get what he wants.

You would think it'd be easier to make the NCAA tournament in a so-called major conference.

OK. Since you obviously don't care about his ethical makeup. Let me explain it to you I terms that I'm sure you'll get.

HE LOST IN THE PLAY-IN GAME TO HAMPTON!

Surely you are joking. Automatic bid teams from mid major conferences get the lowest seeds for a reason. Their conferences are weaker. Their schedules are easier. Fewer mid major teams get at large bids. If Manhattan didn't beat Iona in their conference tournament, they'd have stayed home. In the regular season they lost twice to Iona.

+100

Gosh.....if we have dropped down to considering Masiello, then just give it to Cluess.

I have my opinions about all the candidates, but Masiello is the only one I am vehemently opposed to.

This is a huge moment. How do we see our program? If we see ourselves as one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the Big East, then we need to get a big time coach. I sincerely hope we have made extremely aggressive offers to both Hurley brothers.

NO MAS!

HE LOST IN THE PLAY-IN GAME TO HAMPTON!

I also saw him play Louisville to a virtual standstill with a team that had no business being in that game. Unless it's a different Steve Masiello I am thinking about.

I think the guy can actually coach. Would I prefer a different option? Sure. Mas might be in the cards, though, so there's not much I can do but get behind him.
