Next Coach?

My brother in law had mentioned to me today that he was listening to Gottlieb say that Lavin may not want to return to SJU! Interesting!

I think Lavin resigning is a distinct possibility.

In fact, if he wins in the first round and plays Duke tough, he will likely walk away. He would essentially preserve his chance at landing another job and not have to suffer through the rebuilding mess he has created.

I could see him walking away from a quality of life stand point. He gets his brains beat in daily. So will his replacement. So did all of his predecessors.

Only at SJU can you get knocked by fans, AAU coaches, high school coaches, and even beat writers based on personal bias.

The guy looks defeated. Congratulations guys.

There is something wrong with the water down in Florida.
Brains beat in? He called this a no pressure job. Not a worry in the world.
Oh and yeah Redmen.com and Jungle have defeated Lavin. You're better than this. Makes me think your just doing your best Baldi imitation.

Direct quote from Keady earlier this year when things weren't going so well. He didn't mention St. John's directly, but the implication couldn't have been more clear.
And, yes, there is something wrong with the water in Florida...it's awful.

Fun where are you with that no pressure quote from Lavin????

All these coaches are egomaniacs and can easily ignore or let roll off their backs criticism especially from such insignificant sources that you cited. Try being a lawyer where you get it from everyone you come in contact with, your clients, bosses, opposing counsel and judges. I am sure when Lavin goes to cash his hefty paycheck he is all worried about Desco and Logens criticisms.

I am a lawyer. I feel for anyone who has to go through what Lavin is going through. They are still human and the man looks defeated.

I dont know about you, but dealing with dumb-as-nails clients is part of my day job. When I sit down to watch a basketball game I'd like to know my head coach has a head on his shoulders.

I am sure Lav is more upset on the tax hit he takes when he cashes his $165,000 check each month.
I would be!
As for our fans, let's just say you can take some fans out of Brooklyn but you can't take Brooklyn out of the fan.

Need someone else for your punchlines?

Seems like there are a lot of lawyers on this site no wonder we are all always arguing and at each others throats!

Lol. Turn on the tap and light a match. The water will combust.

Frustrated lawyers with a bit of anger. What's worse; to be one of their clients or coach of their favorite college basketball team?

I would say client

Guys can we all put this thread to bed for a day or two? I'm not thrilled with Lavin either and have expressed my opinion that I'd like to go in another direction after the season, but for crying out loud we're playing in the tournament tomorrow. We haven't won an NCAA tournament game since before my Bar Mitzvah, so can we all just focus on the task at hand and cheer on our seniors who deserve our support? After the season is officially over we can all tear each other apart and discuss our head coaching situation ad nauseam. But for now let's focus on the game.

Here is a proud St. John's Law grad in front of his laptop while on redmen.com. ;)

Just curious but if you feel this way why would you read posts in this thread at this time?

Love his feistiness on the sidelines
A freakin SUNY school is in the NCAA and giving WVU all can handle, sign me up!!
Absolutely incredible

Not me. Yes, he's done a good job there. But he looks like he has some anger issues! :eek:hmy:

Anger or feistiness?
I wish our staff would exude that much energy on the sideline
He gets a lot more out of his players than our staff does

Anger. I don't mind feistiness. That doesn't always come out. But he's wound way too tight for my liking. He looks like he's about to bust an artery!

Having said that, I would have liked to see his team win today.

We'll agree to disagree
He will be a very successful coach at a big time school very soon
His star is rising; Lavin's is fading
Hurley would be a marked improvement over what we have
If Hurley can do what he did this year, imagine what he would do with real talent

Can he get real talent though? That's the $1m question.

That same anger I've seen from

John Calipari
Coach K
Bobby Knight
Jim Calhoun

Should I keep going?

If you like country club coaches thats fine and totally your prerogative. IMO college coaches need a level of fire.
