Next Coach?

Interesting to hear you guys criticize Gottlieb. I have no opinion of him either way. But at one point during the same interview this morning, Evan Roberts said that St. John's would never get back to the Elite Eight, as he, Roberts, remembered them doing under Jarvis. Gottlieb actually challenged Roberts and asked him why he would say that. He went on to say that St. John's could certainly get back into the Elite Eight.
Evan should stick to all things Mets, Jets, and Nets.

Losers bracket.

He got thrown out of ND for stealing his roomate's credit card and computer. Or something along those lines.

I heard part of that interview too. I didn't like that Evan's memory only extends to 1999. I thought that was pretty pathetic. But Roberts did stand up for SJU to some extent, and said we can be a team that is competitive most years. But that expectations cant be ridiculous.

Did not know that about Gottlieb. Sounds like a real low-life.

Did he play for Jarvis?

Exactly. The guy literally knows more about professional wrestling than he does about college hoops. Pretty sad.

My brother in law had mentioned to me today that he was listening to Gottlieb say that Lavin may not want to return to SJU! Interesting!

I think Lavin resigning is a distinct possibility.

In fact, if he wins in the first round and plays Duke tough, he will likely walk away. He would essentially preserve his chance at landing another job and not have to suffer through the rebuilding mess he has created.

absolute nonsense

It was with Joe and Evan again. J & E kept on saying St. Oohns can never return to its past glory and Gottlieb said "Why Not". It was a very annoying interview on many levels.Go to FAN.com and listen to the St. JOHNS portion. Gottlieb was more pro St. JOHNs and its future than 2 guys who root for and "like" St. Johns but know nothing!

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin on contract status: "“There's never been any acrimony or any sense that it's an issue." #sjubb

Obviously a non answer unless he was asked specifically if there has been any acrimony concerning his contract status or if he has any sense that it is an issue.

I could see him walking away from a quality of life stand point. He gets his brains beat in daily. So will his replacement. So did all of his predecessors.

Only at SJU can you get knocked by fans, AAU coaches, high school coaches, and even beat writers based on personal bias.

The guy looks defeated. Congratulations guys.

Queens Chronicle Article: "Is Lavin’s job in jeopardy?"

There's been quite a few Lav must go news articles in the last week; even more than usual. The quote below by the Big East Commissioner doesn't help matters.

"The latest postseason fiasco for the Red Storm certainly did not please Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman. “I am supposed to be neutral, of course, but I have to admit that I am not happy with St. John’s,” she told me last Friday after the annual Big East conference about academia and athletics that was held in Midtown Manhattan."

Keep these articles coming, the more the better. Maybe to push Lavin out.

Yeah, and let's bring in a coach from a mid-major and begin a five year rebuilding program!

Tony with or without Lavin we are rebuilding anyhow, so what's the difference? The seniors are gone, CO is 99% gone, you think Jordan will want to stay playing with freshmen? I'd be shocked.

A hell of a job to be the youngest team in year 6 with Lavin, what freaking joke.

We won't do much with Lavin as coach. So why not keep looking? Archie Miller, and the 2 Hurley brothers seem like 3 good candidates.

Where is Obekpa 99% gone too? He's going to be a senior and just screwed his team and made himself undraftable, at least this season. He's gonna sit out a year to transfer? Which NBA team is gonna draft an undersized big who's only skill is shot Blocking, who ended the season for a drug suspension? Obekpa is coming back and if he's not, I don't know where he's going?

Does SJU want him back is the question

We are probably the only team message board going into the tournament this week with so much negativity. Not exactly an honor, but we don't want to ruin our eight-year streak of making it to the sweet 16. Oh wait, no, we rarely ever even make it to the tournament. In fact, Lavin is in the midst of leading us to our most successful season since 1998-1999. But he doesn't wear a tie and he only recruits in nice vacation spots...and those adjectives....surely one will do, right? The nerve of him to eat within walking distance of his apartment too.

All these coaches are egomaniacs and can easily ignore or let roll off their backs criticism especially from such insignificant sources that you cited. Try being a lawyer where you get it from everyone you come in contact with, your clients, bosses, opposing counsel and judges. I am sure when Lavin goes to cash his hefty paycheck he is all worried about Desco and Logens criticisms.

I am a lawyer. I feel for anyone who has to go through what Lavin is going through. They are still human and the man looks defeated.

Exactly. I have stayed clear of the "Lavin Wars" for the most part, but find Marillac's contention over the top, which is not surprising. Let's just play the game & leave the hyperbole home on both sides.

There is something wrong with the water down in Florida.
Brains beat in? He called this a no pressure job. Not a worry in the world.
Oh and yeah Redmen.com and Jungle have defeated Lavin. You're better than this. Makes me think your just doing your best Baldi imitation.

Direct quote from Keady earlier this year when things weren't going so well. He didn't mention St. John's directly, but the implication couldn't have been more clear.
And, yes, there is something wrong with the water in Florida...it's awful.
