Northeastern Game

Pathetic lack of focus from the team today. Completely undisciplined defensively. Weak hacks at the ball in the back court, guys getting in the air on shot fakes which completely threw off our defensive rotation. Moe played incredibly soft and he avoids a ton of contact, D'Angelo seemingly stopped driving after his impressive offensive outburst early, Dom didn't provide the same spark at the bottom of the zone that he provided at the top. This team just couldn't sustain a focus for more than a few possessions at a time. I hope Dunlap runs them til they puke.

The team was out hustled , out rebounded, played with no passion. We just out played in every part of the game tonight. The entire game was bad.

Thoroughly outplayed in every aspect of the game from the opening tap to the final buzzer. I think that just about sums it up.

Yeah, as Keady said on the radio post game, today they looked and played like freshman. Harkless seems to drift in and out of the action, and I think he saw less pt becasue the coaching staff was not happy wifh the effort. GG looked better. Let's hope the KY game is competitive. Maybe they were looking ahead.

We've seen for 7 games now. This team can't play the zone D, but generally looks good in the man-to-man D. Dunlap, however, seems very, very determined to make this zone work. I admire his passion for trying to make it happen, but it's time to scrap the zone D. I think we might have won this game with Lavin, as he is more open-minded, IMO.

Lavin has said that if we had a full rotation of bodies, we would play more man-to-ma. The problem with man-to-man is that it leads to more fouls, which is something this team must avoid. That is why we play a huge bulk of zone.

Problem is that in order to stay out of foul trouble, they need to stay in the zone. We just seem to give up way to many open 3's and even mid majors can hit open shots. When Amir gets here in Dec it will lengthin the bench and allow for more man D. Until then we have to continue with the zone and hope teams are cold from the perimiter. Freshmen will be freshman and they will learn from mistakes and will make them better down the road.

Normally, I would agree. Other then Pointer though, it seems like this team fouls more in zone, because we get caught chasing when we miss assingments.

We have to stay with the match up zone. Not only to protect against fouls but because when played correctly other teams have trouble recognizing who's defending who, it's not easy to play agaunst when played correctly. Last years teams had trouble in the beginning of the year playing it also. Reference the Niagara and Fordham games. We will get better from this. I just wish we weren't playing Kentucky this early in the year. It could get ugly on National TV. That's not the ideal situation when your trying to re-recruit some of the players who we have in our sights.

I can see that argument, and I probably did go too far with my "scrap it" comment earlier (chalk that up to the frustrations of a loss).

But, in the Lehigh game, Lavin showed a little more flexibility when we were down late, and was willing to go to the man-to-man D, if only to turn that game around, and nothing else. Dunlap, in a similar situation today, looked like he was committed to staying with the zone come hell or highwater. He should have at least tried the man defense, to see if we could go on a run. Might not have worked, but even the limited past of this team showed you that it was at least worth a try.

We deserved to lose. Very frustrating game for several reasons. #1 we looked lethargic and seemed like we looked past this game with Kentucky up next. #2 Our Defense flat our stunk. No other way of putting it. Can we put a body on #20 ? What was his name ? Jones ? The guy had more open shots than I do at the pistol range. #3 Our student section had at most 60 kids and think about 18 of them were actually non students just looking to be closer to the exit.

I'm just hoping we don't get blown out by Kentucky or else I seriously need to find a client there so I can at least write off part of the trip on my taxes :) Anyway it's not the Kentucky game so much but the Detroit game is huge now

Just got back from the game and I am still amazed at what I witnessed.

Flat, flat, flat in every aspect of the game. Rebounds were horrible on both ends. Defense was swiss cheese like. Ball movement and handling was slow and sloppy. Layups, AWFUL! Hate saying it, but this looked like a Norm team today.

I too wish they would go with more man defense, but they need to learn the zone, especially for conference play. We are too thin to play a lot of man. So get used to it, fellas.

Could be a looooong season. I fear what Thursday will be like. Maybe they will show us something come Thursday. I will be rooting for sure.

I think it was even less than 60 in the student section behind the basket. The rest of the place seemed pretty filled though.

It was 60 combined for BOTH baskets. lol And at 1 point it was 42. I actually counted.

Overall though you are right. The crowd was a pretty good size

Defense was the most troubling to me. Northeastern was able to answer both times we got the lead. we were unable to make a stop when we needed to. maybe lack of focus on the defense end.

Defense was the major problem here. They scored at will. The most glaring offender though is IMO Mo Harkless. He doesn't move is feet and plays at 50% speed on D. He's not the only guy, dont get me wrong. Team looked confused and couldn't even get to the shooter on cross-court passes. The northeastern team was pretty decent, but it was mostly our fault. We made #20 look like a Mc D's AA. Poor effort tonight. Terribly sloppy ball, especially on D. We're better than this.
