I have a Wildcard suggestion for next Coach , after CMA retires or …..    it’s going to be a surprise and I’m sure there will be the negative comments .       Greg St Jean ….  Since he left after Mullin , he’s spent 2 Years with the Lakers in Scouting and Pro Development .  He’s currently a Assistant Coach with the Dallas Mavericks .       He’s a graduate of Wesleyan College in Conn and spent the 4 years here as a Mullin Assistant .  He’s young  , smart and obviously knows how to evaluate Talent , which he did in the NBA .  What better for Recruiting ?    It’s a long shot since it appears he is aiming to be a NBA Coach , GM following in the footsteps of his Dad , Garry .          As I recall , Many fans got to know him and the consensus was a good guy , smart , knew Basketball and seemed  to enjoy his time here at St John’s .      As I said , it’s a long shot but , often times the tenure of NBA Coaches is short lived . Even as a Assistant .   We could do a lot worse . Would he come back ?  Who knows ?
Can we close this thread?

John Edwards the seeing dead people guy was from my town. I  might be able to get him to channel Al Lobalbo as an assistant
Per sq mile, long island has to produce more mediums then anywhere else in the world. What's up with that?
It's the drinking water and alcohol. Makes us see things

I still dont understand if John saw dead people how come they couldn't give him answers on tests in school
Maybe he knew only dumb dead people back then?

Pretty sure this thread will start to become relevant around 2028, give or take a year or so.

So who was the coach that succeeded CMA that we are looking to dump in 2028 or should I say who were the coaches.

Ken Reeves for sure.  He won a championship at Carver despite the fact he didn't have much to work with besides Coolidge. Not sure where Coolidge ended up. Maybe overseas.

He wound up at St.Elsewhere where he did a great job cleaning up the boards but his knees prevented him from going further. Salami joined him there for awhile but left the program.

Technically yes. But they sure didn't try to stop him.  They didn't ask Marquette or Smart for his buyout, they essentially waived it.

It was clear they wanted Beard and Smart having an opportunity to go to Marquette was a convenient excuse to create an opening.

I think in the long run it will be best for both parties.

Why not Richard Pitino?? You know he’ll recruit well regardless. He’s young and would probably take the job
Plus,  I really hope that by next time around we've learned our lesson and do not hire yet another coach who was fired from his previous job

Texas didn’t fire Shaka Smart although there were rumors they might.  He left and went back to his home state.

I never said Smart was fired, although I believe it was a mutual parting of the ways
that was supposed to be in response to Mean Gene who responded to you about Marquette hiring someone who had been fired and “how was it working out for them?”

He was "kind of nuts" (and may still be) but he's the best coach that St John's has had in the past 25 years. He appears to be "normal" on TV. Maybe he's matured since he left St John's more than 20 years ago.

I know that this would could happen but the man could coach and recruit. When he was hired, he called St John's his "dream job". Too bad things ended the way they did. He could have had a long and highly successful career here and saved us fans a whole lot of heartache ever since he left.

I respectfully disagree.

Resurrecting the program is young man’s job and not for someone who has not coached for 20 years. I am not sure anyone knows for sure why Mr. Franchilla was fired at St. John’s or subsequently by University of New Mexico but the fact remains that no school hired him after being canned by New Mexico.

When I “googled” Fran Fraschilla I was impressed to see that his 2 sons have established successful careers in basketball. His son, James Fraschilla, played for the University of Oklahoma men's basketball team and was nominated for the Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year Award. James is on the basketball staff of the Orlando Magic. His younger son, Matthew Fraschilla, played basketball at Harvard University and is currently on the staff of the Orlando Magic.

I want to win with Anderson. But if not, my life is already likely two-thirds over and I want to win. A little muck -- or a lot -- doesn't affect my fandom at this point.

1) CMA
2) Rick Pitino
3) Gregg Marshall
4) Shaheen Holloway
5) Ryan Odom
6) Robert Jones
7) Casey Alexander
8) Matt Langel
9) Niko Medved
10) Todd Golden

Otis, it was "with tongue in cheek" that I suggested Franny. I know that he could never be rehired for several reasons. However, the point of the post is to acknowledge that we haven't had a coach equal or better than him since he left almost 25 years ago. Although, CMA was hired at the age of 59 and is only 1 year younger than FF.............

Greg really wanted the job when Chris left, and every player was in favor of him being hired. He single handedly held the team together dealing with players and their parents concerned about the program after Chris left. He did this knowing he was a long shot for Hc.  Good man.

While here, Greg lived in an apartment within walking distance to sju so he could be around the program continually.  Long hours didnt bother him as he lives and breathes basketball and loved everything about sju.

Greg LOVES St. John's and I know for a fact that he would love to return here as HC some day. In fact at one point I would say he would privately intend to return. However great that is to hear, I feel his bbn future may be as a pro HC or a top assistant in the NBA. He does have coaching in his blood and even at 26 27, he was an authority figure to players, not a pal. He was however, a guy that players could confide in and take problems to.

I'm admittedly very biased but at some point we could do a lot  worse than gsj as hc.
