Nov 8, 2016 - The lesser of two evils?

I've kind of recused myself from this discussion from the time being as I am becoming convinced that the public issues of the day are not even that important to liberals who are trying to fuel the fire. The outrage of losing the Presidential election to someone whose campaign strategy was unlike any major candidate in our history that he was able to win without the support of major media outlets, no ground game, and not even support of Republicans party operatives and elected politicians is egregious to liberals.

While the rank and file may feel differently, I'm convinced that liberal party operatives collectively don't have an ideology that cares about the environment, or "women's rights", or the LGBT movement, or about the plight of inner city blacks, or about Islam, Israel, or Latino undocumented immigrants. They don't particularly give a shit about whether ISIS Is overwhelming the middle east, or if Putin was invading the Ukraine. All they care about is retaining political power and the wealth that flows from it.

While I do believe a large measure of this exists on the Right, at this point I won't micro analyze whether the women's march was about women's rights (it wasn't, it was a big show to embarrass a newly inaugurated President and try to degrade his election.) or whether Trump is offensive to Muslims or Latinos (IMO he isn't, he's just trying to keep America safe). But the sheep who buy into these issues as significant, are just licking the flavor of the lollipop that the liberal media is serving up that day.

For me, I'll just wait and see if the Trump administration can cut through all this horseshit and actually make us a better military and economic power, cut government spending, and improve the lives of Americans. If it happens it happens, but I won't depend on the press telling me whether it is or not, and I certainly won't buy into this subterfuge of so called issues that liberals are using to try to derail his Presidency before it gets off the ground. Their biggest fear is that he actually gets something done, and 2020 elections become a done deal well before election day.

So, when Fun posts that liberals declare all those who disagree with them on social issues are "evil", I kind of get it. The more extreme folks have a tendency to be closed minded and look with disdain toward opposing views.

That said, I have noticed that the right is quick to declare all those that disagree with their views as "Sheep" who are led by the media and can't think for themselves.

It's the same crap from both sides. Then, to further perpetuate the nonsense, when presented with this, folks often say something like "yeah, yeah, I know, but the other side is so much worse!" That's closed minded.

Folks who believe people are not really passionate about women's rights, the environment, LBGT movement, etc.....are seriously misreading a whole swath of citizens. If you are exclusively talking about our representatives, you may (in many cases) be correct in saying it's all about power and money. But is it not the same on the other side of the aisle?

One more point in my quest to highlight that both sides are equally hypocritical. A great example of selective outrage will come later this month when it is time to raise the debt ceiling. Remember this issue? Now watch all those republican congressmen suddenly change their tune......or kick the can down the road because it is too obvious.

I believe they are mostly marching to protect their civil and reproductive rights, though the fact that he is a self admitted sexual predator doesn't help his image. And you are correct, we have slowly shifted from Idiot America to Douchebag Nation. All those non douchebags need to grow a pair even if they don't have the sausage. :roll eyes:

"A sexual predator is a person seen as obtaining or trying to obtain sexual contact with another person in a metaphorically "predatory" or abusive manner. Analogous to how a predator hunts down its prey, so the sexual predator is thought to "hunt" for his or her sex partners."

If ever there was an ambiguous definition, this is it. I've known numerous women who the same can be said of, yet it's amazing how women are rarely considered sexual predators. Hell I've been preyed upon myself back in my younger days, and you won' t ever hear me complaining. Aren't "cougars" so named for their preying on younger men, and glorified for their sexual conquests? Female teachers who prey on male students are usually only given a slap on the wrist as punishment, because somehow the bar is set much lower for women than it is for men, regardless of the predatory nature of the relationship. Sure as hell seems like a double standard to me.
I wish I had some hot teacher back when I was young. I'd have loved to be her bait. I think in 12 years of grade school to high school I literally only had 1 hot teacher the entire time. Back then it seemed like all those women teachers were super old. I look back at my old school pics now and realize some of them weren't much older than I am now. Holy shit I'm getting old

Just imagine what a female teacher-any female teacher!-looked like at an all boys high school. Its almost like how females look to guys in the joint.
HAAAAAAA !!!!! Nathalie went to an all girls school in peru and she said the only guy in the whole school was the gardener and he was real old and yet all the girls did was worship the guy :)

Back in my early 20s a friend and I went to Club Med. The minute we arrived we realized that it was 95% guys, so we needed to figure something out because we knew the competition for the few girls would be fierce. That night we got to the lounge early, stood right by the entrance door and grabbed(not by the pussy) the first 2 girls that walked in. We thought we struck gold. They were gorgeous and game. I spent pretty much every minute of the entire week with the girl I met, afraid that if I let her out of my sight she'd get picked up by some other desperate guy. When the week ended, she went home to Toronto and I came home to NY, convinced I had yet again met the girl of my dreams. A few months later she came to visit. I met her at the airport and the minute I laid eyes on her my first thought was "WTF was I thinking????? This can't be the same girl!!!! I can't believe I have to spend the entire weekend with her!!!!". Not only wasn't she gorgeous, she wasn't even remotely attractive. Clearly the combination of alcohol, sun, sex and lack of other female options, had completely distorted my perception. Guess it was sort of my Shallow Hal moment.

