Next Coach?

This topic shouldn't only be about issues with Lavin and the team's progression.

It should be WHO would replace Lavin. Who, realistically speaking, can come in here and give us a better team the next few years?

If it's anyone but a big name it won't work. I'm talking Smart, Mullin, etc. big.

You can't have a mid-major coach, who has been recruiting mid-major talent, come in and fill up a vacant roster. It would be a total disaster and we'd risk becoming irrelevant for another 5-10 years.

Within months of going to Arizona Sean Miller had a top 10 class. Bill self did the same thing going from Tulsa to Illinois.

You get a good coach/recruiter. The guy who has the smarts and fire to be the next great coAch. I don't care if he's coaching HS ball in Alaska right now. The big name guys available have all failed before.

Sorry but not a good example.

Xavier isn't mid-major. He was coming off 4 straight NCAA appearances and a year removed from the Elite 8. I'd want some other realistic candidates like that.

Edit: and Tulsa had an Elite 8 season directly before Self's hire.

The most telling comment, by D'Lo: “We didn’t have a lot of energy today. You saw that. I don’t know why.”

From a group of kids who we all though were hungry, in a huge game like that, I simply do not understand how lack of energy could be a factor.

They had no energy because of their ages. They are seniors. They were tired, This program will only win with freshmen and sophs.

Well I posted this just before the CO announcement. Don't feel as strongly about it anymore. I'd need to know the full situation first.

So you were flying that long 1.5 hours to support the team but now because we "may win" the first game we will lose to Duke because Obekpa is not playing. Oh, and fire Lavin.
Well, just a reminder - Chris Obekpa had 0 blocks, 4 points and fouled out of the Duke game at MSG.
Now that he is a pot head do you think his numbers would have been better?

He also had 8 rebounds in that game and did a very nice job of denying Okafor the ball.

Nothing JDR, Amar or C Jones couldn't give us. Why don't we just quote the stats of all our top guys in their worst games, and say we can do without them and that we would be better off playing all walkons, right 72?
 
While I was having breakfast this morning, I was reading the sports section of the newspaper. In the college section of the "Transactions" column, it listed Pecora's firing, the Syracuse information regarding Boeheim and their A.D. and several other items, including the retirement of the men's basketball coach at St. John's.

Upon further review, I realized that the coach in question is Jim Smith, the men's basketball coach at St. John's in Minnesota. :(
 
Amazes me that on the eve of a big game for us, we are still talking about how Lavin should go. Can't you guys give it a rest until at least after our last game?
 
I think the article was a hit piece. Reported Lavin taking SJU twice in 6 years, Hmmmm, 2 in 5 years.
I hope the game plays out to show this guy as a charlatan
