Next Coach?

I think the article was a hit piece. Reported Lavin taking SJU twice in 6 years, Hmmmm, 2 in 5 years.
I hope the game plays out to show this guy as a charlatan

See my post just before yours.

Amazes me that on the eve of a big game for us, we are still talking about how Lavin should go. Can't you guys give it a rest until at least after our last game?

I didnt write the article Tony. Just posted it.
And I've said this before, but I dont know about you but im capable of multiple emotions.
Fully looking forward to the game tomorrow night, but also hoping and wishing we get a new coach shortly after that.

Understood. And believe me, I'm capable of multiple emotions too. How else can I maintain being an SJU fan? ;)

But in all seriousness, I think it's inappropriate to continue to post that Lavin should be fired just before our first NCAA game in a while. I liken it to politics. There are times when politicians put their political differences aside for the common good. We should be doing that now. Then, when we are out, which I hope won't be until many days from now, you can all resume the "Lavin must go" posts.

Lavin-watch: Why win or lose, Steve Lavin should be a goner at St. John's

http://fansided.com/2015/03/19/lavin-watch-win-lose-steve-lavin-goner-st-johns/

This is truly a hit piece.

Andrew Garda writes:

It says something when a guy like the New York Post’s Mike Vaccaro essentially says that St. John’s keeping Lavin is admitting they just want to be the underdog. Vaccaro makes it sound like keeping the coach who has helped St. John’s to the NCAA’s twice in 6 years – and whose tenure has been broken up by cancer and the death of his father – is accepting mediocrity.

If that opinion is shared by the university, then Lavin is toast with anything short of a National Title. Especially after this past year.

It's an op-ed, not a news story.
Read with that in mind, it is clear that his position is to let go of coach Lavin. Which is a legitimate opinion.

Realistically, win a national title or else he is gone?

I would say NBA championship or Olympic gold medals.

The author is pointing out how ridiculous that position is (Vaccaro's). "If that is the opinion of the University..." then only a a NC will do.
He's highlighting the absurdity of Mike V's article.

Amazes me that on the eve of a big game for us, we are still talking about how Lavin should go. Can't you guys give it a rest until at least after our last game?

Just as you are amazed about the timing of the piece, I am amazed that on March 19th, we have not a hint of what our roster will look like next year.

And before we rest upon our motto ("Just let it play out"), it is fair to acknowledge that there are very few unsigned talents remaining.

I think people would be more willing to defer discussions of our coach if there was some signs of hope for next year. As of now, with the exception of Sampson, recruiting has been a huge disappointment for the past two years. Win or lose on Friday, Lavin needs to own that.

Blasphemy!

How dare you question Steve Lavin's recruiting ability. It is above reproach!!

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that was sarcasm.

:p

I agree Tony!
This may be our final ride in the dance for a while while we rebuild next year, Lavin or no Lavin.
Put your differences aside redmen brothers, wear your St. John's gear and cheer them on for a win in 24 hours. B) ,

Queens Chronicle Article: "Is Lavin’s job in jeopardy?"

There's been quite a few Lav must go news articles in the last week; even more than usual. The quote below by the Big East Commissioner doesn't help matters.

"The latest postseason fiasco for the Red Storm certainly did not please Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman. “I am supposed to be neutral, of course, but I have to admit that I am not happy with St. John’s,” she told me last Friday after the annual Big East conference about academia and athletics that was held in Midtown Manhattan."

She's right. She is supposed to be neutral. Any concerns she has with ANY member of the Big East should be taken up privately with the school. Very unprofessional, IMHO.

Gavitt would not have made that bold a public statement.

And about the article, how can the Reporter say D'Angelo Harrison was suspended for reasons unknown when it has been clearly stated by the Coach, Harrison and multiple news outlets for the past two years why he was suspended. Even his grandmother has been quoted on the reasons for his suspension.

I hope there was more to her statement than what was edited and printed by a neighborhood paper's imitation of hoops Weiss. She obviously was rooting for St. John's to advance over Providence which will not go over well in Providence either. Classic case of foot in mouth response.

Last 2 recruiting years so far, with less then a month to go in the 2nd recruiting year:
Last year got Thomas and Adonis, both who aren't playing this year.
This year got 3 SGs and 1 of them is a 4star. Not big man yet, you'd think that with what nova did this year that we'd focus on big men, but whatever.

Keep these articles coming, the more the better. Maybe to push Lavin out.
