Next Coach?

So basically this board will remain divided for the next couple of years. If coach stays the board will remain the same, just like if he his replaced by coach A or coach B. The only way this board will come together is if they get that home run coach. It should be a very interesting time.

My problem is that I believe Lavin knowingly sabotaged last year's recruiting class/efforts to secure an extension.

And in doing so, he set the program back 2 years.

If he had no desire to recruit in the summer of 2013 through winter 2014, who is to say giving him the security of a contract extension will "light his fire"?

I think it's too dangerous to have him "comfortable".

Rico Hines and Gene Keady do nothing. Darrick Martin was hiring a friend. These are wastes. Lavin should've broke the bank to hire the De La Salle head coach Allocco.

Our style of play is not conducive to sustained winning.

The recruiting efforts outside of Chiles is lazy and has no focus. We don't recruit kids who play a role. We recruit kids who can run and jump. No shooters. No rebounders. No size.

And Lavin has been piss poor at establishing key relationships especially in NJ.

I want him gone. Nice guy but he doesn't show the desire that works in NY. Hes a Cali guy who prefers the laid back approach in everything.

If the new President gets suckered into giving him an extension, he's waving the white flag on the basketball program.

outstanding post!

Included in the consideration of Lavin's extension the powers to be better have an idea who wants the job. The list of candidates last time was pathetic for a school looking to be a perennial top 25 team. Two, Pecorra and Hewitt just got canned.

You can count on it! We could have John Wooden, Hank Iba, and Dean Smith on our coaching staff, and there would still be some disagreement as to whether it's the right staff.
And, let's face it, there are few of us (if any) who believe the University will hit a home run. It's my natural tendency to think this as a Mets/Jets/Redmen fan.

As per Zagsblog, Lavin expected to extend and Lavin says CO and Jordan has pretty good chance of returning.

You can't pay attention to anything he says. It's all blather. He said Jordan and Obekpa weren't coming back. Then he realized that wouldn't help his case for an extension, so he reversed field. Then he became altogether unintelligible.

The board will be united if either Lavin or the next coach are successful.
But next year is going to be rough regardless of who is cosching. Absent some hail Mary on the recruiting front, we're going to struggle next season. And probably 2017 as well.

Him and his agent have been telling reporters they expect an extension soon for 2 years now.

... (with absolutely no inside knowledge whatsoever) my gut tells me that Lavin will be re-upped which IMO would be a mistake.

IMO the longterm prospects for StJohns men's basketball are better with Miller, or Hurley, or Hurley if either of the 3 are available. I believe that we have seen the best that Lavin is capable of delivering which results in terms of recruiting have declined since the Harrison class and lacks the ability sustain results in the competitive Big East.

You don't win in the big leagues div 1 without NBA caliber players...Cluess would be like a CYO coach at this level.. We would be basement dwellers...The BC of the ACC

What players on Nova are NBA players?

NONE and that's why they are going home courtesy of a bubble team!!

Yea I'd rather lose as a 9 seed.
You're right
Plus is there any real benefit to winning 30 games a year, finishing in first placr in the BE, and beating St. J's 2 or 3 times per season?

Don't understand your point! Has nothing to do with the discussion. The point is the more NBA caliber talent the better the chance to win. NC state was a bubble team and has a couple NBA types and beat a 1 seed with none. I think it's much worse to lose as a 1 seed this early than losing as a 9 seed without your best defender and shot blocker. Nobody remembers the regular season it's about the dance
Agree post season is most important but real fans are fans of every game their team plays. Would you rather walk out of the Garden after beating Duke, Nova, the Cuse during the regular season or after losing to them?

Sure!!
But it was just as good walking out of the Carrier Dome after beating Syracuse before they lost McCullough in front of 25,000 stunned Orange fans.
But carry on.

Carry on?
Can't come up with your own material?

I remember a guy named Jim Calhoun who was unintelligible in his first few years at UCONN.
Then he hired a British speech specialist (reference -The Kings Speech) and the rest is history.
You want unintelligible? We have an icon in the Hall of Fame that defined it with a New Yawk accent.
Feather Duster, Big Fella ( used often because he couldn't remember names), Fuggedaboutit!!!

It's beyond scary that this is what some of you truly believe.

Ha Ha!!!
No. In fact I ran out of plagiarized Dr. Fun sarcasm and now am stooping to your voluminous archive of witticisms. ;)
I am now out of your stuff as "But carry on" was all I could find.
Thanks for your contribution and I wish you much success in your future endeavors on Johnny Jungle.

On Friday's Daily News Show (SNY) prior to the game one guest said that if the Johnnies lose to the Aztecs by 30 then Bobby Hurley better get directions to Queens. Obviousy referring to the recent blowouts to Nova and the Friars.

On the Villinova rivals board they have a thread about this. Most responds favor parting w Lavin. They feel a good SJBB would be good for the BE. They sound like most of us saying we should go after Hurley?

They should worry about their own coach failing to get to a sweet 16 year after year with a really good team. Cuts like a knife.

Hu
Ignore anything being tossed about re extension until "real" decision makers reveal their intentions. Just folly to read into anything at this point.

Paultz-
Stop being so logical. If we could not bitch and moan we might have to do something productive.

On Friday after the game Sheed wouldn't comment about coming back, Saturday Sheed said he would come back if Lavin was back! Obekpa was unknown until he spoke to Harrison, What in the world does it have to do with Lavin?
