Northeastern Game

We deserved to lose. Very frustrating game for several reasons. #1 we looked lethargic and seemed like we looked past this game with Kentucky up next. #2 Our Defense flat our stunk. No other way of putting it. Can we put a body on #20 ? What was his name ? Jones ? The guy had more open shots than I do at the pistol range. #3 Our student section had at most 60 kids and think about 18 of them were actually non students just looking to be closer to the exit.

I'm just hoping we don't get blown out by Kentucky or else I seriously need to find a client there so I can at least write off part of the trip on my taxes :) Anyway it's not the Kentucky game so much but the Detroit game is huge now

I think it was even less than 60 in the student section behind the basket. The rest of the place seemed pretty filled though.
It was 60 combined for BOTH baskets. lol And at 1 point it was 42. I actually counted.

Overall though you are right. The crowd was a pretty good size

I just hope the people who showed up today, and watched us for the first time, don't abandon ship. I don't mean anybody on here, I think it's ingrained in all of us. But, the casual fan may have been turned off for this year, if they went today to see them play for the first time (and with the NBA setteling today, that's a distinct possibility, IMO).

Today was not our day, but the talent is there. It's just going to be another year or two before we get to the level we want to be at, which is a national contender. To me though, it's still a question of when, not if.

Defense was the major problem here. They scored at will. The most glaring offender though is IMO Mo Harkless. He doesn't move is feet and plays at 50% speed on D. He's not the only guy, dont get me wrong. Team looked confused and couldn't even get to the shooter on cross-court passes. The northeastern team was pretty decent, but it was mostly our fault. We made #20 look like a Mc D's AA. Poor effort tonight. Terribly sloppy ball, especially on D. We're better than this.

Harkless suffers from Daryl Strawberry disease. He just never looks like he's giving it maximum effort.

Some of that, to me, is that maybe the game comes so easily to him it looks effortless, a la Robinson Cano.

What I really think it is though, is that the staff has said nuemerous times (for obvious reasons) that the players conserving themselves is very important to this year's team. I fear that Harkless is listing to that creed a little TOO much.

It comes easy to him, but he's not moving his feet enough to cover ground and defenders. He stands up too straight and doesn't move fast enough on slides. It's not only a problem with him, but this is nothing new for Mo. He needs to work on his defense a LOT. They all do, it was atrocious today.

Our rebounding was atrocious at both ends . How many points did we score off transition ?? We were able to get the ball into the middle of their 2-3 zone but they collapsed on the inside person and constantly were able to tie up the SJU player . We missed too many short shots from start to finish . we ;looked intimidated inside !!!!

We were awful but they actually looked pretty damn good...in fact most of the teams that we have played at CA seem to be really well coached and moved the ball well to get open looks...Northeastern differed from Lehigh and W&M in that they were athletic in addition to being well coached and able to shoot...as a result, we couldn't impose our will...

I am most concerned about our lack of an outside shooter..I hope someone can develop some consistency somewhere along the way...

Very sloppy. Pt.guard can't be driving into paint with 4 guys waiting for him. Our guys can't run a play, shoot, or rebound. I figure coaches will fix what they can. This group looks very unhappy. Gift looks outright miserable. Am I imagining this or is it so.?

Ok , if you took the time to count them-- you must be right.

Did anyone else notice how hard Nuri threw the ball to the ref after he was called for a travel , late first half?

I think, when you're not making shots, yeah, you tend to look unhappy.

But, I don't think it's a sign that these guys don't get along, or don't like the coaches.

There does seem to be, because we sub so much early in games (for obvious reasons), a lack of continuity on the court. Heck, when Pointer picked up his third foul, he was supposed to go out, but something got lost in translation, and Harkless left instead. As soon as the clock started running again, Dunlap put Harkless right back at the table. We also nearly got caught with 6 on the court coming out of a timeout. Those are the kinds of things that just can't happen.

I noticed that also, Harkless came out on the court on accident-- we had 6 out there for a second.

I really dont think that this group is unhappy. When you are getting beat it is frustrating and you tend to have that unhappy appearance. There is such an upside to this team that one lopsided lose should not deter fans from enjoying this team. We are undermanned right now and may probob;y for the rest of the season. Amir. arrival in December will be a great addition. I really feel that come the turn of the new year, that the team we watched today will be a thing of the past.

I noticed and thought for a second he was going to get Td-up. He was obviously pissed off and is lucky he didn't hit the ref in the face.

One last thing I want to add before I forget about this game, remember the Fordham game from last year. Things chance drastically, within months and even games. We will bounce back

I thought he would get T'd also. A few minutes later the same ref pulled Nuri aside and was talking to him-- I bet letting him know he let that slide once but not again. For what it's worth it was Nuri's best pass of the day it was a dart right into the ref's hands

I almost was not going to waste time posting about this game but a redmen addict can stay away just so long.

The crowd was the largest of the year even with the resident students away. However, with Lavinwood unoccupied as well as being Lavin-less, I think both the crowd and the players were flummoxed.

The players---no energy as most pointed out but very little in the way of teamwork today. Once Gift got into the game we had a slight chance at offensive and defensive rebounds but most showed no willingness to mix it up.
Moe Harkless slept-walked throughout the entire game. He showed no desire to help under the boards even though he collected 8 rebounds basically by accident it seemed. Was unaggressive and out of postion most of the afternoon.

Harrison had a nightmare game and being the only effective shooter it pretty much sealed the loss.

Nurideen played his best game as far as shooting and free throws but every other facet of his game was purely CYO. When Malik Stith looks better distributing the ball you know it's going to a long night for Nurideen. His overprenetation cost SJ at least three possessions.

One bitter reality after today is that this team is barely six deep and when 3 players do not show up and the coaches have no defensive answer for ONE Northeastern player (Smith), some Big East teams will run our kids off the court.

The coaches need to get some surprise recruits for 2012, and they should be on top of every uncommitted player in America and Canada! It will not play well when one of your assistant coaches earns more than the entire Iona College staff and you do not bring in one blue chipper.

I too thought this was going to be a win, but Northeastern played well. They hit thir 3's and the boards and we had no answer. The lack of experience and youth really showed today. When we got down in the 2nd half, they seemed to try and get it all back at once, by taking bad 3's and forcing it in the paint. It went from down 3 to 10 in just 3 posessions.

We are going to take our lumps this year, but game in and game out you can see the talent level, they just need more games under thir belt.

What? They hit their 3's -what a surprise. Trying to get back in the game, forcing shots. Playing another poor defensive game. What's up Lavin and Dunlap?

This was a bad loss. I could hardly watch. I can understand losing to a couple top 25 teams. I know this is a young squad, but between the losses, the kids not qualify, and the decommits the program really needs some traction. Lavins sales ability will be pushed to the test. Still have faith, but the lumps keep on coming this year.

this was as embarassing as the maryland blow out at the garden a few years ago. the players look like they never saw each other before. how many blown layups and shots in the paint can you stand? the rebounding was weak as usual.

it's time for our superstar...harkless...to step up and take over these games the way looie's superstars did. i won't mention who he reminds me of from last year's team because the season just started.

the opposition has figured out nuri's game...it's time for him to work on an outside shot.

god's gift has to play every game as he did in the second half.

it's too bad we don't have many substitutes. stith brings absolutely nothing to the game except he's a reminder of the norm error...remember when we played our four against their five. that's how it is when he's there.

embarassing, because i brought three people to the game with me and had to suffer their sympathetic stares.