Outstanding Post!!! .....good laugh.

Thanks. Thought the thread needed a little levity, and assume the mods and the few posters who read this thread could care less if we go off topic. ha

Absolutely. We've all experienced the "Beer Goggle" dynamic to some extent. But that story was just a classic.

I would suggest you read more carefully. I did not suggest that these issues are things that disparate groups of the rank and file are not passionate about. What i am strongly suggesting is that party leadership cares little about these issues except to take pisitions that will put them in the greatest favor among liberal voters. While you believe you are in a party that best is aligned with your views, i believe they've become shapeshifters that will adopt any position good or bad that expands their base and delivers the most votes to keep them in power. Thats a big difference.

Well, technically, I am an independent. My philosophies are more aligned with democrats than republicans, but I do not see myself "in a party". I think the democratic party leadership is as shameless as you do. I just don't see the republican leaders as "better" or any less hypocritical.

On November 9th, I accepted Donald Trump as the President of our country. However, there are a few things that I would now like to see.I would like to see his taxes for the sake of transparency. This would allow us to see if any of his decisions were financially benefiting him. I never understood the argument of not disclosing them before the election but now that he is President and wants us to trust him, I think disclosure is necessary.

Russia has never been our ally on the same level as England, communication between his inner circle and the Russians is dangerous. None of them have the experience to deal with Putin and his cronies. They are way over their heads. I am definitely not a leftist and have some very conservative views that have been shaped by my Catholic education from grammar school through college.

What I see happening is, Trump supporters digging their heels in and not wanting to see anything wrong with our President. This is what causes division in our country, extremists on both sides unwilling to concede anything. I love my family, but if any of them were doing something wrong, I would like it to be brought to my attention, even if it was by someone just doing it out of spite.

Why is it that everyone is big on transparency until they feel that one of their own may be exposed?????

Panther while there is certainly an element of Trump voters(I prefer the term "voter" to "supporter") not wanting to see anything wrong with him, I don't personally know to many people like that. The few that I do know are not what I would call "friends". Most of the Trump voters that I know personally agree that he has some major flaws. But keep in mind, you can say the same thing about people who voted for Obama, Hillary and pretty much every other politician who has ever run for office. As for his tax returns, if I were in his position I would not release them. His voters don't really care if he releases them. The only people who really care are his enemies, and that's because they are looking for ways to discredit him. Now why in the world would he want to give his enemies any ammunition, even a small amount? It's not like he's required to. IMO that would be simply foolish on his part.

If you're as independent as you claim - and how fortunate for your independence that every republican president since 1993 has been so loathsome that you can "hate" them - how come in your quest to point out that both sides are hypocritical you point to a hypocrisy that might occur among republicans sometime in the future. If I were asked to point out a political hypocrisy the example I'd use is a president who declared that his administration would be the most transparent in history using the IRS to silence his political enemies and then refusing to produce evidence to the legislature investigating the issue. Because that seems a tad hypocritical to me. Or perhaps the president who was caught on a hot mike whispering "Tell Vladimir I'll have more flexibility after election" acting outraged by the notion of alleged secret communications with the Russians. Because those actually occurred. But then I'm a partisan, not an independent like you.

Not to mention the one I am on right now. In Stellenbosch, South Africa staying for a week's retreat on a vineyard where they produce a number of red and white varieties of delicious vines for national and international markets. My liberal colleagues invited me to help them to figure out how to increase socio-economic benefits to those poorer sections of the global society particularly the rural (read more than a billion people living on a measure stick called $1.25 per day). My previous suggestion of 40 acres and a mule did not go down well last time :)

Perhaps between courses you can suggest that they sell Turtle Bay to the highest bidder and combine the sale price with the UN's six billion dollar budget and distribute the revenue to the poor.

With this whole Ridiculous Trump 5:30am Obama wiretapping tweet nonsense I think I finally figured it out. I think Trump probably takes Ambien and then wakes up half loopy and starts tweeting.

He needs a block on his twitter so he can only tweet between 9am and 12am

Apparently Session's phone calls were tapped, no? Nothing would surprise me any more in this era.

Funny how Wasserman Schultz, who conspired against Sanders, is now cslling Trump anti-semitic for not getting involved in headstones getting toppled in jewish cemeteries. I think Netanyahu would think differently about Trump

What does Netanyahu have to do with anti semitism in the United States? He is not the king of the Jewish people. And what makes you think that Wasserman Schultz conspired against Sanders because he is Jewish. That is a stretch. Headstones getting toppled in Jewish cemeteries is a serious problem as are all of the bomb threats to the JCC's. I am not saying that Trump has anything to do with it but it is a sensitive topic that you are making light of.

Actually my point was either poorly written or you misunderstood.

Calling Trump anti semitic for not getting involved in these isolated incidents is something obama was never involved in when a menorah is destroyed or swastika sprayed on a synagogue.

What i am saying is protection of israel as the jewish homeland is a much more powerful statement by Trump tgat the previous administeation wavered on.

Interesting phenomenon is that younger jewish americans, mostly liberal suddenly do not see protection of Israel as a priority and that is startlibg to me.

Comment about wasserman has nothing to do with sander's religion but everything about wasserman's lacknof hobesty and integrity.
