My problem is that I believe Lavin knowingly sabotaged last year's recruiting class/efforts to secure an extension.
It's beyond scary that this is what some of you truly believe.
-He admitted that he stopped recruiting Isaiah Whitehead for the fear of perception of losing a NY kid
-He did not secure Chris McCullogh who was down to us and Cuse because he either felt that he had McCullough in the bag and/or Jakarr would be returning
-AAU teammates Abdul Malik Abu and Jared Terrell did not even mention SJU expressing interest after Both players included SJU on their cut list in the summer of 2013
-He was not recruiting locally as per the NY Post article in January 2014 even though he had to fill scholarships for Sanchez, Bourgault, Gift and any possible early entry candidates (Jakarr).
It's more scary that you are fine with headlines instead of results.
I'd love to see you prove that he worked his hardest to secure the '14 recruiting class.
No one but him brought up his contract extension when the team started off 0-5 in conference play last year.
I don't see how this is proof of anything related to sabotaging his recruiting class intentionally.
Just like I can't prove that he worked his hardest, you can't prove that he didn't.
Please explain how sabotaging your own recruiting class is a method of getting an extension. Wouldn't you get an extension by getting the best possible recruits and winning with them?
Do you really think Coach Lavin purposely lost with the theory of that being his best route to an extension?
I think there are valid points on his coaching abilities and his overall recruiting. I would gladly welcome a proven winning coach to replace Lavin. BUT, I think it's paranoia or pure hatred of the man to really believe that he sabotaged his own recruiting class.
I feel like I'm repeating myself.
If a coach refuses to go recruiting while having scholarships to fill, what does that mean? Explain to me why he would not be out recruiting and I'll drop it.
And hatred is pretty harsh. Seems like a cool guy but that has no bearing on him doing his job well.
Just because he wasn't recruiting local players (reported by whom, local coaches and others who have a personal agenda) doesn't mean he wasn't recruiting elsewhere.
In January 2014 what local high school players who were seniors were available? What D1 schools did they pick. I can think of Whitehead and ADR.
I must have missed it, but please provide me with the article or quote where Lavin admitted to not recruiting Whitehead because of the perception of losing another local kid? A local kid who signed with a school who was going to hire his HS and AAU coach as an assistant coach. Could it be possible that was an angle he didn't really want to play?
what gets you a no brainier extension, winning games and showing a good recruiting glass coming in or losing and no prospects?
Not getting prospects makes it more difficult to get an extension. Just ask Jarvis and Norm who ultimately walked the plank for not winning or bringing in the recruits.
