My dream St. John’s staff would be
Panther2 as head coach
with his 3 assistants being
*JPM
*Monte
*Redmennorth

absent that dream staff I would like to see as St. John’s head coach
1.   Norman Dale
2.  Patrick Beilein
3.  Kevin Mackey

Why not Richard Pitino?? You know he’ll recruit well regardless. He’s young and would probably take the job
Anti Pitino segment will revisit the sins of the father on the son and put the kibosh on it.
Plus,  I really hope that by next time around we've learned our lesson and do not hire yet another coach who was fired from his previous job

Marquette hired a coach that was fired from a previous job, how’s that working out? Tennessee hired a coach that was fired from a previous job, I believe they’re ranked.

Texas didn’t fire Shaka Smart although there were rumors they might.  He left and went back to his home state.

Technically yes. But they sure didn't try to stop him.  They didn't ask Marquette or Smart for his buyout, they essentially waived it.

It was clear they wanted Beard and Smart having an opportunity to go to Marquette was a convenient excuse to create an opening.

I think in the long run it will be best for both parties.

Not necessarily my top picks but a few to keep eye on

Kyle Neptune
George Halcovage (Assoc HC @ Nova)
Bashir Mason (Wagner)
Shaheen Holloway
Speedy Claxton

Bet Neptune or Halcovage will be groomed to take baton from Jay Wright when he's ready to retire.

Ken Reeves for sure.  He won a championship at Carver despite the fact he didn't have much to work with besides Coolidge. Not sure where Coolidge ended up. Maybe overseas.

John Edwards the seeing dead people guy was from my town. I  might be able to get him to channel Al Lobalbo as an assistant

I never said Smart was fired, although I believe it was a mutual parting of the ways

Was Barnes fired from Texas? I didn't remember that. There are always exceptions, but so far that formula hasn't worked out well for us. I watch a lot of Tenn, and Barnes' teams never impress me. They always seem like they should be better then they are.

Per sq mile, long island has to produce more mediums then anywhere else in the world. What's up with that?

It's the drinking water and alcohol. Makes us see things

I still dont understand if John saw dead people how come they couldn't give him answers on tests in school

Sean Miller would make for a polarizing debate.

Personally I'm done worrying about baggage.

1) James Naismith
2) Phog Allen
3) Adolp Rupp
4) Hank Iba
5) John Wooden

Surely one of these legendary coaches can lift us out of our doldrums. On second thought probably not.

Obviously CMA isn't going anywhere for at least another 2 years unless he chooses to leave. Cragg can't cut bait on his first coaching hire after 3 years especially after how the search was a national embarrassment. Nobody worth a damn wanted to come here 3 years ago and they sure wouldn't want to come after CMA gets canned after year 3.

That said, there's likely to be a change at some point in the next few years and since it's too early to really zero in on names we can decide which route we'd want to go with the next choice.

1. The hot young mid/low-major coach (Not really any out there now on this side of the country)
2. The veteran at a power conference school who is may be wearing out his welcome with a few recent underperforming seasons (The Mike Brey rumors from the last search. But this is essentially what happened with Shaka. Not advocating for any of these but same names that would fill this category are Frank Martin, Josh Pastner, Mike White)
3. The power conference assistant with recruiting ties to this area (One of the Antiguas but ugh)
4. The veteran successful mid-major guy who hasn't had a chance at a higher level yet (James Jones from Yale from our last search. Worked for Rutgers with Pikiell)
5. The fired power conference coach looking for anywhere to land (Obviously what Anderson was. Maybe if Mack never turns it around Louisville will show him the door)
6. The coach currently in the media will probably get back into coaching again at some point (Already did this with Lavin but Sean or Archie Miller come to mind now)
7. The alum looking to give college coaching a try for the first time (Did this with Mullin. Mark Jackson?)

Generally speaking, I think the weakest of the options are 5, 6, and 7 which is of course the categories we've went with our last 3 hires. Though obviously none of them are guaranteed to succeed or fail, I'd like to see us go with option 1 for once. I'd love for us to have a coach that does so well here that he leaves us for a better job after 6 or 7 years.

Jay Wright just turned 60.   Considering the path Coach K and Boeheim have blazed, he could be at Nova for 15 more years.

I have a Wildcard suggestion for next Coach , after CMA retires or …..    it’s going to be a surprise and I’m sure there will be the negative comments .       Greg St Jean ….  Since he left after Mullin , he’s spent 2 Years with the Lakers in Scouting and Pro Development .  He’s currently a Assistant Coach with the Dallas Mavericks .       He’s a graduate of Wesleyan College in Conn and spent the 4 years here as a Mullin Assistant .  He’s young  , smart and obviously knows how to evaluate Talent , which he did in the NBA .  What better for Recruiting ?    It’s a long shot since it appears he is aiming to be a NBA Coach , GM following in the footsteps of his Dad , Garry .          As I recall , Many fans got to know him and the consensus was a good guy , smart , knew Basketball and seemed  to enjoy his time here at St John’s .      As I said , it’s a long shot but , often times the tenure of NBA Coaches is short lived . Even as a Assistant .   We could do a lot worse . Would he come back ?  Who knows ?
