NY Post: Masiello Would Love St. John's Job

Guy is a train wreck in the making.

This makes me laugh and shows how little you know about coaching.
You can say he has limited hc experience, but he's not a guy who will embarrass the school. In fact he'll work his ass off to prove them right.

dude he lied on his resume. He already embarrassed 1 university

It would be great if we hire Masiello to see the curmudgeon fan base's heads collectively explode.
Hope you mean young and old curmudgeons. :) Cause I ain't young and would be ok (not near my top choices) with him. Integrity issue is a small one because until I paid a lousy $5 parking ticket, the only one I got and didn't even know about I would have been in same position as Mas because this Integrity University some croon about held up my degree!

And Lavin lied nearly every other time he opened his mouth.

So what ? the school acted and moved on from him. you wanted Lavin here also when they hired him. so did I. The only 1 on this board that didnt pretty much was Lawmanfan

If Lavin lied on his resume before he got hired here I wouldnt have wanted him here either then.

I'd be fully on board with this. He's a New York guy, a hard worker and is young.

Don't forget, zero integrity. ;)

That was blown way out of proportion.

Blown way out of proportion? Are you kidding me?

He lied to USF about having a degree. Have you ever lied on an employment application about having a fictional degree? If a company found out after hiring you, that would be cause for immediate dismissal. What does that say about his ethics?

I for one would have a real difficult time supporting this hire, if it came to be.

He's done nothing but win at Manhattan. Wins big games. Makes the NCAA tournament. Plays a fun style of ball. He's young, fiesty and will get NY recruits. I don't understand how anyone could be in favor of Hurley but not Masiello. So what if he was 3 credits short of a degree. Dan Hurley quit his team as a player at Seton Hall. Mullin certainly wasn't a choir boy when he was here or in the pros.

True. Massiello even came in 2nd in his conference once. A winner through and through. Great at getting guys who aren't good enough for big time programs to transfer too. If it's Massiello it's because the admin is too cheap to make a big hire. His NCAA appearances are based on conference tourney upsets. Massiello's resume is Kevin Williard's part 2 and it took creative writing to get there. But hey, he has Pitino's endorsement, then again so did Norm.

Desco, I'm sure you know this and I don't mean to be preachy, but the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. And Masiello has demonstrated poor, no, unethical, behavior. I do now want him here.

What does who I wanted have anything to do with anything? When we fired Norm I never mentioned Lavin's name. I mentioned Lavin's name in years past when he was just fired from UCLA. When he appeared as our choice I was surprised just as anyone. Never did I campaign and say we need to hire him.

I'll support whoever the coach is. Mullin, Hurley(s), Masiello, Cluess, Jackson, whoever else you want to think of. People here will genuflect if Pitino chose us yet he banged a woman on a restaurant table. Everyone has their own definition of integrity I guess?

Come on, Moose. That's just your opinion. It's not an opinion, but a fact, that Masiello told USF he had a degree when in fact, he did not. He lied. If he did it once, he'll do it again.

Could it be that our primary target, Mullin, declined while the Hurleys went in another direction? Often the vacuum in that instance can be filled by a power broker in a program who favors a Masiello candidacy? Just thinking out loud.

That is very possible. ;)

It's not an opinion.

It doesn't matter. Ball is still in the court of the greatest player this school has ever seen. If he accepts its moot point.

Sure it is. Otherwise, tell us, what did he lie about?

And I pray that Mullin accepts it, although, it appears he may have already turned us down.

How many of you will be on suicide watch when St. John's announces this week that they have made up with Coach Lavin? :eek:hmy:

If our old coach could have pulled a few of those conference tournment upsets he is probably still coaching here right now.

Also, Kevin Willard never made it to the postseason at Iona and had a losing overall record. To compare the two is absurd.

Did Mas have an off year coaching this year?

He lost to:
Florida State (17-16 record)
UMass (17-15)
Northeastern (23-12)
George Mason (9-22)
Fairfield (7-24)
Rutgers (10-22)
Niagara (8-22)
Rider x 2 (21-12)
Quinnipiac (15-15)
Hampton (17-18)

Lost 6 games to teams that were .500 or lower. Is this really an upgrade? I don't watch much Manhattan basketball but I just don't get it.

Let Mike Repole make another offer to Billy Donovan. Florida will be looking up at Kentucky in most years, but the Gators do have an excellent class coming in the fall.

Maybe he wants Masiello.
